11:69
وَلَقَدۡ
And certainly
جَآءَتۡ
came
رُسُلُنَآ
Our messengers
إِبۡرٰهِيمَ
(to) Ibrahim
بِٱلۡبُشۡرَىٰ
with glad tidings
قَالُواۡ
they said
سَلَـٰمًا‌ۖ
Peace
قَالَ
He said
سَلَـٰمٌ‌ۖ
Peace
فَمَا
and not he delayed
لَبِثَ
and not he delayed
أَن
to
جَآءَ
bring
بِعِجۡلٍ
a calf
حَنِيذٍ
roasted
٦٩
And certainly did Our messengers [i.e., angels] come to Abraham with good tidings; they said, "Peace." He said, "Peace," and did not delay in bringing [them] a roasted calf.
11:70
فَلَمَّا
But when
رَءَآ
he saw
أَيۡدِيَهُمۡ
their hands
لَا
not
تَصِلُ
reaching
إِلَيۡهِ
to it
نَكِرَهُمۡ
he felt unfamiliar of them
وَأَوۡجَسَ
and felt apprehension
مِنۡهُمۡ
from them
خِيفَةً‌ۚ
[a fear]
قَالُواۡ
They said
لَا
(Do) not
تَخَفۡ
fear
إِنَّآ
Indeed, we
أُرۡسِلۡنَآ
[we] have been sent
إِلَىٰ
to
قَوۡمِ
(the) people
لُوطٍ
(of) Lut
٧٠
But when he saw their hands not reaching for it, he distrusted them and felt from them apprehension.1 They said, "Fear not. We have been sent to the people of Lot."
11:71
وَٱمۡرَأَتُهُۥ
And his wife
قَآئِمَةٌ
(was) standing
فَضَحِكَتۡ
and she laughed
فَبَشَّرۡنَـٰهَا
Then We gave her glad tidings
بِإِسۡحَـٰقَ
of Isaac
وَمِن
and after
وَرَآءِ
and after
إِسۡحَـٰقَ
Isaac
يَعۡقُوبَ
(of) Yaqub
٧١
And his wife was standing, and she smiled.1 Then We gave her good tidings of Isaac and after Isaac, Jacob.
11:72
قَالَتۡ
She said
يَـٰوَيۡلَتَىٰٓ
Woe to me
ءَأَلِدُ
Shall I bear a child
وَأَنَاۡ
while I am
عَجُوزٌ
an old woman
وَهَـٰذَا
and this
بَعۡلِى
my husband
شَيۡخًا‌ۖ
(is) an old man
إِنَّ
Indeed
هَـٰذَا
this
لَشَىۡءٌ
(is) surely a thing
عَجِيبٌ
amazing
٧٢
She said, "Woe to me!1 Shall I give birth while I am an old woman and this, my husband, is an old man? Indeed, this is an amazing thing!"
11:73
قَالُوٓاۡ
They said
أَتَعۡجَبِينَ
Are you amazed
مِنۡ
at
أَمۡرِ
(the) decree of Allah
ٱللَّهِ‌ۖ
(the) decree of Allah
رَحۡمَتُ
The Mercy of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
The Mercy of Allah
وَبَرَكَـٰتُهُۥ
and His blessings
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
(be) upon you
أَهۡلَ
people
ٱلۡبَيۡتِ‌ۚ
(of) the house
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed, He
حَمِيدٌ
(is) All-Praiseworthy
مَّجِيدٌ
All-Glorious
٧٣
They said, "Are you amazed at the decree of Allāh? May the mercy of Allāh and His blessings be upon you, people of the house. Indeed, He is Praiseworthy and Honorable."
11:74
فَلَمَّا
And when
ذَهَبَ
(had) gone away
عَنۡ
from
إِبۡرٰهِيمَ
Ibrahim
ٱلرَّوۡعُ
the fright
وَجَآءَتۡهُ
and had reached him
ٱلۡبُشۡرَىٰ
the glad tidings
يُجَـٰدِلُنَا
he argued with Us
فِى
concerning
قَوۡمِ
the people
لُوطٍ
of Lut
٧٤
And when the fright had left Abraham and the good tidings had reached him, he began to argue [i.e., plead] with Us1 concerning the people of Lot.
11:75
إِنَّ
Indeed
إِبۡرٰهِيمَ
Ibrahim
لَحَلِيمٌ
(was) certainly forbearing
أَوّٰهٌ
imploring
مُّنِيبٌ
and oft-returning
٧٥
Indeed, Abraham was forbearing, grieving1 and [frequently] returning [to Allāh].
11:76
يَـٰٓإِبۡرٰهِيمُ
O Ibrahim
أَعۡرِضۡ
Turn away
عَنۡ
from
هَـٰذَآ‌ۖ
this
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed, it
قَدۡ
certainly
جَآءَ
has come
أَمۡرُ
(the) Command
رَبِّكَ‌ۖ
(of) your Lord
وَإِنَّهُمۡ
and indeed, [they]
ءَاتِيهِمۡ
(will) come (for) them
عَذَابٌ
a punishment
غَيۡرُ
(which) cannot
مَرۡدُودٍ
(be) repelled
٧٦
[The angels said], "O Abraham, give up this [plea]. Indeed, the command of your Lord has come, and indeed, there will reach them a punishment that cannot be repelled."
11:77
وَلَمَّا
And when
جَآءَتۡ
came
رُسُلُنَا
Our messengers
لُوطًا
(to) Lut
سِىٓءَ
he was distressed
بِهِمۡ
for them
وَضَاقَ
and felt straitened
بِهِمۡ
for them
ذَرۡعًا
(and) uneasy
وَقَالَ
and said
هَـٰذَا
This
يَوۡمٌ
(is) a day
عَصِيبٌ
distressful
٧٧
And when Our messengers, [the angels], came to Lot, he was anguished for them and felt for them great discomfort1 and said, "This is a trying day."
11:78
وَجَآءَهُۥ
And came (to) him
قَوۡمُهُۥ
his people
يُهۡرَعُونَ
rushing
إِلَيۡهِ
to him
وَمِن
and before
قَبۡلُ
and before
كَانُواۡ
they (had) been
يَعۡمَلُونَ
doing
ٱلسَّيِّـَٔـاتِ‌ۚ
the evil deeds
قَالَ
He said
يَـٰقَوۡمِ
O my people
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ
These
بَنَاتِى
(are) my daughters
هُنَّ
they
أَطۡهَرُ
(are) purer
لَكُمۡ‌ۖ
for you
فَٱتَّقُواۡ
So fear
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
وَلَا
and (do) not
تُخۡزُونِ
disgrace me
فِى
concerning
ضَيۡفِىٓ‌ۖ
my guests
أَلَيۡسَ
Is (there) not
مِنكُمۡ
among you
رَجُلٌ
a man
رَّشِيدٌ
right-minded
٧٨
And his people came hastening to him, and before [this] they had been doing evil deeds.1 He said, "O my people, these are my daughters;2 they are purer for you. So fear Allāh and do not disgrace me concerning my guests. Is there not among you a man of reason?"
11:79
قَالُواۡ
They said
لَقَدۡ
Verily
عَلِمۡتَ
you know
مَا
(that) not
لَنَا
we have
فِى
concerning
بَنَاتِكَ
your daughters
مِنۡ
any
حَقٍّ
right
وَإِنَّكَ
And indeed, you
لَتَعۡلَمُ
surely know
مَا
what
نُرِيدُ
we want
٧٩
They said, "You have already known that we have not concerning your daughters [i.e., women] any claim [i.e., desire], and indeed, you know what we want."
11:80
قَالَ
He said
لَوۡ
If
أَنَّ
that
لِى
I had
بِكُمۡ
over you
قُوَّةً
power
أَوۡ
or
ءَاوِىٓ
I could take refuge
إِلَىٰ
in
رُكۡنٍ
a support
شَدِيدٍ
strong
٨٠
He said, "If only I had against you some power or could take refuge in a strong support."
11:81
قَالُواۡ
They said
يَـٰلُوطُ
O Lut
إِنَّا
Indeed, we
رُسُلُ
(are) messengers
رَبِّكَ
(of) your Lord
لَن
never
يَصِلُوٓاۡ
they will reach
إِلَيۡكَ‌ۖ
you
فَأَسۡرِ
So travel
بِأَهۡلِكَ
with your family
بِقِطۡعٍ
in a part
مِّنَ
of
ٱلَّيۡلِ
the night
وَلَا
and (let) not
يَلۡتَفِتۡ
look back
مِنكُمۡ
anyone of you
أَحَدٌ
anyone of you
إِلَّا
except
ٱمۡرَأَتَكَ‌ۖ
your wife
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed, it
مُصِيبُهَا
will strike her
مَآ
what
أَصَابَهُمۡ‌ۚ
will strike them
إِنَّ
Indeed
مَوۡعِدَهُمُ
their appointed time
ٱلصُّبۡحُ‌ۚ
(is) morning
أَلَيۡسَ
Is not
ٱلصُّبۡحُ
the morning
بِقَرِيبٍ
near
٨١
They [the angels] said, "O Lot, indeed we are messengers of your Lord; [therefore], they will never reach you. So set out with your family during a portion of the night1 and let not any among you look back - except your wife; indeed, she will be struck by that which strikes them. Indeed, their appointment is [for] the morning. Is not the morning near?"
11:82
فَلَمَّا
So when
جَآءَ
came
أَمۡرُنَا
Our Command
جَعَلۡنَا
We made
عَـٰلِيَهَا
its upside
سَافِلَهَا
its downside
وَأَمۡطَرۡنَا
and We rained
عَلَيۡهَا
upon them
حِجَارَةً
stones
مِّن
of
سِجِّيلٍ
baked clay
مَّنضُودٍ
(in) layers
٨٢
So when Our command came, We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of layered hard clay, [which were]
11:83
مُّسَوَّمَةً
Marked
عِندَ
from
رَبِّكَ‌ۖ
your Lord
وَمَا
And not
هِىَ
it
مِنَ
(is) from
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
the wrongdoers
بِبَعِيدٍ
far
٨٣
Marked from your Lord. And it [i.e., Allāh's punishment] is not from the wrongdoers [very] far.
