1 Surahs8 Versesركوع 357
31:12
وَلَقَدۡ
And verily
ءَاتَيۡنَا
We gave
لُقۡمَـٰنَ
Luqman
ٱلۡحِكۡمَةَ
the wisdom
أَنِ
that
ٱشۡكُرۡ
Be grateful
لِلَّهِ‌ۚ
to Allah
وَمَن
And whoever
يَشۡكُرۡ
(is) grateful
فَإِنَّمَا
then only
يَشۡكُرُ
he is grateful
لِنَفۡسِهِۦ‌ۖ
for himself
وَمَن
And whoever
كَفَرَ
(is) ungrateful
فَإِنَّ
then indeed
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
غَنِىٌّ
(is) Free of need
حَمِيدٌ
Praiseworthy
١٢
And We had certainly given Luqmān wisdom [and said], "Be grateful to Allāh." And whoever is grateful is grateful for [the benefit of] himself. And whoever denies [His favor] - then indeed, Allāh is Free of need and Praiseworthy.
31:13
وَإِذۡ
And when
قَالَ
said
لُقۡمَـٰنُ
Luqman
لِٱبۡنِهِۦ
to his son
وَهُوَ
while he
يَعِظُهُۥ
(was) instructing him
يَـٰبُنَىَّ
O my son
لَا
(Do) not
تُشۡرِكۡ
associate partners
بِٱللَّهِ‌ۖ
with Allah
إِنَّ
Indeed
ٱلشِّرۡكَ
associating partners
لَظُلۡمٌ
(is) surely an injustice
عَظِيمٌ
great
١٣
And [mention, O Muḥammad], when Luqmān said to his son while he was instructing him, "O my son, do not associate [anything] with Allāh. Indeed, association [with Him] is great injustice."
31:14
وَوَصَّيۡنَا
And We have enjoined
ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ
(upon) man
بِوٰلِدَيۡهِ
for his parents
حَمَلَتۡهُ
carried him
أُمُّهُۥ
his mother
وَهۡنًا
(in) weakness
عَلَىٰ
upon
وَهۡنٍ
weakness
وَفِصَـٰلُهُۥ
and his weaning
فِى
(is) in
عَامَيۡنِ
two years
أَنِ
that
ٱشۡكُرۡ
Be grateful
لِى
to Me
وَلِوٰلِدَيۡكَ
and to your parents
إِلَىَّ
towards Me
ٱلۡمَصِيرُ
(is) the destination
١٤
And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.
31:15
وَإِن
But if
جَـٰهَدَاكَ
they strive against you
عَلَىٰٓ
on
أَن
that
تُشۡرِكَ
you associate partners
بِى
with Me
مَا
what
لَيۡسَ
not
لَكَ
you have
بِهِۦ
of it
عِلۡمٌ
any knowledge
فَلَا
then (do) not
تُطِعۡهُمَا‌ۖ
obey both of them
وَصَاحِبۡهُمَا
But accompany them
فِى
in
ٱلدُّنۡيَا
the world
مَعۡرُوفًا‌ۖ
(with) kindness
وَٱتَّبِعۡ
and follow
سَبِيلَ
(the) path
مَنۡ
(of him) who
أَنَابَ
turns
إِلَىَّ‌ۚ
to Me
ثُمَّ
Then
إِلَىَّ
towards Me
مَرۡجِعُكُمۡ
(is) your return
فَأُنَبِّئُكُم
then I will inform you
بِمَا
of what
كُنتُمۡ
you used (to)
تَعۡمَلُونَ
do
١٥
But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge,1 do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Me [in repentance]. Then to Me will be your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do.
31:16
يَـٰبُنَىَّ
O my son
إِنَّهَآ
Indeed it
إِن
if
تَكُ
it be
مِثۡقَالَ
(the) weight
حَبَّةٍ
(of) a grain
مِّنۡ
of
خَرۡدَلٍ
a mustard seed
فَتَكُن
and it be
فِى
in
صَخۡرَةٍ
a rock
أَوۡ
or
فِى
in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوٰتِ
the heavens
أَوۡ
or
فِى
in
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
the earth
يَأۡتِ
Allah will bring it forth
بِهَا
Allah will bring it forth
ٱللَّهُ‌ۚ
Allah will bring it forth
إِنَّ
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
لَطِيفٌ
(is) All-Subtle
خَبِيرٌ
All-Aware
١٦
[And Luqmān said], "O my son, indeed if it [i.e., a wrong] should be the weight of a mustard seed and should be within a rock or [anywhere] in the heavens or in the earth, Allāh will bring it forth. Indeed, Allāh is Subtle1 and Aware.
31:17
يَـٰبُنَىَّ
O my son
أَقِمِ
Establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
the prayer
وَأۡمُرۡ
and enjoin
بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِ
[with] the right
وَٱنۡهَ
and forbid
عَنِ
from
ٱلۡمُنكَرِ
the wrong
وَٱصۡبِرۡ
and be patient
عَلَىٰ
over
مَآ
what
أَصَابَكَ‌ۖ
befalls you
إِنَّ
Indeed
ذٰلِكَ
that
مِنۡ
(is) of
عَزۡمِ
the matters requiring determination
ٱلۡأُمُورِ
the matters requiring determination
١٧
O my son, establish prayer, enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and be patient over what befalls you. Indeed, [all] that is of the matters [requiring] resolve.1
31:18
وَلَا
And (do) not
تُصَعِّرۡ
turn
خَدَّكَ
your cheek
لِلنَّاسِ
from men
وَلَا
and (do) not
تَمۡشِ
walk
فِى
in
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
the earth
مَرَحًا‌ۖ
exultantly
إِنَّ
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
لَا
(does) not
يُحِبُّ
like
كُلَّ
every
مُخۡتَالٍ
self-conceited
فَخُورٍ
boaster
١٨
And do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward people1 and do not walk through the earth exultantly. Indeed, Allāh does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful.
31:19
وَٱقۡصِدۡ
And be moderate
فِى
in
مَشۡيِكَ
your pace
وَٱغۡضُضۡ
and lower
مِن
[of]
صَوۡتِكَ‌ۚ
your voice
إِنَّ
Indeed
أَنكَرَ
(the) harshest
ٱلۡأَصۡوٰتِ
(of all) sounds
لَصَوۡتُ
(is) surely (the) voice
ٱلۡحَمِيرِ
(of) the donkeys
١٩
And be moderate in your pace and lower your voice; indeed, the most disagreeable of sounds is the voice of donkeys."
