بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

24:1
سُورَةٌ
A Surah
أَنزَلۡنَـٰهَا
We (have) sent it down
وَفَرَضۡنَـٰهَا
and We (have) made it obligatory
وَأَنزَلۡنَا
and We (have) revealed
فِيهَآ
therein
ءَايَـٰتِۭ
Verses
بَيِّنَـٰتٍ
clear
لَّعَلَّكُمۡ
so that you may
تَذَكَّرُونَ
take heed
١
[This is] a sūrah which We have sent down and made [that within it] obligatory and revealed therein verses of clear evidence that you might remember.
24:2
ٱلزَّانِيَةُ
The fornicatress
وَٱلزَّانِى
and the fornicator
فَٱجۡلِدُواۡ
[then] flog
كُلَّ
each
وٰحِدٍ
one
مِّنۡهُمَا
of them
مِاۡئَةَ
(with) hundred
جَلۡدَةٍ‌ۖ
lash(es)
وَلَا
And (let) not
تَأۡخُذۡكُم
withhold you
بِهِمَا
pity for them
رَأۡفَةٌ
pity for them
فِى
concerning
دِينِ
(the) religion of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
(the) religion of Allah
إِن
if
كُنتُمۡ
you
تُؤۡمِنُونَ
believe
بِٱللَّهِ
in Allah
وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ
and the Day
ٱلۡأَخِرِ‌ۖ
the Last
وَلۡيَشۡهَدۡ
And let witness
عَذَابَهُمَا
their punishment
طَآئِفَةٌ
a group
مِّنَ
of
ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ
the believers
٢
The [unmarried] woman or [unmarried] man found guilty of sexual intercourse1 - lash each one of them with a hundred lashes,2 and do not be taken by pity for them in the religion [i.e., law] of Allāh,3 if you should believe in Allāh and the Last Day. And let a group of the believers witness their punishment.
24:3
ٱلزَّانِى
The fornicator
لَا
(will) not
يَنكِحُ
marry
إِلَّا
except
زَانِيَةً
a fornicatress
أَوۡ
or
مُشۡرِكَةً
a polytheist woman
وَٱلزَّانِيَةُ
and the fornicatress
لَا
(will) not
يَنكِحُهَآ
marry her
إِلَّا
except
زَانٍ
a fornicator
أَوۡ
or
مُشۡرِكٌ‌ۚ
a polytheist man
وَحُرِّمَ
And is forbidden
ذٰلِكَ
that
عَلَى
to
ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ
the believers
٣
The fornicator does not marry except a [female] fornicator or polytheist, and none marries her except a fornicator1 or a polytheist, and that [i.e., marriage to such persons] has been made unlawful to the believers.
24:4
وَٱلَّذِينَ
And those who
يَرۡمُونَ
accuse
ٱلۡمُحۡصَنَـٰتِ
the chaste women
ثُمَّ
then
لَمۡ
not
يَأۡتُواۡ
they bring
بِأَرۡبَعَةِ
four
شُهَدَآءَ
witnesses
فَٱجۡلِدُوهُمۡ
then flog them
ثَمَـٰنِينَ
(with) eighty
جَلۡدَةً
lashe(s)
وَلَا
and (do) not
تَقۡبَلُواۡ
accept
لَهُمۡ
their
شَهَـٰدَةً
testimony
أَبَدًا‌ۚ
ever
وَأُوۡلَـٰٓئِكَ
And those
هُمُ
they
ٱلۡفَـٰسِقُونَ
(are) the defiantly disobedient
٤
And those who accuse chaste women and then do not produce four witnesses - lash them with eighty lashes and do not accept from them testimony ever after. And those are the defiantly disobedient,
24:5
إِلَّا
Except
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
تَابُواۡ
repent
مِنۢ
after
بَعۡدِ
after
ذٰلِكَ
that
وَأَصۡلَحُواۡ
and reform
فَإِنَّ
Then indeed
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
غَفُورٌ
(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌ
Most Merciful
٥
Except for those who repent thereafter and reform, for indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.
24:6
وَٱلَّذِينَ
And those who
يَرۡمُونَ
accuse
أَزۡوٰجَهُمۡ
their spouses
وَلَمۡ
and not
يَكُن
have
لَّهُمۡ
for them
شُهَدَآءُ
witnesses
إِلَّآ
except
أَنفُسُهُمۡ
themselves
فَشَهَـٰدَةُ
then (the) testimony
أَحَدِهِمۡ
(of) one of them
أَرۡبَعُ
(is) four
شَهَـٰدٰتِۭ
testimonies
بِٱللَّهِ‌ۙ
by Allah
إِنَّهُۥ
that he
لَمِنَ
(is) surely of
ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ
the truthful
٦
And those who accuse their wives [of adultery] and have no witnesses except themselves - then the witness of one of them1 [shall be] four testimonies [swearing] by Allāh that indeed, he is of the truthful.
24:7
وَٱلۡخَـٰمِسَةُ
And the fifth
أَنَّ
that
لَعۡنَتَ
(the) curse of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
(the) curse of Allah
عَلَيۡهِ
(be) upon him
إِن
if
كَانَ
he is
مِنَ
of
ٱلۡكَـٰذِبِينَ
the liars
٧
And the fifth [oath will be] that the curse of Allāh be upon him if he should be of the liars.
24:8
وَيَدۡرَؤُاۡ
But it would prevent
عَنۡهَا
from her
ٱلۡعَذَابَ
the punishment
أَن
that
تَشۡهَدَ
she bears witness
أَرۡبَعَ
four
شَهَـٰدٰتِۭ
testimonies
بِٱللَّهِ‌ۙ
by Allah
إِنَّهُۥ
that he
لَمِنَ
(is) surely of
ٱلۡكَـٰذِبِينَ
the liars
٨
But it will prevent punishment from her if she gives four testimonies [swearing] by Allāh that indeed, he is of the liars.
24:9
وَٱلۡخَـٰمِسَةَ
And the fifth
أَنَّ
that
غَضَبَ
the wrath of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
the wrath of Allah
عَلَيۡهَآ
(be) upon her
إِن
if
كَانَ
he is
مِنَ
of
ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ
the truthful
٩
And the fifth [oath will be] that the wrath of Allāh be upon her if he was of the truthful.
24:10
وَلَوۡلَا
And if not
فَضۡلُ
(for) the Grace of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
(for) the Grace of Allah
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
upon you
وَرَحۡمَتُهُۥ
and His Mercy
وَأَنَّ
and that
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
تَوَّابٌ
(is) Oft-Returning (to Mercy)
حَكِيمٌ
All-Wise
١٠
And if not for the favor of Allāh upon you and His mercy...1 and because Allāh is Accepting of Repentance and Wise.
24:11
إِنَّ
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
جَآءُو
brought
بِٱلۡإِفۡكِ
the lie
عُصۡبَةٌ
(are) a group
مِّنكُمۡ‌ۚ
among you
لَا
(Do) not
تَحۡسَبُوهُ
think it
شَرًّا
bad
لَّكُم‌ۖ
for you
بَلۡ
nay
هُوَ
it
خَيۡرٌ
(is) good
لَّكُمۡ‌ۚ
for you
لِكُلِّ
For every
ٱمۡرِىٍٕ
person
مِّنۡهُم
among them
مَّا
(is) what
ٱكۡتَسَبَ
he earned
مِنَ
of
ٱلۡإِثۡمِ‌ۚ
the sin
وَٱلَّذِى
and the one who
تَوَلَّىٰ
took upon himself a greater share of it
كِبۡرَهُۥ
took upon himself a greater share of it
مِنۡهُمۡ
among them
لَهُۥ
for him
عَذَابٌ
(is) a punishment
عَظِيمٌ
great
١١
Indeed, those who came with falsehood1 are a group among you. Do not think it bad for you; rather, it is good for you. For every person among them is what [punishment] he has earned from the sin, and he who took upon himself the greater portion thereof2 - for him is a great punishment [i.e., Hellfire].
24:12
لَّوۡلَآ
Why not
إِذۡ
when
سَمِعۡتُمُوهُ
you heard it
ظَنَّ
think
ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ
the believing men
وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَـٰتُ
and the believing women
بِأَنفُسِهِمۡ
good of themselves
خَيۡرًا
good of themselves
وَقَالُواۡ
and say
هَـٰذَآ
This
إِفۡكٌ
(is) a lie
مُّبِينٌ
clear
١٢
Why, when you heard it, did not the believing men and believing women think good of themselves [i.e., one another] and say, "This is an obvious falsehood"?
24:13
لَّوۡلَا
Why (did) not
جَآءُو
they bring
عَلَيۡهِ
for it
بِأَرۡبَعَةِ
four
شُهَدَآءَ‌ۚ
witnesses
فَإِذۡ
Then when
لَمۡ
not
يَأۡتُواۡ
they brought
بِٱلشُّهَدَآءِ
the witnesses
فَأُوۡلَـٰٓئِكَ
then those
عِندَ
near Allah
ٱللَّهِ
near Allah
هُمُ
they
ٱلۡكَـٰذِبُونَ
(are) the liars
١٣
Why did they [who slandered] not produce for it four witnesses? And when they do not produce the witnesses, then it is they, in the sight of Allāh, who are the liars.
24:14
وَلَوۡلَا
And if not
فَضۡلُ
(for the) Grace
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
upon you
وَرَحۡمَتُهُۥ
and His Mercy
فِى
in
ٱلدُّنۡيَا
the world
وَٱلۡأَخِرَةِ
and the Hereafter
لَمَسَّكُمۡ
surely would have touched you
فِى
in
مَآ
what
أَفَضۡتُمۡ
you had rushed glibly
فِيهِ
concerning it
عَذَابٌ
a punishment
عَظِيمٌ
great
١٤
And if it had not been for the favor of Allāh upon you and His mercy in this world and the Hereafter, you would have been touched for that [lie] in which you were involved by a great punishment
24:15
إِذۡ
When
تَلَقَّوۡنَهُۥ
you received it
بِأَلۡسِنَتِكُمۡ
with your tongues
وَتَقُولُونَ
and you said
بِأَفۡوَاهِكُم
with your mouths
مَّا
what
لَيۡسَ
not
لَكُم
for you
بِهِۦ
of it
عِلۡمٌ
any knowledge
وَتَحۡسَبُونَهُۥ
and you thought it
هَيِّنًا
(was) insignificant
وَهُوَ
while it
عِندَ
(was) near Allah
ٱللَّهِ
(was) near Allah
عَظِيمٌ
great
١٥
When you received it with your tongues1 and said with your mouths that of which you had no knowledge and thought it was insignificant while it was, in the sight of Allāh, tremendous.
24:16
وَلَوۡلَآ
And why not
إِذۡ
when
سَمِعۡتُمُوهُ
you heard it
قُلۡتُم
you said
مَّا
Not
يَكُونُ
it is
لَنَآ
for us
أَن
that
نَّتَكَلَّمَ
we speak
بِهَـٰذَا
of this
سُبۡحَـٰنَكَ
Glory be to You
هَـٰذَا
This
بُهۡتَـٰنٌ
(is) a slander
عَظِيمٌ
great
١٦
And why, when you heard it, did you not say, "It is not for us to speak of this. Exalted are You, [O Allāh]; this is a great slander"?
24:17
يَعِظُكُمُ
Allah warns you
ٱللَّهُ
Allah warns you
أَن
that
تَعُودُواۡ
you return
لِمِثۡلِهِۦٓ
(to the) like of it
أَبَدًا
ever
إِن
if
كُنتُم
you are
مُّؤۡمِنِينَ
believers
١٧
Allāh warns you against returning to the likes of this [conduct], ever, if you should be believers.
24:18
وَيُبَيِّنُ
And Allah makes clear
ٱللَّهُ
And Allah makes clear
لَكُمُ
to you
ٱلۡأَيَـٰتِ‌ۚ
the Verses
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
عَلِيمٌ
(is) All-Knower
حَكِيمٌ
All-Wise
١٨
And Allāh makes clear to you the verses [i.e., His rulings], and Allāh is Knowing and Wise.
24:19
إِنَّ
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
يُحِبُّونَ
like
أَن
that
تَشِيعَ
(should) spread
ٱلۡفَـٰحِشَةُ
the immorality
فِى
among
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
ءَامَنُواۡ
believe
لَهُمۡ
for them
عَذَابٌ
(is) a punishment
أَلِيمٌ
painful
فِى
in
ٱلدُّنۡيَا
the world
وَٱلۡأَخِرَةِ‌ۚ
and the Hereafter
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
يَعۡلَمُ
knows
وَأَنتُمۡ
while you
لَا
(do) not
تَعۡلَمُونَ
know
١٩
Indeed, those who like that immorality1 should be spread [or publicized] among those who have believed will have a painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter. And Allāh knows2 and you do not know.
24:20
وَلَوۡلَا
And if not
فَضۡلُ
(for the) Grace of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
(for the) Grace of Allah
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
upon you
وَرَحۡمَتُهُۥ
and His Mercy
وَأَنَّ
And that
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
رَءُوفٌ
(is) Full of Kindness
رَّحِيمٌ
Most Merciful
٢٠
And if it had not been for the favor of Allāh upon you and His mercy...1 and because Allāh is Kind and Merciful.
24:21
۞يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
O you who believe
ٱلَّذِينَ
O you who believe
ءَامَنُواۡ
O you who believe
لَا
(Do) not
تَتَّبِعُواۡ
follow
خُطُوٰتِ
(the) footsteps
ٱلشَّيۡطَـٰنِ‌ۚ
(of) the Shaitaan
وَمَن
and whoever
يَتَّبِعۡ
follows
خُطُوٰتِ
(the) footsteps
ٱلشَّيۡطَـٰنِ
(of) the Shaitaan
فَإِنَّهُۥ
then indeed, he
يَأۡمُرُ
commands
بِٱلۡفَحۡشَآءِ
the immorality
وَٱلۡمُنكَرِ‌ۚ
and the evil
وَلَوۡلَا
And if not
فَضۡلُ
(for the) Grace of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
(for the) Grace of Allah
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
upon you
وَرَحۡمَتُهُۥ
and His Mercy
مَا
not
زَكَىٰ
(would) have been pure
مِنكُم
among you
مِّنۡ
anyone
أَحَدٍ
anyone
أَبَدًا
ever
وَلَـٰكِنَّ
but
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
يُزَكِّى
purifies
مَن
whom
يَشَآءُ‌ۗ
He wills
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
سَمِيعٌ
(is) All-Hearer
عَلِيمٌ
All-Knower
٢١
O you who have believed, do not follow the footsteps of Satan. And whoever follows the footsteps of Satan - indeed, he enjoins immorality and wrongdoing. And if not for the favor of Allāh upon you and His mercy, not one of you would have been pure, ever, but Allāh purifies whom He wills, and Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.
24:22
وَلَا
And not
يَأۡتَلِ
let swear
أُوۡلُواۡ
those of virtue
ٱلۡفَضۡلِ
those of virtue
مِنكُمۡ
among you
وَٱلسَّعَةِ
and the amplitude of means
أَن
that
يُؤۡتُوٓاۡ
they give
أُوۡلِى
(to) the near of kin
ٱلۡقُرۡبَىٰ
(to) the near of kin
وَٱلۡمَسَـٰكِينَ
and the needy
وَٱلۡمُهَـٰجِرِينَ
and the emigrants
فِى
in
سَبِيلِ
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ‌ۖ
(of) Allah
وَلۡيَعۡفُواۡ
And let them pardon
وَلۡيَصۡفَحُوٓاۡ‌ۗ
and let them overlook
أَلَا
(Do) not
تُحِبُّونَ
you like
أَن
that
يَغۡفِرَ
Allah should forgive
ٱللَّهُ
Allah should forgive
لَكُمۡ‌ۗ
you
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
غَفُورٌ
(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌ
Most Merciful
٢٢
And let not those of virtue among you and wealth swear not to give [aid] to their relatives and the needy and the emigrants for the cause of Allāh, and let them pardon and overlook. Would you not like that Allāh should forgive you? And Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.
24:23
إِنَّ
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
يَرۡمُونَ
accuse
ٱلۡمُحۡصَنَـٰتِ
the chaste women
ٱلۡغَـٰفِلَـٰتِ
the unaware women
ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَـٰتِ
(and) the believing women
لُعِنُواۡ
are cursed
فِى
in
ٱلدُّنۡيَا
the world
وَٱلۡأَخِرَةِ
and the Hereafter
وَلَهُمۡ
And for them
عَذَابٌ
(is) a punishment
عَظِيمٌ
great
٢٣
Indeed, those who [falsely] accuse chaste, unaware and believing women are cursed in this world and the Hereafter; and they will have a great punishment
24:24
يَوۡمَ
(On a) Day
تَشۡهَدُ
will bear witness
عَلَيۡهِمۡ
against them
أَلۡسِنَتُهُمۡ
their tongues
وَأَيۡدِيهِمۡ
and their hands
وَأَرۡجُلُهُم
and their feet
بِمَا
for what
كَانُواۡ
they used
يَعۡمَلُونَ
(to) do
٢٤
On a Day when their tongues, their hands and their feet will bear witness against them as to what they used to do.
24:25
يَوۡمَئِذٍ
That Day
يُوَفِّيهِمُ
Allah will pay them in full
ٱللَّهُ
Allah will pay them in full
دِينَهُمُ
their recompense
ٱلۡحَقَّ
the due
وَيَعۡلَمُونَ
and they will know
أَنَّ
that
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
هُوَ
He
ٱلۡحَقُّ
(is) the Truth
ٱلۡمُبِينُ
the Manifest
٢٥
That Day, Allāh will pay them in full their true [i.e., deserved] recompense, and they will know that it is Allāh who is the manifest Truth [i.e., perfect in justice].
24:26
ٱلۡخَبِيثَـٰتُ
Evil women
لِلۡخَبِيثِينَ
(are) for evil men
وَٱلۡخَبِيثُونَ
and evil men
لِلۡخَبِيثَـٰتِ‌ۖ
(are) for evil women
وَٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتُ
And good women
لِلطَّيِّبِينَ
(are) for good men
وَٱلطَّيِّبُونَ
and good men
لِلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ‌ۚ
(are) for good women
أُوۡلَـٰٓئِكَ
Those
مُبَرَّءُونَ
(are) innocent
مِمَّا
of what
يَقُولُونَ‌ۖ
they say
لَهُم
For them
مَّغۡفِرَةٌ
(is) forgiveness
وَرِزۡقٌ
and a provision
كَرِيمٌ
noble
٢٦
Evil words are for evil men, and evil men are [subjected] to evil words. And good words are for good men, and good men are [an object] of good words.1 Those [good people] are declared innocent of what they [i.e., slanderers] say. For them is forgiveness and noble provision.
24:27
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
O you
ٱلَّذِينَ
who
ءَامَنُواۡ
believe
لَا
(Do) not
تَدۡخُلُواۡ
enter
بُيُوتًا
houses
غَيۡرَ
other (than)
بُيُوتِكُمۡ
your houses
حَتَّىٰ
until
تَسۡتَأۡنِسُواۡ
you have asked permission
وَتُسَلِّمُواۡ
and you have greeted
عَلَىٰٓ
[on]
أَهۡلِهَا‌ۚ
its inhabitants
ذٰلِكُمۡ
That
خَيۡرٌ
(is) best
لَّكُمۡ
for you
لَعَلَّكُمۡ
so that you may
تَذَكَّرُونَ
pay heed
٢٧
O you who have believed, do not enter houses other than your own houses until you ascertain welcome and greet1 their inhabitants. That is best for you; perhaps you will be reminded [i.e., advised].
24:28
فَإِن
But if
لَّمۡ
not
تَجِدُواۡ
you find
فِيهَآ
in it
أَحَدًا
anyone
فَلَا
then (do) not
تَدۡخُلُوهَا
enter it
حَتَّىٰ
until
يُؤۡذَنَ
permission has been given
لَكُمۡ‌ۖ
to you
وَإِن
And if
قِيلَ
it is said
لَكُمُ
to you
ٱرۡجِعُواۡ
Go back
فَٱرۡجِعُواۡ‌ۖ
then go back
هُوَ
it
أَزۡكَىٰ
(is) purer
لَكُمۡ‌ۚ
for you
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
بِمَا
of what
تَعۡمَلُونَ
you do
عَلِيمٌ
(is) All-Knower
٢٨
And if you do not find anyone therein, do not enter them until permission has been given you. And if it is said to you, "Go back,"1 then go back; it is purer for you. And Allāh is Knowing of what you do.
24:29
لَّيۡسَ
Not
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
upon you
جُنَاحٌ
(is) any blame
أَن
that
تَدۡخُلُواۡ
you enter
بُيُوتًا
houses
غَيۡرَ
not
مَسۡكُونَةٍ
inhabited
فِيهَا
in it
مَتَـٰعٌ
(is) a provision
لَّكُمۡ‌ۚ
for you
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
يَعۡلَمُ
knows
مَا
what
تُبۡدُونَ
you reveal
وَمَا
and what
تَكۡتُمُونَ
you conceal
٢٩
There is no blame upon you for entering houses not inhabited in which there is convenience1 for you. And Allāh knows what you reveal and what you conceal.
24:30
قُل
Say
لِّلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ
to the believing men
يَغُضُّواۡ
they should lower
مِنۡ
their gaze
أَبۡصَـٰرِهِمۡ
their gaze
وَيَحۡفَظُواۡ
and they should guard
فُرُوجَهُمۡ‌ۚ
their chastity
ذٰلِكَ
That
أَزۡكَىٰ
(is) purer
لَهُمۡ‌ۗ
for them
إِنَّ
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
خَبِيرُۢ
(is) All-Aware
بِمَا
of what
يَصۡنَعُونَ
they do
٣٠
Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision1 and guard their private parts.2 That is purer for them. Indeed, Allāh is [fully] Aware of what they do.
24:31
وَقُل
And say
لِّلۡمُؤۡمِنَـٰتِ
to the believing women
يَغۡضُضۡنَ
(that) they should lower

Allāh is the Light1 of the heavens and the earth. Allāh has promised those who have believed among you and done righteous deeds that He will surely grant them succession [to authority] upon the earth just as He granted it to those before them and that He will surely establish for them [therein] their religion which He has preferred for them and that He will surely substitute for them, after their fear, security, [for] they worship Me, not associating anything with Me. But whoever disbelieves1 after that - then those are the defiantly disobedient.

O you who have believed, let those whom your right hands possess and those who have not [yet] reached puberty among you ask permission of you [before entering] at three times: before the dawn prayer and when you put aside your clothing [for rest] at noon and after the night prayer. [These are] three times of privacy1 for you. There is no blame upon you nor upon them beyond these [periods], for they continually circulate among you - some of you, among others. Thus does Allāh make clear to you the verses [i.e., His ordinances]; and Allāh is Knowing and Wise.

There is no blame upon you whether you eat together or separately. But when you enter houses, give greetings of peace1 upon each other - a greeting from Allāh, blessed and good. Thus does Allāh make clear to you the verses [of ordinance] that you may understand.

The believers are only those who believe in Allāh and His Messenger and, when they are [meeting] with him for a matter of common interest, do not depart until they have asked his permission. Indeed, those who ask your permission, [O Muḥammad] - those are the ones who believe in Allāh and His Messenger. So when they ask your permission due to something of their affairs, then give permission to whom you will among them and ask forgiveness for them of Allāh. Indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.

Do not make [your] calling of the Messenger among yourselves as the call of one of you to another. Already Allāh knows those of you who slip away, concealed by others. So let those beware who dissent from his [i.e., the Prophet's] order,1 lest fitnah2 strike them or a painful punishment.
