ٱلۡحَآقَّةُ
(is) the Inevitable Reality

69:3
وَمَآ
And what
أَدۡرَٮٰكَ
will make you know
مَا
what
ٱلۡحَآقَّةُ
(is) the Inevitable Reality
٣
And what can make you know what is the Inevitable Reality?
69:4
كَذَّبَتۡ
Denied
ثَمُودُ
Thamud
وَعَادُۢ
and Aad
بِٱلۡقَارِعَةِ
the Striking Calamity
٤

So as for
ثَمُودُ

فَأُهۡلِكُواۡ
they were destroyed
بِٱلطَّاغِيَةِ
by the overpowering (blast)
٥

سَخَّرَهَا
Which He imposed
عَلَيۡهِمۡ
upon them
سَبۡعَ
(for) seven
لَيَالٍ
nights
وَثَمَـٰنِيَةَ
and eight
أَيَّامٍ
days
حُسُومًا
(in) succession
فَتَرَى
so you would see
ٱلۡقَوۡمَ
the people
فِيهَا
therein
صَرۡعَىٰ
fallen
كَأَنَّهُمۡ
as if they were
أَعۡجَازُ
trunks
نَخۡلٍ
(of) date-palms
خَاوِيَةٍ
hollow
٧
Which He [i.e., Allāh] imposed upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees.
69:8
فَهَلۡ
Then do
تَرَىٰ
you see
لَهُم
of them
مِّنۢ
any
بَاقِيَةٍ
remains
٨
Then do you see of them any remains?
69:9
وَجَآءَ
And came
فِرۡعَوۡنُ
Firaun
وَمَن
and (those)
قَبۡلَهُۥ
before him
وَٱلۡمُؤۡتَفِكَـٰتُ
and the overturned cities
بِٱلۡخَاطِئَةِ
with sin
٩

فَعَصَوۡاۡ
And they disobeyed

(of) their Lord
فَأَخَذَهُمۡ
so He seized them
أَخۡذَةً
(with) a seizure
رَّابِيَةً
exceeding

إِنَّا
Indeed, We
لَمَّا
when
طَغَا
overflowed
ٱلۡمَآءُ
the water
حَمَلۡنَـٰكُمۡ
We carried you
فِى
in
ٱلۡجَارِيَةِ
the sailing (ship)
١١
Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried you [i.e., your ancestors] in the sailing ship1
69:12
لِنَجۡعَلَهَا
That We might make it
لَكُمۡ
for you
تَذۡكِرَةً
a reminder
وَتَعِيَهَآ
and would be conscious of it
أُذُنٌ
an ear
وٰعِيَةٌ
conscious
١٢
That We might make it for you a reminder and [that] a conscious ear would be conscious of it.
69:13
فَإِذَا
Then when
نُفِخَ
is blown
فِى
in
ٱلصُّورِ
the trumpet
نَفۡخَةٌ
a blast
وٰحِدَةٌ
single
١٣
Then when the Horn is blown with one blast
69:14
وَحُمِلَتِ
And are lifted
ٱلۡأَرۡضُ
the earth
وَٱلۡجِبَالُ
and the mountains
فَدُكَّتَا
and crushed
دَكَّةً
(with) a crushing
وٰحِدَةً
single
١٤
And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow [i.e., stroke] -
69:15
فَيَوۡمَئِذٍ
Then (on) that Day
وَقَعَتِ
will occur
ٱلۡوَاقِعَةُ
the Occurrence
١٥
Then on that Day, the Occurrence [i.e., Resurrection] will occur,
69:16
وَٱنشَقَّتِ
And will split
ٱلسَّمَآءُ
the heaven
فَهِىَ
so it
يَوۡمَئِذٍ
(is on) that Day
وَاهِيَةٌ
frail
١٦
And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm.1
69:17
وَٱلۡمَلَكُ
And the Angels
عَلَىٰٓ
(will be) on
أَرۡجَآئِهَا‌ۚ
its edges
وَيَحۡمِلُ
and will bear
عَرۡشَ
(the) Throne
رَبِّكَ
(of) your Lord
فَوۡقَهُمۡ
above them
يَوۡمَئِذٍ
that Day
ثَمَـٰنِيَةٌ
eight

69:18
يَوۡمَئِذٍ
That Day
تُعۡرَضُونَ
you will be exhibited
لَا
not
تَخۡفَىٰ
will be hidden
مِنكُمۡ
among you
خَافِيَةٌ
any secret
١٨
That Day, you will be exhibited [for judgement]; not hidden among you is anything concealed.1
69:19
فَأَمَّا
Then as for
مَنۡ
(him) who
أُوتِىَ
is given
كِتَـٰبَهُۥ
his record
بِيَمِينِهِۦ
in his right hand
فَيَقُولُ
will say
هَآؤُمُ
Here
ٱقۡرَءُواۡ
read
كِتَـٰبِيَهۡ
my record
١٩
So as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will say, "Here, read my record!
69:20
إِنِّى
Indeed, I
ظَنَنتُ
was certain
أَنِّى
that I
مُلَـٰقٍ
(will) meet
حِسَابِيَهۡ
my account
٢٠
Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account."
69:21
فَهُوَ
So he
فِى
(will be) in
عِيشَةٍ
a life
رَّاضِيَةٍ
pleasant
٢١
So he will be in a pleasant life -
69:22
فِى
In
جَنَّةٍ
a Garden
عَالِيَةٍ
elevated
٢٢
In an elevated garden,
69:23
قُطُوفُهَا
Its clusters of fruits
دَانِيَةٌ
hanging near
٢٣
Its [fruit] to be picked hanging near.
69:24
كُلُواۡ
Eat
وَٱشۡرَبُواۡ
and drink
هَنِيٓـــَٔۢا
(in) satisfaction
بِمَآ
for what
أَسۡلَفۡتُمۡ
you sent before you
فِى
in
ٱلۡأَيَّامِ
the days
ٱلۡخَالِيَةِ
past
٢٤
[They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth1 in the days past."
69:25
وَأَمَّا
But as for
مَنۡ
(him) who
أُوتِىَ
is given
كِتَـٰبَهُۥ
his record
بِشِمَالِهِۦ
in his left hand
فَيَقُولُ
will say
يَـٰلَيۡتَنِى
O! I wish
لَمۡ
not
أُوتَ
I had been given
كِتَـٰبِيَهۡ
my record
٢٥
But as for he who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, "Oh, I wish I had not been given my record
69:26
وَلَمۡ
And not
أَدۡرِ
I had known
مَا
what
حِسَابِيَهۡ
(is) my account
٢٦
And had not known what is my account.
69:27
يَـٰلَيۡتَهَا
O! I wish it
كَانَتِ
had been
ٱلۡقَاضِيَةَ
the end
٢٧
I wish it [i.e., my death] had been the decisive one.1
69:28
مَآ
Not
أَغۡنَىٰ
has availed
عَنِّى
me
مَالِيَهۡۜ
my wealth
٢٨
My wealth has not availed me.
69:29
هَلَكَ
Is gone
عَنِّى
from me
سُلۡطَـٰنِيَهۡ
my authority
٢٩
Gone from me is my authority."1
69:30
خُذُوهُ
Seize him
فَغُلُّوهُ
and shackle him
٣٠
[Allāh will say], "Seize him and shackle him.
69:31
ثُمَّ
Then
ٱلۡجَحِيمَ
(into) the Hellfire
صَلُّوهُ
burn him
٣١
Then into Hellfire drive him.
69:32
ثُمَّ
Then
فِى
into
سِلۡسِلَةٍ
a chain
ذَرۡعُهَا
its length
سَبۡعُونَ
(is) seventy
ذِرَاعًا
cubits
فَٱسۡلُكُوهُ
insert him
٣٢
Then into a chain whose length is seventy cubits insert him."
69:33
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed, he
كَانَ
was
لَا
not
يُؤۡمِنُ
believing
بِٱللَّهِ
in Allah
ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
the Most Great
٣٣
Indeed, he did not used to believe in Allāh, the Most Great,
69:34
وَلَا
And (did) not
يَحُضُّ
feel the urge
عَلَىٰ
on
طَعَامِ
(the) feeding
ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ
(of) the poor
٣٤
Nor did he encourage the feeding of the poor.
69:35
فَلَيۡسَ
So not
لَهُ
for him
ٱلۡيَوۡمَ
today
هَـٰهُنَا
here
حَمِيمٌ
any devoted friend
٣٥
So there is not for him here this Day any devoted friend
69:36
وَلَا
And not
طَعَامٌ
any food
إِلَّا
except
مِنۡ
from
غِسۡلِينٍ
(the) discharge of wounds
٣٦
Nor any food except from the discharge of wounds;
69:37
لَّا
Not
يَأۡكُلُهُۥٓ
will eat it
إِلَّا
except
ٱلۡخَـٰطِــُٔونَ
the sinners
٣٧
None will eat it except the sinners.
