1 Surahs6 Versesركوع 156
9:1
بَرَا ٓءَةٌ
Freedom from obligations
from
Allah
وَرَسُولِهِۦٓ
and His Messenger
إِلَى
to
those (with) whom
عَـٰ هَد تُّم
you made a covenant
from
the polytheists
[This is a declaration of] disassociation, from Allāh and His Messenger, to those with whom you had made a treaty among the polytheists.1
9:2
فَسِيحُواۡ
So move about
فِى
in
the land
أَرۡبَعَةَ
(during) four
أَشۡهُرٍ
months
but know
أَنّ َكُمۡ
that you
غَيۡرُ
(can) not
مُعۡجِزِى
escape
Allah
وَأَنّ َ
and that
Allah
مُخۡزِى
(is) the One Who (will) disgrace
the disbelievers
So travel freely, [O disbelievers], throughout the land [during] four months but know that you cannot cause failure to Allāh and that Allāh will disgrace the disbelievers.
9:3
وَأَذٰ نٌ
And an announcement
from Allah
from Allah
وَرَسُولِهِۦٓ
and His Messenger
إِلَى
to
the people
يَوۡمَ
(on the) day
(of) the greater Pilgrimage
(of) the greater Pilgrimage
أَنّ َ
that
Allah
بَرِى ٓءٌ
(is) free from obligations
[of]
(to) the polytheists
وَرَسُولُهُۥ ۚ
and (so is) His Messenger
فَإِن
So if
you repent
فَهُوَ
then, it is
خَيۡرٌ
best
for you
وَإِن
But if
you turn away
فَٱ عۡلَمُوٓ اۡ
then know
أَنّ َكُمۡ
that you
غَيۡرُ
(can) not
مُعۡجِزِى
escape
Allah
وَبَشِّرِ
And give glad tidings
(to) those who
كَفَرُواۡ
disbelieve
بِعَذَابٍ
of a punishment
أَلِي مٍ
٣painful
And [it is] an announcement from Allāh and His Messenger to the people on the day of the greater pilgrimage1 that Allāh is disassociated from the disbelievers, and [so is] His Messenger. So if you repent, that is best for you; but if you turn away - then know that you will not cause failure to Allāh.2 And give tidings to those who disbelieve of a painful punishment.
9:4
إِلَّا
Except
those (with) whom
عَـٰ هَد تُّم
you have a covenant
among
the polytheists
ثُمّ َ
then
لَمۡ
not
يَنق ُصُوكُمۡ
they have failed you
شَيۡــًٔا
(in any) thing
and not
يُظَـٰ هِرُواۡ
they have supported
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
against you
أَحَدًا
anyone
so fulfil
إِلَيۡهِمۡ
to them
عَهۡدَهُمۡ
their treaty
إِلَىٰ
till
مُدَّتِهِمۡۚ
their term
إِنّ َ
Indeed
Allah
يُحِبُّ
loves
the righteous
Excepted are those with whom you made a treaty among the polytheists and then they have not been deficient toward you in anything or supported anyone against you; so complete for them their treaty until their term [has ended]. Indeed, Allāh loves the righteous [who fear Him].
9:5
فَإِذَا
Then when
have passed
the sacred months
the sacred months
فَٱ قۡ تُلُواۡ
then kill
the polytheists
حَيۡثُ
wherever
وَجَد تُّمُوهُمۡ
you find them
وَخُذُوهُمۡ
and seize them
وَٱ حۡصُرُوهُمۡ
and besiege them
وَٱ قۡ عُدُواۡ
and sit (in wait)
لَهُمۡ
for them
كُلَّ
(at) every
مَرۡصَدٍۚ
place of ambush
But if
they repent
وَأَقَامُواۡ
and establish
the prayer
وَءَاتَوُاۡ
and give
the zakah
فَخَلُّواۡ
then leave
سَبِيلَهُمۡۚ
their way
إِنّ َ
Indeed
Allah
غَفُورٌ
(is) Oft-Forgiving
Most Merciful
And when the inviolable months1 have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakāh, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.
9:6
وَإِنۡ
And if
أَحَدٌ
anyone
of
the polytheists
seek your protection
فَأَجِرۡهُ
then grant him protection
حَتَّىٰ
until
يَسۡمَعَ
he hears
كَلَـٰ مَ
(the) Words of Allah
(the) Words of Allah
ثُمّ َ
Then
أَبۡ لِغۡهُ
escort him
مَأۡمَنَهُۥ ۚ
(to) his place of safety
ذٰ لِكَ
That
بِأَنّ َهُمۡ
(is) because they
قَوۡمٌ
(are) a people
(who) do not know
يَعۡلَمُو نَ
٦(who) do not know
And if any one of the polytheists seeks your protection, then grant him protection so that he may hear the words of Allāh [i.e., the Qur’ān]. Then deliver him to his place of safety. That is because they are a people who do not know.
