1 Surahs5 Versesركوع 161
9:38
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
O you who believe
ٱلَّذِينَ
O you who believe
ءَامَنُواۡ
O you who believe
مَا
What
لَكُمۡ
(is the matter) with you
إِذَا
when
قِيلَ
it is said
لَكُمُ
to you
ٱنفِرُواۡ
go forth
فِى
in
سَبِيلِ
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
ٱثَّاقَلۡتُمۡ
you cling heavily
إِلَى
to
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ‌ۚ
the earth
أَرَضِيتُم
Are you pleased
بِٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ
with the life
ٱلدُّنۡيَا
(of) the world
مِنَ
(rather) than
ٱلۡأَخِرَةِ‌ۚ
the Hereafter
فَمَا
But what
مَتَـٰعُ
(is the) enjoyment
ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ
(of) the life
ٱلدُّنۡيَا
(of) the world
فِى
in (comparison to)
ٱلۡأَخِرَةِ
the hereafter
إِلَّا
except
قَلِيلٌ
a little
٣٨
O you who have believed, what is [the matter] with you that, when you are told to go forth in the cause of Allāh, you adhere heavily to the earth?1 Are you satisfied with the life of this world rather than the Hereafter? But what is the enjoyment of worldly life compared to the Hereafter except a [very] little.
9:39
إِلَّا
If not
تَنفِرُواۡ
you go forth
يُعَذِّبۡكُمۡ
He will punish you
عَذَابًا
(with) a painful punishment
أَلِيمًا
(with) a painful punishment
وَيَسۡتَبۡدِلۡ
and will replace you
قَوۡمًا
(with) a people
غَيۡرَكُمۡ
other than you
وَلَا
and not
تَضُرُّوهُ
you can harm Him
شَيۡــًٔا‌ۗ
(in) anything
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
عَلَىٰ
(is) on
كُلِّ
every
شَىۡءٍ
thing
قَدِيرٌ
All-Powerful
٣٩
If you do not go forth, He will punish you with a painful punishment and will replace you with another people, and you will not harm Him at all. And Allāh is over all things competent.
9:40
إِلَّا
If not
تَنصُرُوهُ
you help him
فَقَدۡ
certainly
نَصَرَهُ
Allah helped him
ٱللَّهُ
Allah helped him
إِذۡ
when
أَخۡرَجَهُ
drove him out
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
كَفَرُواۡ
disbelieved
ثَانِىَ
the second
ٱثۡنَيۡنِ
(of) the two
إِذۡ
when
هُمَا
they both
فِى
(were) in
ٱلۡغَارِ
the cave
إِذۡ
when
يَقُولُ
he said
لِصَـٰحِبِهِۦ
to his companion
لَا
(Do) not
تَحۡزَنۡ
grieve
إِنَّ
indeed
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
مَعَنَا‌ۖ
(is) with us
فَأَنزَلَ
Then Allah sent down
ٱللَّهُ
Then Allah sent down
سَكِينَتَهُۥ
His tranquility
عَلَيۡهِ
upon him
وَأَيَّدَهُۥ
and supported him
بِجُنُودٍ
with forces
لَّمۡ
which you did not see
تَرَوۡهَا
which you did not see
وَجَعَلَ
and made
كَلِمَةَ
(the) word
ٱلَّذِينَ
(of) those who
كَفَرُواۡ
disbelieved
ٱلسُّفۡلَىٰ‌ۗ
the lowest
وَكَلِمَةُ
while (the) Word
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
هِىَ
it (is)
ٱلۡعُلۡيَا‌ۗ
the highest
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
عَزِيزٌ
(is) All-Mighty
حَكِيمٌ
All-Wise
٤٠
If you do not aid him [i.e., the Prophet (ﷺ)] - Allāh has already aided him when those who disbelieved had driven him out [of Makkah] as one of two,1 when they were in the cave and he [i.e., Muḥammad (ﷺ)] said to his companion, "Do not grieve; indeed Allāh is with us." And Allāh sent down His tranquility upon him and supported him with soldiers [i.e., angels] you did not see and made the word2 of those who disbelieved the lowest,3 while the word of Allāh4 - that is the highest. And Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.
9:41
ٱنفِرُواۡ
Go forth
خِفَافًا
light
وَثِقَالاً
or heavy
وَجَـٰهِدُواۡ
and strive
بِأَمۡوٰلِكُمۡ
with your wealth
وَأَنفُسِكُمۡ
and your lives
فِى
in
سَبِيلِ
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ
(of) Allah
ذٰلِكُمۡ
That
خَيۡرٌ
(is) better
لَّكُمۡ
for you
إِن
if
كُنتُمۡ
you
تَعۡلَمُونَ
know
٤١
Go forth, whether light or heavy,1 and strive with your wealth and your lives in the cause of Allāh. That is better for you, if you only knew.
9:42
لَوۡ
If
كَانَ
it had been
عَرَضًا
a gain
قَرِيبًا
near
وَسَفَرًا
and a journey
قَاصِدًا
easy
لَّٱتَّبَعُوكَ
surely they (would) have followed you
وَلَـٰكِنۢ
but
بَعُدَتۡ
was long
عَلَيۡهِمُ
for them
ٱلشُّقَّةُ‌ۚ
the distance
وَسَيَحۡلِفُونَ
And they will swear
بِٱللَّهِ
by Allah
لَوِ
If
ٱسۡتَطَعۡنَا
we were able
لَخَرَجۡنَا
certainly we (would) have come forth
مَعَكُمۡ
with you
يُهۡلِكُونَ
They destroy
أَنفُسَهُمۡ
their own selves
وَٱللَّهُ
and Allah
يَعۡلَمُ
knows
إِنَّهُمۡ
(that) indeed, they
لَكَـٰذِبُونَ
(are) surely liars
٤٢
Had it been a near [i.e., easy] gain and a moderate trip, they [i.e., the hypocrites] would have followed you, but distant to them was the journey. And they will swear by Allāh,1 "If we were able, we would have gone forth with you," destroying themselves [through false oaths], and Allāh knows that indeed they are liars.
