Ruku 99

1 Surahs8 Versesركوع 99
5:101
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
O you
ٱلَّذِينَ
who
ءَامَنُواۡ
believe
لَا
(Do) not
تَسۡــَٔلُواۡ
ask
عَنۡ
about
أَشۡيَآءَ
things
إِن
if
تُبۡدَ
made clear
لَكُمۡ
to you
تَسُؤۡكُمۡ
it may distress you
وَإِن
and if
تَسۡــَٔلُواۡ
you ask
عَنۡهَا
about it
حِينَ
when
يُنَزَّلُ
is being revealed
ٱلۡقُرۡءَانُ
the Quran
تُبۡدَ
it would be made clear
لَكُمۡ
to you
عَفَا
has (been) pardoned
ٱللَّهُ
(by) Allah
عَنۡهَا‌ۗ
[about] it
وَٱللَّهُ
and Allah
غَفُورٌ
(is) Oft-Forgiving
حَلِيمٌ
All-Forbearing
١٠١
O you who have believed, do not ask about things which, if they are shown to you, will distress you. But if you ask about them while the Qur’ān is being revealed, they will be shown to you. Allāh has pardoned it [i.e., that which is past]; and Allāh is Forgiving and Forbearing.
5:102
قَدۡ
Indeed
سَأَلَهَا
asked them
قَوۡمٌ
a people
مِّن
from
قَبۡلِكُمۡ
before you
ثُمَّ
then
أَصۡبَحُواۡ
they became
بِهَا
thereby
كَـٰفِرِينَ
disbelievers
١٠٢
A people asked such [questions] before you; then they became thereby disbelievers.1
5:103
مَا
Not
جَعَلَ
has (been) made
ٱللَّهُ
(by) Allah
مِنۢ
of
بَحِيرَةٍ
a Bahirah
وَلَا
and not
سَآئِبَةٍ
a Saibah
وَلَا
and not
وَصِيلَةٍ
a Wasilah
وَلَا
and not
حَامٍ‌ۙ
a Hami
وَلَـٰكِنَّ
[And] but
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
كَفَرُواۡ
disbelieved
يَفۡتَرُونَ
they invent
عَلَى
against
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
ٱلۡكَذِبَ‌ۖ
the lie
وَأَكۡثَرُهُمۡ
and most of them
لَا
(do) not
يَعۡقِلُونَ
use reason
١٠٣
Allāh has not appointed [such innovations as] baḥīrah or sā’ibah or waṣīlah or ḥām.1 But those who disbelieve invent falsehood about Allāh, and most of them do not reason.
5:104
وَإِذَا
And when
قِيلَ
it is said
لَهُمۡ
to them
تَعَالَوۡاۡ
Come
إِلَىٰ
to
مَآ
what
أَنزَلَ
has (been) revealed
ٱللَّهُ
(by) Allah
وَإِلَى
and to
ٱلرَّسُولِ
the Messenger
قَالُواۡ
they said
حَسۡبُنَا
Sufficient for us
مَا
(is) what
وَجَدۡنَا
we found
عَلَيۡهِ
upon it
ءَابَآءَنَآ‌ۚ
our forefathers
أَوَلَوۡ
Even though
كَانَ
(that)
ءَابَآؤُهُمۡ
their forefathers
لَا
(were) not
يَعۡلَمُونَ
knowing
شَيۡــًٔا
anything
وَلَا
and not
يَهۡتَدُونَ
they (were) guided
١٠٤
And when it is said to them, "Come to what Allāh has revealed and to the Messenger," they say, "Sufficient for us is that upon which we found our fathers." Even though their fathers knew nothing, nor were they guided?
5:105
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
O you
ٱلَّذِينَ
who
ءَامَنُواۡ
believe
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
Upon you
أَنفُسَكُمۡ‌ۖ
(is to guard) yourselves
لَا
Not
يَضُرُّكُم
will harm you
مَّن
(those) who
ضَلَّ
(have gone) astray
إِذَا
when
ٱهۡتَدَيۡتُمۡ‌ۚ
you have been guided
إِلَى
To
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
مَرۡجِعُكُمۡ
(is) your return
جَمِيعًا
all
فَيُنَبِّئُكُم
then He will inform you
بِمَا
of what
كُنتُمۡ
you used to
تَعۡمَلُونَ
do
١٠٥
O you who have believed, upon you is [responsibility for] yourselves. Those who have gone astray will not harm you when you have been guided. To Allāh is your return all together; then He will inform you of what you used to do.
5:106
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
O you
ٱلَّذِينَ
who
ءَامَنُواۡ
believe
شَهَـٰدَةُ
(Take) testimony
بَيۡنِكُمۡ
among you
إِذَا
when
حَضَرَ
approaches
أَحَدَكُمُ
one of you
ٱلۡمَوۡتُ
[the] death
حِينَ
(at the) time (of making)
ٱلۡوَصِيَّةِ
[the] a will
ٱثۡنَانِ
two
ذَوَا
men
عَدۡلٍ
just
مِّنكُمۡ
among you
أَوۡ
or
ءَاخَرَانِ
two others
مِنۡ
from
غَيۡرِكُمۡ
other than you
إِنۡ
if
أَنتُمۡ
you
ضَرَبۡتُمۡ
(are) travel(ing)
فِى
in
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
the earth
فَأَصَـٰبَتۡكُم
then befalls you
مُّصِيبَةُ
calamity
ٱلۡمَوۡتِ‌ۚ
(of) [the] death
تَحۡبِسُونَهُمَا
Detain both of them
مِنۢ
from
بَعۡدِ
after
ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ
the prayer
فَيُقۡسِمَانِ
and let them both swear
بِٱللَّهِ
by Allah
إِنِ
if
ٱرۡتَبۡتُمۡ
you doubt
لَا
Not
نَشۡتَرِى
we will exchange
بِهِۦ
it for
ثَمَنًا
a price
وَلَوۡ
even if
كَانَ
he is
ذَا
(of)
قُرۡبَىٰ‌ۙ
a near relative
وَلَا
and not
نَكۡتُمُ
we will conceal
شَهَـٰدَةَ
testimony
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
إِنَّآ
Indeed, we
إِذًا
then
لَّمِنَ
(will) surely (be) of
ٱلۡأَثِمِينَ
the sinners
١٠٦
O you who have believed, testimony [should be taken] among you when death approaches one of you at the time of bequest - [that of] two just men from among you or two others from outside if you are traveling through the land and the disaster of death should strike you. Detain them after the prayer and let them both swear by Allāh if you doubt [their testimony, saying], "We will not exchange it [i.e., our oath] for a price [i.e., worldly gain], even if he should be a near relative, and we will not withhold the testimony of [i.e., ordained by] Allāh. Indeed, we would then be of the sinful."
5:107
فَإِنۡ
Then if
عُثِرَ
it is discovered
عَلَىٰٓ
(on)
أَنَّهُمَا
that the two
ٱسۡتَحَقَّآ
(were) guilty
إِثۡمًا
(of) sin
فَـَٔـاخَرَانِ
then (let) two others
يَقُومَانِ
stand
مَقَامَهُمَا
(in) their place
مِنَ
from
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
ٱسۡتَحَقَّ
have a lawful right
عَلَيۡهِمُ
over them
ٱلۡأَوۡلَيَـٰنِ
the former two
فَيُقۡسِمَانِ
and let them both swear
بِٱللَّهِ
by Allah
لَشَهَـٰدَتُنَآ
Surely our testimony
أَحَقُّ
(is) truer
مِن
than
شَهَـٰدَتِهِمَا
testimony of the other two
وَمَا
and not
ٱعۡتَدَيۡنَآ
we have transgressed
إِنَّآ
Indeed, we
إِذًا
then
لَّمِنَ
(will be) of
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
the wrongdoers
١٠٧
But if it is found that those two were guilty of sin [i.e., perjury], let two others stand in their place [who are] foremost [in claim] from those who have a lawful right. And let them swear by Allāh, "Our testimony is truer than their testimony, and we have not transgressed. Indeed, we would then be of the wrongdoers."
5:108
ذٰلِكَ
That
أَدۡنَىٰٓ
(is) closer
أَن
that
يَأۡتُواۡ
they will give
بِٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ
the testimony
عَلَىٰ
in
وَجۡهِهَآ
its (true) form
أَوۡ
or
يَخَافُوٓاۡ
they would fear
أَن
that
تُرَدَّ
will be refuted
أَيۡمَـٰنُۢ
their oaths
بَعۡدَ
after
أَيۡمَـٰنِهِمۡ‌ۗ
their (others) oaths
وَٱتَّقُواۡ
And fear
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
وَٱسۡمَعُواۡ‌ۗ
and listen
وَٱللَّهُ
and Allah
لَا
(does) not
يَهۡدِى
guide
ٱلۡقَوۡمَ
the people
ٱلۡفَـٰسِقِينَ
the defiantly disobedient
١٠٨
That is more likely that they will give testimony according to its [true] objective, or [at least] they would fear that [other] oaths might be taken after their oaths. And fear Allāh and listen [i.e., obey Him]; and Allāh does not guide the defiantly disobedient people.
