(is) the One Who
خَلَقَكُم
created you
from
dust
then
مِن
from
a semen-drop
then
مِنۡ
from
عَلَقَةٍ
a clinging substance
then
يُخۡرِجُكُمۡ
He brings you out
طِفۡلاً
(as) a child
then
لِتَبۡ لُغُوٓ اۡ
lets you reach
أَشُدَّكُمۡ
your maturity
ثُمّ َ
then
لِتَكُونُواۡ
lets you become
شُيُوخًاۚ
old
and among you
(is he) who
dies
مِن
before
before
وَلِتَبۡ لُغُوٓ اۡ
and lets you reach
أَجَلاً
a term
specified
and that you may
تَعۡقِلُو نَ
٦٧use reason
It is He who created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then from a clinging clot; then He brings you out as a child; then [He develops you] that you reach your [time of] maturity, then [further] that you become elders. And among you is he who is taken in death before [that], so that you reach a specified term;1 and perhaps you will use reason.
40:68
هُوَ
He
(is) the One Who
يُحۡىِۦ
gives life
وَيُمِيتُۖ
and causes death
فَإِذَا
And when
قَضَىٰٓ
He decrees
أَمۡرًا
a matter
then only
يَقُولُ
He says
لَهُۥ
to it
كُن
Be
and it is
He it is who gives life and causes death; and when He decrees a matter, He but says to it, "Be," and it is.
40:69
أَلَمۡ
Do not

you see

[to]
those who
يُجَـٰ دِلُونَ
dispute
فِىٓ
concerning
ءَايَـٰ تِ
(the) Signs
(of) Allah
أَنّ َىٰ
How
يُصۡرَفُو نَ
٦٩they are turned away
Do you not consider those who dispute concerning the signs of Allāh - how are they averted?
40:70
ٱلَّذِينَ
Those who
كَذَّبُواۡ
deny
بِٱ لۡكِتَـٰ بِ
the Book
وَبِمَآ
and with what
أَرۡسَلۡنَا
We sent
بِهِۦ
with it
رُسُلَنَاۖ
Our Messengers
فَسَوۡفَ
but soon
يَعۡلَمُو نَ
٧٠they will know
Those who deny the Book [i.e., the Qur’ān] and that with which We sent Our messengers - they are going to know,
40:71
إِذِ
When
the iron collars
فِىٓ
(will be) around
أَعۡنَـٰ قِهِمۡ
their necks
وَٱ ل سَّلَـٰ سِلُ
and the chains
يُسۡحَبُو نَ
٧١they will be dragged
When the shackles are around their necks and the chains; they will be dragged
40:72
فِى
In
the boiling water
ثُمّ َ
then
فِى
in
the Fire
يُسۡجَرُو نَ
٧٢they will be burned
In boiling water; then in the Fire they will be filled [with flame].
40:73
ثُمّ َ
Then
قِيلَ
it will be said
لَهُمۡ
to them
أَيۡنَ
Where
مَا
(is) that which
كُنت ُمۡ
you used to
تُشۡرِكُو نَ
٧٣associate
Then it will be said to them, "Where is that which you used to associate [with Him in worship]
40:74
مِن
Other than
Other than
Allah
قَالُواۡ
They will say
ضَلُّواۡ
They have departed
عَنّ َا
from us
بَل

anything
Thus
يُضِلُّ
Allah lets go astray
Allah lets go astray
the disbelievers
Other than Allāh?" They will say, "They have departed from us; rather, we did not used to invoke previously anything." Thus does Allāh put astray the disbelievers.
40:75
ذٰ لِكُم
That was
because
كُنت ُمۡ
you used to
تَفۡرَحُونَ
rejoice
فِى
in
the earth
بِغَيۡرِ
without
right
وَبِمَا
and because
كُنت ُمۡ
you used to
تَمۡرَحُو نَ
٧٥be insolent
[The angels will say], "That was because you used to exult upon the earth without right and you used to behave insolently.
40:76
ٱدۡ خُلُوٓ اۡ
Enter
أَبۡ وٰ بَ
(the) gates
جَهَنّ َمَ
(of) Hell
خَـٰ لِدِينَ
(to) abide forever
فِيهَاۖ
in it
فَبِئۡسَ
and wretched is
مَثۡوَى
(the) abode
(of) the arrogant
Enter the gates of Hell to abide eternally therein, and wretched is the residence of the arrogant."
40:77
فَٱ صۡبِرۡ
So be patient
إِنّ َ
indeed
وَعۡدَ
(the) Promise
(of) Allah
حَۚقٌّ
(is) true
And whether
نُرِيَنّ َكَ
We show you
بَعۡضَ
some
(of) what
نَعِدُهُمۡ
We have promised them
أَوۡ
or
نَتَوَفَّيَنّ َكَ
We cause you to die
فَإِلَيۡنَا
then to Us
يُرۡجَعُو نَ
٧٧they will be returned
So be patient, [O Muḥammad]; indeed, the promise of Allāh is truth. And whether We show you some of what We have promised them or We take you in death, it is to Us they will be returned.
40:78
وَلَقَدۡ
And certainly
أَرۡسَلۡنَا
We have sent
رُسُلاً
Messengers
before you
before you
مِنۡهُم
Among them
(are) who
We have related
عَلَيۡكَ
to you
وَمِنۡهُم
and among them
(are) who
not
نَقۡ صُصۡ
We have related
عَلَيۡكَۗ
to you
وَمَا
And not
كَانَ
is
لِرَسُولٍ
for any Messenger
أَن
that
he brings
بِـَٔـايَةٍ
a Sign
إِلَّا
except
بِإِذۡنِ
by (the) permission
(of) Allah
فَإِذَا
So when
جَا ٓءَ
comes
أَمۡرُ
(the) Command
(of) Allah
قُضِىَ
it will be decided
بِٱ لۡحَقِّ
in truth
وَخَسِرَ
and will lose
هُنَالِكَ
there
the falsifiers
And We have already sent messengers before you. Among them are those [whose stories] We have related to you, and among them are those [whose stories] We have not related to you. And it was not for any messenger to bring a sign [or verse] except by permission of Allāh. So when the command of Allāh comes, it will be concluded [i.e., judged] in truth, and the falsifiers will thereupon lose [all].
40:79
ٱللَّهُ
Allah
(is) the One Who
جَعَلَ
made
لَكُمُ
for you
the cattle
لِتَرۡكَبُواۡ
that you may ride
مِنۡهَا
some of them
وَمِنۡهَا
and some of them
تَأۡكُلُو نَ
٧٩you eat
It is Allāh who made for you the grazing animals upon which you ride, and some of them you eat.
40:80
وَلَكُمۡ
And for you
فِيهَا
in them
مَنَـٰ فِعُ
(are) benefits
وَلِتَبۡ لُغُواۡ
and that you may reach
عَلَيۡهَا
through them
حَاجَةً
a need
(that is) in
صُدُورِكُمۡ
your breasts
وَعَلَيۡهَا
and upon them
وَعَلَى
and upon
the ships
تُحۡمَلُو نَ
٨٠you are carried
And for you therein are [other] benefits and that you may realize upon them a need which is in your breasts;1 and upon them and upon ships you are carried.
40:81
وَيُرِيكُمۡ
And He shows you
ءَايَـٰ تِهِۦ
His Signs
فَأَىَّ
Then which
ءَايَـٰ تِ
(of the) Signs
(of) Allah
تُنك ِرُو نَ
٨١will you deny
And He shows you His signs. So which of the signs of Allāh do you deny?
40:82
أَفَلَمۡ
Do they not
يَسِيرُواۡ
travel
فِى
through
the land
فَيَنظ ُرُواۡ
and see
كَيۡفَ
how
كَانَ
was
عَـٰ قِبَةُ
(the) end
(of) those who
مِن
(were) before them
(were) before them
كَانُوٓ اۡ
They were
أَكۡثَرَ
more numerous
مِنۡهُمۡ
than them
وَأَشَدَّ
and mightier
قُوَّةً
(in) strength
and impressions
in
the land
فَمَآ
but not
أَغۡنَىٰ
availed
عَنۡهُم
them
what
كَانُواۡ
they used to
يَكۡسِبُو نَ
٨٢earn
Have they not traveled through the land and observed how was the end of those before them? They were more numerous than themselves and greater in strength and in impression on the land, but they were not availed by what they used to earn.
40:83
فَلَمّ َا
Then when
جَا ٓءَتۡهُمۡ
came to them
رُسُلُهُم
their Messengers
with clear proofs
فَرِحُواۡ
they rejoiced
بِمَا
in what
عِند َهُم
they had
of
the knowledge
وَحَاقَ
and enveloped
بِهِم
them
what
كَانُواۡ
they used to
بِهِۦ
[at it]
يَسۡتَهۡزِءُو نَ
٨٣mock
And when their messengers came to them with clear proofs, they [merely] rejoiced in what they had of knowledge, but they were enveloped by what they used to ridicule.
40:84
فَلَمّ َا
So when
رَأَوۡاۡ
they saw
بَأۡسَنَا
Our punishment
قَالُوٓ اۡ
they said
ءَامَنّ َا
We believe
بِٱ للَّهِ
in Allah
وَحۡدَهُۥ
Alone
وَكَفَرۡنَا
and we disbelieve
بِمَا
in what
كُنّ َا
we used to
بِهِۦ
with Him
مُشۡرِكِي نَ
٨٤associate
And when they saw Our punishment, they said, "We believe in Allāh alone and disbelieve in that which we used to associate with Him."
40:85
فَلَمۡ
But did not
يَكُ
But did not
يَنف َعُهُمۡ
benefit them
إِيمَـٰ نُهُمۡ
their faith
لَمّ َا
when
رَأَوۡاۡ
they saw
بَأۡسَنَاۖ
Our punishment
سُنّ َتَ
(Such is the) Way
(of) Allah
which
قَدۡ
(has) indeed
خَلَتۡ
preceded
فِى
among
عِبَادِهِۖۦ
His slaves
وَخَسِرَ
And are lost
هُنَالِكَ
there
the disbelievers
But never did their faith benefit them once they saw Our punishment. [It is] the established way of Allāh which has preceded among His servants. And the disbelievers thereupon lost [all].
