جزء 12

2 Surahs170 Versesجزء 12
11:6
۞وَمَا
And not
مِن
any
دَآبَّةٍ
moving creature
فِى
in
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
the earth
إِلَّا
but
عَلَى
on
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
رِزۡقُهَا
(is) its provision
وَيَعۡلَمُ
And He knows
مُسۡتَقَرَّهَا
its dwelling place
وَمُسۡتَوۡدَعَهَا‌ۚ
and its place of storage
كُلٌّ
All
فِى
(is) in
كِتَـٰبٍ
a Record
مُّبِينٍ
clear
٦
And there is no creature on earth but that upon Allāh is its provision, and He knows its place of dwelling and place of storage.1 All is in a clear register.
11:7
وَهُوَ
And He
ٱلَّذِى
(is) the One Who
خَلَقَ
created
ٱلسَّمَـٰوٰتِ
the heavens
وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ
and the earth
فِى
in
سِتَّةِ
six
أَيَّامٍ
epochs
وَكَانَ
and His throne was
عَرۡشُهُۥ
and His throne was
عَلَى
on
ٱلۡمَآءِ
the water
لِيَبۡلُوَكُمۡ
that He might test [you]
أَيُّكُمۡ
which of you
أَحۡسَنُ
(is) best
عَمَلاً‌ۗ
(in) deed
وَلَئِن
But if
قُلۡتَ
you say
إِنَّكُم
Indeed, you
مَّبۡعُوثُونَ
(will be) resurrected
مِنۢ
after
بَعۡدِ
after
ٱلۡمَوۡتِ
[the] death
لَيَقُولَنَّ
surely would say
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
كَفَرُوٓاۡ
disbelieved
إِنۡ
This is not
هَـٰذَآ
This is not
إِلَّا
but
سِحۡرٌ
a magic
مُّبِينٌ
clear
٧
And it is He who created the heavens and the earth in six days - and His Throne had been upon water - that He might test you as to which of you is best in deed. But if you say, "Indeed, you are resurrected after death," those who disbelieve will surely say, "This is not but obvious magic."
11:8
وَلَئِنۡ
And if
أَخَّرۡنَا
We delay
عَنۡهُمُ
from them
ٱلۡعَذَابَ
the punishment
إِلَىٰٓ
for
أُمَّةٍ
a time
مَّعۡدُودَةٍ
determined
لَّيَقُولُنَّ
they will surely say
مَا
What
يَحۡبِسُهُۥٓ‌ۗ
detains it
أَلَا
No doubt
يَوۡمَ
(On) the Day
يَأۡتِيهِمۡ
it comes to them
لَيۡسَ
not
مَصۡرُوفًا
(will be) averted
عَنۡهُمۡ
from them
وَحَاقَ
and will surround
بِهِم
them
مَّا
what
كَانُواۡ
they used (to)
بِهِۦ
mock at [it]
يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ
mock at [it]
٨
And if We hold back from them the punishment for a limited time, they will surely say,1 "What detains it?" Unquestionably, on the Day it comes to them, it will not be averted from them, and they will be enveloped by what they used to ridicule.
11:9
وَلَئِنۡ
And if
أَذَقۡنَا
We give man a taste
ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ
We give man a taste
مِنَّا
(of) Mercy from Us
رَحۡمَةً
(of) Mercy from Us
ثُمَّ
then
نَزَعۡنَـٰهَا
We withdraw it
مِنۡهُ
from him
إِنَّهُۥ
indeed, he
لَيَــُٔوسٌ
(is) despairing
كَفُورٌ
(and) ungrateful
٩
And if We give man a taste of mercy from Us and then We withdraw it from him, indeed, he is despairing and ungrateful.
11:10
وَلَئِنۡ
But if
أَذَقۡنَـٰهُ
We give him a taste
نَعۡمَآءَ
(of) favor
بَعۡدَ
after
ضَرَّآءَ
hardship
مَسَّتۡهُ
(has) touched him
لَيَقُولَنَّ
surely, he will say
ذَهَبَ
Have gone
ٱلسَّيِّـَٔـاتُ
the evils
عَنِّىٓ‌ۚ
from me
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed, he
لَفَرِحٌ
(is) exultant
فَخُورٌ
(and) boastful
١٠
But if We give him a taste of favor after hardship has touched him, he will surely say, "Bad times have left me." Indeed, he is exultant and boastful -
11:11
إِلَّا
Except
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
صَبَرُواۡ
(are) patient
وَعَمِلُواۡ
and do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
the good deeds
أُوۡلَـٰٓئِكَ
those
لَهُم
for them
مَّغۡفِرَةٌ
(will be) forgiveness
وَأَجۡرٌ
and a reward
كَبِيرٌ
great
١١
Except for those who are patient and do righteous deeds; those will have forgiveness and great reward.
11:12
فَلَعَلَّكَ
Then possibly you
تَارِكُۢ
(may) give up
بَعۡضَ
a part
مَا
(of) what
يُوحَىٰٓ
is revealed
إِلَيۡكَ
to you
وَضَآئِقُۢ
and straitened
بِهِۦ
by it
صَدۡرُكَ
your breast
أَن
because
يَقُولُواۡ
they say
لَوۡلَآ
Why not
أُنزِلَ
is sent down
عَلَيۡهِ
for him
كَنزٌ
a treasure
أَوۡ
or
جَآءَ
has come
مَعَهُۥ
with him
مَلَكٌ‌ۚ
an Angel
إِنَّمَآ
Only
أَنتَ
you
نَذِيرٌ‌ۚ
(are) a warner
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
عَلَىٰ
(is) on
كُلِّ
every
شَىۡءٍ
thing
وَكِيلٌ
a Guardian
١٢
Then would you possibly leave [out] some of what is revealed to you,1 or is your breast constrained by it because they say, "Why has there not been sent down to him a treasure or come with him an angel?" But you are only a warner. And Allāh is Disposer of all things.
11:13
أَمۡ
Or
يَقُولُونَ
they say
ٱفۡتَرَٮٰهُ‌ۖ
He has fabricated it
قُلۡ
Say
فَأۡتُواۡ
Then bring
بِعَشۡرِ
ten
سُوَرٍ
Surahs
مِّثۡلِهِۦ
like it
مُفۡتَرَيَـٰتٍ
fabricated
وَٱدۡعُواۡ
and call
مَنِ
whoever
ٱسۡتَطَعۡتُم
you can
مِّن
besides Allah
دُونِ
besides Allah
ٱللَّهِ
besides Allah
إِن
if
كُنتُمۡ
you are
صَـٰدِقِينَ
truthful
١٣
Or do they say, "He invented it"? Say, "Then bring ten sūrahs like it that have been invented and call upon [for assistance] whomever you can besides Allāh, if you should be truthful."
11:14
فَإِلَّمۡ
Then if not
يَسۡتَجِيبُواۡ
they respond
لَكُمۡ
to you
فَٱعۡلَمُوٓاۡ
then know
أَنَّمَآ
that
أُنزِلَ
it was sent down
بِعِلۡمِ
with the knowledge of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
with the knowledge of Allah
وَأَن
and that
لَّآ
(there is) no
إِلَـٰهَ
god
إِلَّا
except
هُوَ‌ۖ
Him
فَهَلۡ
Then, would
أَنتُم
you
مُّسۡلِمُونَ
(be) Muslims
١٤
And if they do not respond to you - then know that it [i.e., the Qur’ān] was revealed with the knowledge of Allāh1 and that there is no deity except Him. Then,2 would you [not] be Muslims?
11:15
مَن
Whoever [is]
كَانَ
Whoever [is]
يُرِيدُ
desires
ٱلۡحَيَوٰةَ
the life
ٱلدُّنۡيَا
(of) the world
وَزِينَتَهَا
and its adornments
نُوَفِّ
We will repay in full
إِلَيۡهِمۡ
to them
أَعۡمَـٰلَهُمۡ
(for) their deeds
فِيهَا
therein
وَهُمۡ
and they
فِيهَا
in it
لَا
will not be lessened
يُبۡخَسُونَ
will not be lessened
١٥
Whoever desires the life of this world and its adornments - We fully repay them for their deeds therein,1 and they therein will not be deprived.
11:16
أُوۡلَـٰٓئِكَ
Those
ٱلَّذِينَ
(are) the ones who
لَيۡسَ
(is) not
لَهُمۡ
for them
فِى
in
ٱلۡأَخِرَةِ
the Hereafter
إِلَّا
except
ٱلنَّارُ‌ۖ
the Fire
وَحَبِطَ
And (has) gone in vain
مَا
what
صَنَعُواۡ
they did
فِيهَا
therein
وَبَـٰطِلٌ
and (is) worthless
مَّا
what
كَانُواۡ
they used (to)
يَعۡمَلُونَ
do
١٦
Those are the ones for whom there is not in the Hereafter but the Fire. And lost is what they did therein,1 and worthless is what they used to do.
11:17
أَفَمَن
Then is he who
كَانَ
is
عَلَىٰ
on
بَيِّنَةٍ
a clear proof
مِّن
from
رَّبِّهِۦ
his Lord
وَيَتۡلُوهُ
and recites it
شَاهِدٌ
a witness
مِّنۡهُ
from Him
وَمِن
and before it
قَبۡلِهِۦ
and before it
كِتَـٰبُ
(was) a Book
مُوسَىٰٓ
(of) Musa
إِمَامًا
(as) a guide
وَرَحۡمَةً‌ۚ
and (as) mercy
أُوۡلَـٰٓئِكَ
Those
يُؤۡمِنُونَ
believe
بِهِۦ‌ۚ
in it
وَمَن
But whoever
يَكۡفُرۡ
disbelieves
بِهِۦ
in it
مِنَ
among
ٱلۡأَحۡزَابِ
the sects
فَٱلنَّارُ
then the Fire
مَوۡعِدُهُۥ‌ۚ
(will be) his promised (meeting) place
فَلَا
So (do) not
تَكُ
be
فِى
in
مِرۡيَةٍ
doubt
مِّنۡهُ‌ۚ
about it
إِنَّهُ
Indeed, it
ٱلۡحَقُّ
(is) the truth
مِن
from
رَّبِّكَ
your Lord
وَلَـٰكِنَّ
but
أَكۡثَرَ
most
ٱلنَّاسِ
(of) the people
لَا
(do) not
يُؤۡمِنُونَ
believe
١٧
So is one who [stands] upon a clear evidence from his Lord [like the aforementioned]? And a witness1 from Him follows it,2 and before it was the Scripture of Moses to lead and as mercy. Those [believers in the former revelations] believe in it [i.e., the Qur’ān]. But whoever disbelieves in it from the [various] factions - the Fire is his promised destination. So be not in doubt about it. Indeed, it is the truth from your Lord, but most of the people do not believe.
11:18
وَمَنۡ
And who
أَظۡلَمُ
(is) more unjust
مِمَّنِ
than (he) who
ٱفۡتَرَىٰ
invents
عَلَى
against
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
كَذِبًا‌ۚ
a lie
أُوۡلَـٰٓئِكَ
Those
يُعۡرَضُونَ
will be presented
عَلَىٰ
before
رَبِّهِمۡ
their Lord
وَيَقُولُ
and will say
ٱلۡأَشۡهَـٰدُ
the witnesses
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ
These (are)
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
كَذَبُواۡ
lied
عَلَىٰ
against
رَبِّهِمۡ‌ۚ
their Lord
أَلَا
No doubt
لَعۡنَةُ
(The) curse of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
(The) curse of Allah
عَلَى
(is) on
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
the wrongdoers
١٨
And who is more unjust than he who invents a lie about Allāh? Those will be presented before their Lord, and the witnesses will say, "These are the ones who lied against their Lord." Unquestionably, the curse of Allāh is upon the wrongdoers.
11:19
ٱلَّذِينَ
Those who
يَصُدُّونَ
hinder
عَن
from
سَبِيلِ
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
وَيَبۡغُونَهَا
and seek (in) it
عِوَجًا
crookedness
وَهُم
while they
بِٱلۡأَخِرَةِ
in the Hereafter
هُمۡ
[they]
كَـٰفِرُونَ
(are) disbelievers
١٩
Who averted [people] from the way of Allāh and sought to make it [seem] deviant while they, concerning the Hereafter, were disbelievers.
11:20
أُوۡلَـٰٓئِكَ
Those
لَمۡ
not
يَكُونُواۡ
will be
مُعۡجِزِينَ
(able to) escape
فِى
in
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
the earth
وَمَا
and not
كَانَ
is
لَهُم
for them
مِّن
besides
دُونِ
besides
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
مِنۡ
any
أَوۡلِيَآءَ‌ۘ
protectors
يُضَـٰعَفُ
And will be doubled
لَهُمُ
for them
ٱلۡعَذَابُ‌ۚ
the punishment
مَا
Not
كَانُواۡ
they were
يَسۡتَطِيعُونَ
able
ٱلسَّمۡعَ
(to) hear
وَمَا
and not
كَانُواۡ
they used (to)
يُبۡصِرُونَ
see
٢٠
Those were not causing failure [to Allāh] on earth, nor did they have besides Allāh any protectors. For them the punishment will be multiplied. They were not able to hear, nor did they see.1
11:21
أُوۡلَـٰٓئِكَ
Those
ٱلَّذِينَ
(are) the ones who
خَسِرُوٓاۡ
(have) lost
أَنفُسَهُمۡ
their souls
وَضَلَّ
and lost
عَنۡهُم
from them
مَّا
(is) what
كَانُواۡ
they used
يَفۡتَرُونَ
(to) invent
٢١
Those are the ones who will have lost themselves, and lost from them is what they used to invent.
11:22
لَا
No
جَرَمَ
doubt
أَنَّهُمۡ
that they
فِى
in
ٱلۡأَخِرَةِ
the Hereafter
هُمُ
[they]
ٱلۡأَخۡسَرُونَ
(will be) the greatest losers
٢٢
Assuredly, it is they in the Hereafter who will be the greatest losers.
11:23
إِنَّ
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
ءَامَنُواۡ
believe
وَعَمِلُواۡ
and do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
good deeds
وَأَخۡبَتُوٓاۡ
and humble themselves
إِلَىٰ
before
رَبِّهِمۡ
their Lord
أُوۡلَـٰٓئِكَ
those
أَصۡحَـٰبُ
(are the) companions
ٱلۡجَنَّةِ‌ۖ
(of) Paradise
هُمۡ
they
فِيهَا
in it
خَـٰلِدُونَ
(will) abide forever
٢٣
Indeed, they who have believed and done righteous deeds and humbled themselves to their Lord - those are the companions of Paradise; they will abide eternally therein.
11:24
۞مَثَلُ
(The) example
ٱلۡفَرِيقَيۡنِ
(of) the two parties
كَٱلۡأَعۡمَىٰ
(is) like the blind
وَٱلۡأَصَمِّ
and the deaf
وَٱلۡبَصِيرِ
and the seer
وَٱلسَّمِيعِ‌ۚ
and the hearer
هَلۡ
Are
يَسۡتَوِيَانِ
they equal
مَثَلاً‌ۚ
(in) comparison
أَفَلَا
Then, will not
تَذَكَّرُونَ
you take heed
٢٤
The example of the two parties is like the blind and deaf, and the seeing and hearing. Are they equal in comparison? Then, will you not remember?
11:25
وَلَقَدۡ
And verily
أَرۡسَلۡنَا
We sent
نُوحًا
Nuh
إِلَىٰ
to
قَوۡمِهِۦٓ
his people
إِنِّى
Indeed, I am
لَكُمۡ
to you
نَذِيرٌ
a warner
مُّبِينٌ
clear
٢٥
And We had certainly sent Noah to his people, [saying], "Indeed, I am to you a clear warner
11:26
أَن
That
لَّا
(do) not
تَعۡبُدُوٓاۡ
worship
إِلَّا
except
ٱللَّهَ‌ۖ
Allah
إِنِّىٓ
Indeed, I
أَخَافُ
[I] fear
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
for you
عَذَابَ
(the) punishment
يَوۡمٍ
(of) a Day
أَلِيمٍ
painful
٢٦
That you not worship except Allāh. Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a painful day."
11:27
فَقَالَ
So said
ٱلۡمَلَأُ
the chiefs
ٱلَّذِينَ
(of) those who
كَفَرُواۡ
disbelieved
مِن
from
قَوۡمِهِۦ
his people
مَا
Not
نَرَٮٰكَ
we see you
إِلَّا
but
بَشَرًا
a man
مِّثۡلَنَا
like us
وَمَا
and not
نَرَٮٰكَ
we see you
ٱتَّبَعَكَ
followed [you]
إِلَّا
except
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
هُمۡ
[they]
أَرَاذِلُنَا
(are) the lowest of us
بَادِىَ
immature in opinion
ٱلرَّأۡىِ
immature in opinion
وَمَا
And not
نَرَىٰ
we see
لَكُمۡ
in you
عَلَيۡنَا
over us
مِن
any
فَضۡلِۭ
merit
بَلۡ
nay
نَظُنُّكُمۡ
we think you
كَـٰذِبِينَ
(are) liars
٢٧
So the eminent among those who disbelieved from his people said, "We do not see you but as a man like ourselves, and we do not see you followed except by those who are the lowest of us [and] at first suggestion.1 And we do not see in you over us any merit; rather, we think you are liars."
11:28
قَالَ
He said
يَـٰقَوۡمِ
O my people
أَرَءَيۡتُمۡ
Do you see
إِن
if
كُنتُ
I was
عَلَىٰ
on
بَيِّنَةٍ
(the) clear proof
مِّن
from
رَّبِّى
my Lord
وَءَاتَـٰنِى
while He has given me
رَحۡمَةً
mercy
مِّنۡ
from
عِندِهِۦ
Himself
فَعُمِّيَتۡ
but (it) has been obscured
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
from you
أَنُلۡزِمُكُمُوهَا
should We compel you (to accept) it
وَأَنتُمۡ
while you (are)
لَهَا
averse to it
كَـٰرِهُونَ
averse to it
٢٨
He said, "O my people, have you considered: if I should be upon clear evidence from my Lord while He has given me mercy from Himself but it has been made unapparent to you, should we force it upon you while you are averse to it?
11:29
وَيَـٰقَوۡمِ
And O my people
لَآ
not
أَسۡــَٔلُكُمۡ
I ask (of) you
عَلَيۡهِ
for it
مَالاً‌ۖ
any wealth
إِنۡ
Not
أَجۡرِىَ
(is) my reward
إِلَّا
except
عَلَى
from
ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ
Allah
وَمَآ
And not
أَنَاۡ
I am
بِطَارِدِ
going to drive away
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
ءَامَنُوٓاۡ‌ۚ
believed
إِنَّهُم
Indeed, they
مُّلَـٰقُواۡ
(will) be meeting
رَبِّهِمۡ
their Lord
وَلَـٰكِنِّىٓ
but I
أَرَٮٰكُمۡ
see you
قَوۡمًا
(are) a people
تَجۡهَلُونَ
ignorant
٢٩
And O my people, I ask not of you for it any wealth. My reward is not but from Allāh. And I am not one to drive away those who have believed. Indeed, they will meet their Lord, but I see that you are a people behaving ignorantly.
11:30
وَيَـٰقَوۡمِ
And O my people
مَن
Who
يَنصُرُنِى
would help me
مِنَ
against
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
إِن
if
طَرَدتُّهُمۡ‌ۚ
I drove them away
أَفَلَا
Then, will not
تَذَكَّرُونَ
you take heed
٣٠
And O my people, who would protect me from Allāh if I drove them away? Then will you not be reminded?
11:31
وَلَآ
And not
أَقُولُ
I say
لَكُمۡ
to you
عِندِى
(that) with me
خَزَآئِنُ
(are the) treasures
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
وَلَآ
and not
أَعۡلَمُ
I know
ٱلۡغَيۡبَ
the unseen
وَلَآ
and not
أَقُولُ
I say
إِنِّى
that I am
مَلَكٌ
an Angel
وَلَآ
and not
أَقُولُ
I say
لِلَّذِينَ
for those whom
تَزۡدَرِىٓ
look down upon
أَعۡيُنُكُمۡ
your eyes
لَن
never
يُؤۡتِيَهُمُ
will Allah give them
ٱللَّهُ
will Allah give them
خَيۡرًا‌ۖ
any good
ٱللَّهُ
Allah
أَعۡلَمُ
knows best
بِمَا
what
فِىٓ
(is) in
أَنفُسِهِمۡ‌ۖ
their souls
إِنِّىٓ
Indeed, I
إِذًا
then
لَّمِنَ
(will be) surely of
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
the wrongdoers
٣١
And I do not tell you that I have the depositories [containing the provision] of Allāh or that I know the unseen, nor do I tell you that I am an angel, nor do I say of those upon whom your eyes look down that Allāh will never grant them any good. Allāh is most knowing of what is within their souls. Indeed, I would then be among the wrongdoers [i.e., the unjust]."
11:32
قَالُواۡ
They said
يَـٰنُوحُ
O Nuh
قَدۡ
Indeed
جَـٰدَلۡتَنَا
you disputed with us
فَأَكۡثَرۡتَ
and you (have been) frequent
جِدٰلَنَا
(in) dispute with us
فَأۡتِنَا
So bring us
بِمَا
what
تَعِدُنَآ
you threaten us (with)
إِن
if
كُنتَ
you are
مِنَ
of
ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ
the truthful
٣٢
They said, "O Noah, you have disputed [i.e., opposed] us and been frequent in dispute of us. So bring us what you threaten us, if you should be of the truthful."
11:33
قَالَ
He said
إِنَّمَا
Only
يَأۡتِيكُم
will bring it (on) you
بِهِ
will bring it (on) you
ٱللَّهُ
Allah
إِن
if
شَآءَ
He wills
وَمَآ
and not
أَنتُم
you (are)
بِمُعۡجِزِينَ
one who (can) escape (it)
٣٣
He said, "Allāh will only bring it to you if He wills, and you will not cause [Him] failure.
11:34
وَلَا
And (will) not
يَنفَعُكُمۡ
benefit you
نُصۡحِىٓ
my advice
إِنۡ
(even) if
أَرَدتُّ
I wish
أَنۡ
to
أَنصَحَ
[I] advise
لَكُمۡ
[to] you
إِن

ٱللَّهُ
it was Allah's

let you go astray
هُوَ
He (is)
رَبُّكُمۡ
your Lord
وَإِلَيۡهِ
and to Him
تُرۡجَعُونَ
you will be returned
٣٤
And my advice will not benefit you - although I wished to advise you - if Allāh should intend to put you in error. He is your Lord, and to Him you will be returned."
11:35
أَمۡ
Or
يَقُولُونَ
(do) they say
ٱفۡتَرَٮٰهُ‌ۖ
He has invented it
قُلۡ
Say
إِنِ
If
ٱفۡتَرَيۡتُهُۥ
I have invented it
فَعَلَىَّ
then on me
إِجۡرَامِى
(is) my crime
وَأَنَاۡ
but I am
بَرِىٓءٌ
innocent
مِّمَّا
of what
تُجۡرِمُونَ
crimes you commit
٣٥
Or do they say [about Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)], "He invented it"? Say, "If I have invented it, then upon me is [the consequence of] my crime; but I am innocent of what [crimes] you commit."
11:36
وَأُوحِىَ
And it was revealed
إِلَىٰ
to
نُوحٍ
Nuh
أَنَّهُۥ
That
لَن
will never
يُؤۡمِنَ
believe
مِن
from
قَوۡمِكَ
your people
إِلَّا
except
مَن
(those) who
قَدۡ
have already
ءَامَنَ
believed
فَلَا
So (do) not
تَبۡتَئِسۡ
(be) distressed
بِمَا
by what
كَانُواۡ
they have been
يَفۡعَلُونَ
doing
٣٦
And it was revealed to Noah that, "No one will believe from your people except those who have already believed, so do not be distressed by what they have been doing.
11:37
وَٱصۡنَعِ
And construct
ٱلۡفُلۡكَ
the ship
بِأَعۡيُنِنَا
under Our Eyes
وَوَحۡيِنَا
and Our inspiration
وَلَا
and (do) not
تُخَـٰطِبۡنِى
address Me
فِى
concerning
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
ظَلَمُوٓاۡ‌ۚ
wronged
إِنَّهُم
indeed, they (are)
مُّغۡرَقُونَ
the ones (to be) drowned
٣٧
And construct the ship under Our observation and Our inspiration and do not address Me concerning those who have wronged; indeed, they are [to be] drowned."
11:38
وَيَصۡنَعُ
And he was constructing
ٱلۡفُلۡكَ
the ship
وَكُلَّمَا
and every time
مَرَّ
passed
عَلَيۡهِ
by him
مَلَأٌ
(the) chiefs
مِّن
of
قَوۡمِهِۦ
his people
سَخِرُواۡ
they ridiculed
مِنۡهُ‌ۚ
[of] him
قَالَ
He said
إِن
If
تَسۡخَرُواۡ
you ridicule
مِنَّا
us
فَإِنَّا
then we
نَسۡخَرُ
can ridicule
مِنكُمۡ
you
كَمَا
as
تَسۡخَرُونَ
you ridicule
٣٨
And he constructed the ship, and whenever an assembly of the eminent of his people passed by him, they ridiculed him. He said, "If you ridicule us, then we will ridicule you just as you ridicule.
11:39
فَسَوۡفَ
And soon
تَعۡلَمُونَ
you will know
مَن
(on) whom
يَأۡتِيهِ
will come
عَذَابٌ
a punishment
يُخۡزِيهِ
(that) will disgrace him
وَيَحِلُّ
and will descend
عَلَيۡهِ
on him
عَذَابٌ
a punishment
مُّقِيمٌ
lasting
٣٩
And you are going to know who will get a punishment that will disgrace him [on earth] and upon whom will descend an enduring punishment [in the Hereafter]."
11:40
حَتَّىٰٓ
Till
إِذَا
when
جَآءَ
came
أَمۡرُنَا
Our command
وَفَارَ
and overflowed
ٱلتَّنُّورُ
the oven
قُلۡنَا
We said
ٱحۡمِلۡ
Load
فِيهَا
in it
مِن
of
كُلٍّ
every kind
زَوۡجَيۡنِ
a pair
ٱثۡنَيۡنِ
two
وَأَهۡلَكَ
and your family
إِلَّا
except
مَن
who
سَبَقَ
has preceded
عَلَيۡهِ
against him
ٱلۡقَوۡلُ
the word
وَمَنۡ
and whoever
ءَامَنَ‌ۚ
believed
وَمَآ
And not
ءَامَنَ
believed
مَعَهُۥٓ
with him
إِلَّا
except
قَلِيلٌ
a few
٤٠
[So it was], until when Our command came and the oven overflowed,1 We said, "Load upon it [i.e., the ship] of each [creature] two mates and your family, except those about whom the word [i.e., decree] has preceded, and [include] whoever has believed." But none had believed with him, except a few.
11:41
۞وَقَالَ
And he said
ٱرۡكَبُواۡ
Embark
فِيهَا
in it
بِسۡمِ
in the name
ٱللَّهِ
of Allah
مَجۡر۪ٮٰهَا
(is) its course
وَمُرۡسَـٰهَآ‌ۚ
and its anchorage
إِنَّ
Indeed
رَبِّى
my Lord
لَغَفُورٌ
(is) certainly Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌ
Most Merciful
٤١
And [Noah] said, "Embark therein; in the name of Allāh [are] its course and its anchorage. Indeed, my Lord is Forgiving and Merciful."
11:42
وَهِىَ
And it
تَجۡرِى
sailed
بِهِمۡ
with them
فِى
on
مَوۡجٍ
the waves
كَٱلۡجِبَالِ
like mountains
وَنَادَىٰ
and Nuh called out
نُوحٌ
and Nuh called out
ٱبۡنَهُۥ
(to) his son
وَكَانَ
and he was
فِى
[in]
مَعۡزِلٍ
apart
يَـٰبُنَىَّ
O my son
ٱرۡكَب
Embark
مَّعَنَا
with us
وَلَا
and (do) not
تَكُن
be
مَّعَ
with
ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِينَ
the disbelievers
٤٢
And it sailed with them through waves like mountains, and Noah called to his son who was apart [from them], "O my son, come aboard with us and be not with the disbelievers."
11:43
قَالَ
He said
سَـَٔـاوِىٓ
I will betake myself
إِلَىٰ
to
جَبَلٍ
a mountain
يَعۡصِمُنِى
(that) will save me
مِنَ
from
ٱلۡمَآءِ‌ۚ
the water
قَالَ
He said
لَا
(There is) no
عَاصِمَ
protector
ٱلۡيَوۡمَ
today
مِنۡ
from
أَمۡرِ
the Command of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
the Command of Allah
إِلَّا
except
مَن
(on) whom
رَّحِمَ‌ۚ
He has mercy
وَحَالَ
And came
بَيۡنَهُمَا
(in) between them
ٱلۡمَوۡجُ
the waves
فَكَانَ
so he was
مِنَ
among
ٱلۡمُغۡرَقِينَ
the drowned
٤٣
[But] he said, "I will take refuge on a mountain to protect me from the water." [Noah] said, "There is no protector today from the decree of Allāh, except for whom He gives mercy." And the waves came between them, and he was among the drowned.
11:44
وَقِيلَ
And it was said
يَـٰٓأَرۡضُ
O earth
ٱبۡلَعِى
Swallow
مَآءَكِ
your water
وَيَـٰسَمَآءُ
and O sky
أَقۡلِعِى
Withhold
وَغِيضَ
And subsided
ٱلۡمَآءُ
the water
وَقُضِىَ
and was fulfilled
ٱلۡأَمۡرُ
the Command
وَٱسۡتَوَتۡ
And it rested
عَلَى
on
ٱلۡجُودِىِّ‌ۖ
the Judi
وَقِيلَ
And it was said
بُعۡدًا
Away
لِّلۡقَوۡمِ
with the people
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
the wrongdoers
٤٤
And it was said, "O earth, swallow your water, and O sky, withhold [your rain]." And the water subsided, and the matter was accomplished, and it [i.e., the ship] came to rest on the [mountain of] Jūdiyy. And it was said, "Away with the wrongdoing people."
11:45
وَنَادَىٰ
And Nuh called
نُوحٌ
And Nuh called
رَّبَّهُۥ
(to) his Lord
فَقَالَ
and said
رَبِّ
O my Lord

Your promise
ٱلۡحَقُّ
(is) true
وَأَنتَ
and You
أَحۡكَمُ
(are) the Most Just
ٱلۡحَـٰكِمِينَ
(of) the judges
٤٥
And Noah called to his Lord and said, "My Lord, indeed my son is of my family; and indeed, Your promise is true; and You are the most just of judges!"
11:46
قَالَ
He said
يَـٰنُوحُ
O Nuh
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed, he

Indeed, I
أَعِظُكَ
admonish you
أَن
lest
تَكُونَ
you be
مِنَ
among
ٱلۡجَـٰهِلِينَ
the ignorant
٤٦
He said, "O Noah, indeed he is not of your family; indeed, he is [one whose] work was other than righteous, so ask Me not for that about which you have no knowledge. Indeed, I advise you, lest you be among the ignorant."
11:47
قَالَ
He said
رَبِّ
O my Lord
إِنِّىٓ
Indeed, I
أَعُوذُ

and You have mercy on me
أَكُن
I will be
مِّنَ
among
ٱلۡخَـٰسِرِينَ
the losers
٤٧
[Noah] said, "My Lord, I seek refuge in You from asking that of which I have no knowledge. And unless You forgive me and have mercy upon me, I will be among the losers."
11:48
قِيلَ
It was said
يَـٰنُوحُ
O Nuh
ٱهۡبِطۡ
Go down
بِسَلَـٰمٍ
with peace
مِّنَّا
from Us

But (to other) nations
سَنُمَتِّعُهُمۡ
We will grant enjoyment
ثُمَّ
then
يَمَسُّهُم
will touch them
مِّنَّا
from Us
عَذَابٌ
a punishment
أَلِيمٌ
painful
٤٨
It was said, "O Noah, disembark in security from Us and blessings upon you and upon nations [descending] from those with you. But other nations [of them] We will grant enjoyment; then there will touch them from Us a painful punishment."
11:49
تِلۡكَ
This

ٱلۡعَـٰقِبَةَ

٤٩
That is from the news of the unseen which We reveal to you, [O Muḥammad]. You knew it not, neither you nor your people, before this. So be patient; indeed, the [best] outcome is for the righteous.
11:50
وَإِلَىٰ
And to
عَادٍ
Aad
أَخَاهُمۡ
(We sent) their brother
هُودًا‌ۚ
Hud

٥٠
And to ʿAad [We sent] their brother Hūd. He said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him. You are not but inventors [of falsehood].
11:51

٥١
O my people, I do not ask you for it [i.e., my advice] any reward. My reward is only from the one who created me. Then will you not reason?
11:52
وَيَـٰقَوۡمِ
And O my people
ٱسۡتَغۡفِرُواۡ
Ask forgiveness
رَبَّكُمۡ
(of) your Lord
ثُمَّ
then

turn in repentance
إِلَيۡهِ
to Him
يُرۡسِلِ
He will send
ٱلسَّمَآءَ

٥٢
And O my people, ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in showers and increase you in strength [added] to your strength. And do not turn away, [being] criminals."
11:53
قَالُواۡ
They said
يَـٰهُودُ
O Hud
مَا

You have not brought us

٥٣
They said, "O Hūd, you have not brought us clear evidence, and we are not ones to leave our gods on your say-so. Nor are we believers in you.
11:54
إِن
Not

بَرِىٓءٌ
innocent

of what
تُشۡرِكُونَ
you associate
٥٤
We only say that some of our gods have possessed you with evil [i.e., insanity]." He said, "Indeed, I call Allāh to witness, and witness [yourselves] that I am free from whatever you associate with Allāh
11:55
مِن

Other than Him

٥٥
Other than Him. So plot against me all together; then do not give me respite.
11:56
إِنِّى
Indeed, I
تَوَكَّلۡتُ
[I] put my trust

Allah
رَبِّى

٥٦
Indeed, I have relied upon Allāh, my Lord and your Lord. There is no creature but that He holds it by its forelock [i.e., controls it]. Indeed, my Lord is on a path [that is] straight.
11:57
فَإِن

٥٧
But if you turn away, then I have already conveyed that with which I was sent to you. My Lord will give succession to a people other than you, and you will not harm Him at all. Indeed my Lord is, over all things, Guardian."1
11:58
وَلَمَّا
And when

came
أَمۡرُنَا
Our command

٥٨
And when Our command came, We saved Hūd and those who believed with him, by mercy from Us; and We saved them from a harsh punishment.
11:59
وَتِلۡكَ
And this
عَادٌ‌ۖ

٥٩
And that was ʿAad, who rejected the signs of their Lord and disobeyed His messengers and followed the order of every obstinate tyrant.
11:60
وَأُتۡبِعُواۡ
And they were followed

٦٠
And they were [therefore] followed in this world with a curse and [as well] on the Day of Resurrection. Unquestionably, ʿAad denied their Lord; then away with ʿAad, the people of Hūd.

And to Thamūd [We sent] their brother Ṣāliḥ. He said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him. He has produced you from the earth and settled you in it, so ask forgiveness of Him and then repent to Him. Indeed, my Lord is near and responsive."

(can) help me
مِنَ
against
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
إِنۡ
if
عَصَيۡتُهُۥ‌ۖ
I (were to) disobey Him
فَمَا
So not
تَزِيدُونَنِى
you would increase me
غَيۡرَ
but
تَخۡسِيرٍ
(in) loss
٦٣
He said, "O my people, have you considered: if I should be upon clear evidence from my Lord and He has given me mercy from Himself, who would protect me from Allāh if I disobeyed Him? So you would not increase me except in loss.
11:64
وَيَـٰقَوۡمِ
And O my people
هَـٰذِهِۦ
This
نَاقَةُ
she-camel
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
لَكُمۡ
(is) for you
ءَايَةً
a Sign
فَذَرُوهَا
so leave her
تَأۡكُلۡ
to eat
فِىٓ
in
أَرۡضِ
the earth
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
وَلَا
and (do) not
تَمَسُّوهَا
touch her
بِسُوٓءٍ
with harm
فَيَأۡخُذَكُمۡ
lest will seize you
عَذَابٌ
a punishment
قَرِيبٌ
impending
٦٤
And O my people, this is the she-camel of Allāh - [she is] to you a sign. So let her feed upon Allāh's earth and do not touch her with harm, or you will be taken by an impending punishment."
11:65
فَعَقَرُوهَا
But they hamstrung her
فَقَالَ
So he said
تَمَتَّعُواۡ
Enjoy (yourselves)
فِى
in
دَارِكُمۡ
your home(s)
ثَلَـٰثَةَ
(for) three
أَيَّامٍ‌ۖ
days
ذٰلِكَ
That
وَعۡدٌ
(is) a promise
غَيۡرُ
not
مَكۡذُوبٍ
(to) be belied
٦٥
But they hamstrung her, so he said, "Enjoy yourselves in your homes for three days. That is a promise not to be denied [i.e., unfailing]."
11:66
فَلَمَّا
So when
جَآءَ
came
أَمۡرُنَا
Our command
نَجَّيۡنَا
We saved
صَـٰلِحًا
Salih
وَٱلَّذِينَ
and those who
ءَامَنُواۡ
believed
مَعَهُۥ
with him
بِرَحۡمَةٍ
by a Mercy
مِّنَّا
from Us
وَمِنۡ
and from
خِزۡىِ
(the) disgrace
يَوۡمِئِذٍ‌ۗ
(of) that Day
إِنَّ
Indeed
رَبَّكَ
your Lord
هُوَ
He
ٱلۡقَوِىُّ
(is) All-Strong
ٱلۡعَزِيزُ
All-Mighty
٦٦
So when Our command came, We saved Ṣāliḥ and those who believed with him, by mercy from Us, and [saved them] from the disgrace of that day.1 Indeed, it is your Lord who is the Powerful, the Exalted in Might.
11:67
وَأَخَذَ
And seized
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
ظَلَمُواۡ
wronged
ٱلصَّيۡحَةُ
the thunderous blast
فَأَصۡبَحُواۡ
then they became
فِى
in
دِيَـٰرِهِمۡ
their homes
جَـٰثِمِينَ
fallen prone
٦٧
And the shriek1 seized those who had wronged, and they became within their homes [corpses] fallen prone
11:68
كَأَن
As if
لَّمۡ
not
يَغۡنَوۡاۡ
they (had) prospered
فِيهَآ‌ۗ
therein
أَلَآ
No doubt
إِنَّ
indeed
ثَمُودَاۡ
Thamud
كَفَرُواۡ
disbelieved
رَبَّهُمۡ‌ۗ
(in) their Lord
أَلَا
so
بُعۡدًا
away
لِّثَمُودَ
with Thamud
٦٨
As if they had never prospered therein. Unquestionably, Thamūd denied their Lord; then, away with Thamūd.
11:69
وَلَقَدۡ
And certainly
جَآءَتۡ
came
رُسُلُنَآ
Our messengers
إِبۡرٰهِيمَ
(to) Ibrahim
بِٱلۡبُشۡرَىٰ
with glad tidings
قَالُواۡ
they said
سَلَـٰمًا‌ۖ
Peace
قَالَ
He said
سَلَـٰمٌ‌ۖ
Peace
فَمَا
and not he delayed
لَبِثَ
and not he delayed
أَن
to
جَآءَ
bring
بِعِجۡلٍ
a calf
حَنِيذٍ
roasted
٦٩
And certainly did Our messengers [i.e., angels] come to Abraham with good tidings; they said, "Peace." He said, "Peace," and did not delay in bringing [them] a roasted calf.
11:70
فَلَمَّا
But when
رَءَآ
he saw
أَيۡدِيَهُمۡ
their hands
لَا
not
تَصِلُ
reaching
إِلَيۡهِ
to it
نَكِرَهُمۡ
he felt unfamiliar of them
وَأَوۡجَسَ
and felt apprehension
مِنۡهُمۡ
from them
خِيفَةً‌ۚ
[a fear]
قَالُواۡ
They said
لَا
(Do) not
تَخَفۡ
fear
إِنَّآ
Indeed, we
أُرۡسِلۡنَآ
[we] have been sent
إِلَىٰ
to
قَوۡمِ
(the) people
لُوطٍ
(of) Lut
٧٠
But when he saw their hands not reaching for it, he distrusted them and felt from them apprehension.1 They said, "Fear not. We have been sent to the people of Lot."
11:71
وَٱمۡرَأَتُهُۥ
And his wife
قَآئِمَةٌ
(was) standing
فَضَحِكَتۡ
and she laughed
فَبَشَّرۡنَـٰهَا
Then We gave her glad tidings
بِإِسۡحَـٰقَ
of Isaac
وَمِن
and after
وَرَآءِ
and after
إِسۡحَـٰقَ
Isaac
يَعۡقُوبَ
(of) Yaqub
٧١
And his wife was standing, and she smiled.1 Then We gave her good tidings of Isaac and after Isaac, Jacob.
11:72
قَالَتۡ
She said
يَـٰوَيۡلَتَىٰٓ
Woe to me
ءَأَلِدُ
Shall I bear a child
وَأَنَاۡ
while I am
عَجُوزٌ
an old woman
وَهَـٰذَا
and this
بَعۡلِى
my husband
شَيۡخًا‌ۖ
(is) an old man
إِنَّ
Indeed
هَـٰذَا
this
لَشَىۡءٌ
(is) surely a thing
عَجِيبٌ
amazing
٧٢
She said, "Woe to me!1 Shall I give birth while I am an old woman and this, my husband, is an old man? Indeed, this is an amazing thing!"
11:73
قَالُوٓاۡ
They said
أَتَعۡجَبِينَ
Are you amazed
مِنۡ
at
أَمۡرِ
(the) decree of Allah
ٱللَّهِ‌ۖ
(the) decree of Allah
رَحۡمَتُ
The Mercy of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
The Mercy of Allah
وَبَرَكَـٰتُهُۥ
and His blessings
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
(be) upon you
أَهۡلَ
people
ٱلۡبَيۡتِ‌ۚ
(of) the house
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed, He
حَمِيدٌ
(is) All-Praiseworthy
مَّجِيدٌ
All-Glorious
٧٣
They said, "Are you amazed at the decree of Allāh? May the mercy of Allāh and His blessings be upon you, people of the house. Indeed, He is Praiseworthy and Honorable."
11:74
فَلَمَّا
And when
ذَهَبَ
(had) gone away
عَنۡ
from
إِبۡرٰهِيمَ
Ibrahim
ٱلرَّوۡعُ
the fright
وَجَآءَتۡهُ
and had reached him
ٱلۡبُشۡرَىٰ
the glad tidings
يُجَـٰدِلُنَا
he argued with Us
فِى
concerning
قَوۡمِ
the people
لُوطٍ
of Lut
٧٤
And when the fright had left Abraham and the good tidings had reached him, he began to argue [i.e., plead] with Us1 concerning the people of Lot.
11:75
إِنَّ
Indeed
إِبۡرٰهِيمَ
Ibrahim
لَحَلِيمٌ
(was) certainly forbearing
أَوّٰهٌ
imploring
مُّنِيبٌ
and oft-returning
٧٥
Indeed, Abraham was forbearing, grieving1 and [frequently] returning [to Allāh].
11:76
يَـٰٓإِبۡرٰهِيمُ
O Ibrahim
أَعۡرِضۡ
Turn away
عَنۡ
from
هَـٰذَآ‌ۖ
this
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed, it
قَدۡ
certainly
جَآءَ
has come
أَمۡرُ
(the) Command
رَبِّكَ‌ۖ
(of) your Lord
وَإِنَّهُمۡ
and indeed, [they]
ءَاتِيهِمۡ
(will) come (for) them
عَذَابٌ
a punishment
غَيۡرُ
(which) cannot
مَرۡدُودٍ
(be) repelled
٧٦
[The angels said], "O Abraham, give up this [plea]. Indeed, the command of your Lord has come, and indeed, there will reach them a punishment that cannot be repelled."
11:77
وَلَمَّا
And when
جَآءَتۡ
came
رُسُلُنَا
Our messengers
لُوطًا
(to) Lut
سِىٓءَ
he was distressed
بِهِمۡ
for them
وَضَاقَ
and felt straitened
بِهِمۡ
for them
ذَرۡعًا
(and) uneasy
وَقَالَ
and said
هَـٰذَا
This
يَوۡمٌ
(is) a day
عَصِيبٌ
distressful
٧٧
And when Our messengers, [the angels], came to Lot, he was anguished for them and felt for them great discomfort1 and said, "This is a trying day."
11:78
وَجَآءَهُۥ
And came (to) him
قَوۡمُهُۥ
his people
يُهۡرَعُونَ
rushing
إِلَيۡهِ
to him
وَمِن
and before
قَبۡلُ
and before
كَانُواۡ
they (had) been
يَعۡمَلُونَ
doing
ٱلسَّيِّـَٔـاتِ‌ۚ
the evil deeds
قَالَ
He said
يَـٰقَوۡمِ
O my people
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ
These
بَنَاتِى
(are) my daughters
هُنَّ
they
أَطۡهَرُ
(are) purer
لَكُمۡ‌ۖ
for you
فَٱتَّقُواۡ
So fear
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
وَلَا
and (do) not
تُخۡزُونِ
disgrace me
فِى
concerning
ضَيۡفِىٓ‌ۖ
my guests
أَلَيۡسَ
Is (there) not
مِنكُمۡ
among you
رَجُلٌ
a man
رَّشِيدٌ
right-minded
٧٨
And his people came hastening to him, and before [this] they had been doing evil deeds.1 He said, "O my people, these are my daughters;2 they are purer for you. So fear Allāh and do not disgrace me concerning my guests. Is there not among you a man of reason?"
11:79
قَالُواۡ
They said
لَقَدۡ
Verily
عَلِمۡتَ
you know
مَا
(that) not
لَنَا
we have
فِى
concerning
بَنَاتِكَ
your daughters
مِنۡ
any
حَقٍّ
right
وَإِنَّكَ
And indeed, you
لَتَعۡلَمُ
surely know
مَا
what
نُرِيدُ
we want
٧٩
They said, "You have already known that we have not concerning your daughters [i.e., women] any claim [i.e., desire], and indeed, you know what we want."
11:80
قَالَ
He said
لَوۡ
If
أَنَّ
that
لِى
I had
بِكُمۡ
over you
قُوَّةً
power
أَوۡ
or
ءَاوِىٓ
I could take refuge
إِلَىٰ
in
رُكۡنٍ
a support
شَدِيدٍ
strong
٨٠
He said, "If only I had against you some power or could take refuge in a strong support."
11:81
قَالُواۡ
They said
يَـٰلُوطُ
O Lut
إِنَّا
Indeed, we
رُسُلُ
(are) messengers
رَبِّكَ
(of) your Lord
لَن
never
يَصِلُوٓاۡ
they will reach
إِلَيۡكَ‌ۖ
you
فَأَسۡرِ
So travel
بِأَهۡلِكَ
with your family
بِقِطۡعٍ
in a part
مِّنَ
of
ٱلَّيۡلِ
the night
وَلَا
and (let) not
يَلۡتَفِتۡ
look back
مِنكُمۡ
anyone of you
أَحَدٌ
anyone of you
إِلَّا
except
ٱمۡرَأَتَكَ‌ۖ
your wife
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed, it
مُصِيبُهَا
will strike her
مَآ
what
أَصَابَهُمۡ‌ۚ
will strike them
إِنَّ
Indeed
مَوۡعِدَهُمُ
their appointed time
ٱلصُّبۡحُ‌ۚ
(is) morning
أَلَيۡسَ
Is not
ٱلصُّبۡحُ
the morning
بِقَرِيبٍ
near
٨١
They [the angels] said, "O Lot, indeed we are messengers of your Lord; [therefore], they will never reach you. So set out with your family during a portion of the night1 and let not any among you look back - except your wife; indeed, she will be struck by that which strikes them. Indeed, their appointment is [for] the morning. Is not the morning near?"
11:82
فَلَمَّا
So when
جَآءَ
came
أَمۡرُنَا
Our Command
جَعَلۡنَا
We made
عَـٰلِيَهَا
its upside
سَافِلَهَا
its downside
وَأَمۡطَرۡنَا
and We rained
عَلَيۡهَا
upon them
حِجَارَةً
stones
مِّن
of
سِجِّيلٍ
baked clay
مَّنضُودٍ
(in) layers
٨٢
So when Our command came, We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of layered hard clay, [which were]
11:83
مُّسَوَّمَةً
Marked
عِندَ
from
رَبِّكَ‌ۖ
your Lord
وَمَا
And not
هِىَ
it
مِنَ
(is) from
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
the wrongdoers
بِبَعِيدٍ
far
٨٣
Marked from your Lord. And it [i.e., Allāh's punishment] is not from the wrongdoers [very] far.
11:84
۞وَإِلَىٰ
And to
مَدۡيَنَ
Madyan
أَخَاهُمۡ
their brother
شُعَيۡبًا‌ۚ
Shuaib
قَالَ
He said
يَـٰقَوۡمِ
O my people
ٱعۡبُدُواۡ
Worship
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
مَا
not
لَكُم
(is) for you
مِّنۡ
any
إِلَـٰهٍ
god
غَيۡرُهُۥ‌ۖ
other than Him
وَلَا
And (do) not
تَنقُصُواۡ
decrease
ٱلۡمِكۡيَالَ
(from) the measure
وَٱلۡمِيزَانَ‌ۚ
and the scale
إِنِّىٓ
Indeed, I
أَرَٮٰكُم
see you
بِخَيۡرٍ
in prosperity
وَإِنِّىٓ
but indeed, I
أَخَافُ
fear
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
for you
عَذَابَ
punishment
يَوۡمٍ
(of) a Day
مُّحِيطٍ
all-encompassing
٨٤
And to Madyan [We sent] their brother Shuʿayb. He said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him. And do not decrease from the measure and the scale. Indeed, I see you in prosperity, but indeed, I fear for you the punishment of an all-encompassing Day.
11:85
وَيَـٰقَوۡمِ
And O my people
أَوۡفُواۡ
Give full
ٱلۡمِكۡيَالَ
measure
وَٱلۡمِيزَانَ
and weight
بِٱلۡقِسۡطِ‌ۖ
in justice
وَلَا
and (do) not
تَبۡخَسُواۡ
deprive
ٱلنَّاسَ
the people
أَشۡيَآءَهُمۡ
(of) their things
وَلَا
and (do) not
تَعۡثَوۡاۡ
act wickedly
فِى
in
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
the earth
مُفۡسِدِينَ
spreading corruption
٨٥
And O my people, give full measure and weight in justice and do not deprive the people of their due and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption.
11:86
بَقِيَّتُ
(What) remains
ٱللَّهِ

٨٦
What remains [lawful] from Allāh is best for you, if you would be believers. But I am not a guardian over you."
11:87
قَالُواۡ
They said
يَـٰشُعَيۡبُ
O Shuaib
أَصَلَوٰتُكَ
Does your prayer

ٱلرَّشِيدُ
the right-minded
٨٧
They said, "O Shuʿayb, does your prayer [i.e., religion] command you that we should leave what our fathers worship or not do with our wealth what we please? Indeed, you are the forbearing, the discerning!"1
11:88
قَالَ
He said

٨٨
He said, "O my people, have you considered: if I am upon clear evidence from my Lord and He has provided me with a good provision from Him...?1 And I do not intend to differ from you in that which I have forbidden you; I only intend reform as much as I am able. And my success is not but through Allāh. Upon Him I have relied, and to Him I return.2
11:89
وَيَـٰقَوۡمِ
And O my people
لَا

And O my people, let not [your] dissension from me cause you to be struck by that similar to what struck the people of Noah or the people of Hūd or the people of Ṣāliḥ. And the people of Lot are not from you far away.
11:90
وَٱسۡتَغۡفِرُواۡ
And ask forgiveness
رَبَّكُمۡ

٩٠
And ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him. Indeed, my Lord is Merciful and Affectionate."
11:91
قَالُواۡ
They said
يَـٰشُعَيۡبُ
O Shuaib
مَا
Not
نَفۡقَهُ
we understand
كَثِيرًا
much

surely we would have stoned you

٩١
They said, "O Shuʿayb, we do not understand much of what you say, and indeed, we consider you among us as weak. And if not for your family, we would have stoned you [to death]; and you are not to us one respected."
11:92
قَالَ
He said
يَـٰقَوۡمِ
O my people
أَرَهۡطِىٓ
Is my family
أَعَزُّ

He said, "O my people, is my family more respected for power by you than Allāh? But you put Him behind your backs [in neglect]. Indeed, my Lord is encompassing of what you do.
11:93
وَيَـٰقَوۡمِ

٩٣
And O my people, work according to your position; indeed, I am working. You are going to know to whom will come a punishment that will disgrace him and who is a liar. So watch; indeed, I am with you a watcher, [awaiting the outcome]."
11:94
وَلَمَّا

بِرَحۡمَةٍ
by a Mercy
مِّنَّا
from Us
وَأَخَذَتِ
And seized
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
ظَلَمُواۡ
wronged
ٱلصَّيۡحَةُ
the thunderous blast
فَأَصۡبَحُواۡ
then they became
فِى
in
دِيَـٰرِهِمۡ
their homes
جَـٰثِمِينَ
fallen prone
٩٤
And when Our command came, We saved Shuʿayb and those who believed with him, by mercy from Us. And the shriek seized those who had wronged, and they became within their homes [corpses] fallen prone
11:95
كَأَن
As if
لَّمۡ
not
يَغۡنَوۡاۡ
they (had) prospered
فِيهَآ‌ۗ
therein
أَلَا
So
بُعۡدًا
away
لِّمَدۡيَنَ
with Madyan
كَمَا
as
بَعِدَتۡ
was taken away
ثَمُودُ
the Thamud
٩٥
As if they had never prospered therein. Then, away with Madyan as Thamūd was taken away.
11:96
وَلَقَدۡ
And certainly
أَرۡسَلۡنَا
We sent
مُوسَىٰ
Musa
بِـَٔـايَـٰتِنَا
with Our Signs
وَسُلۡطَـٰنٍ
and an authority
مُّبِينٍ
clear
٩٦
And We did certainly send Moses with Our signs and a clear authority1
11:97
إِلَىٰ
To
فِرۡعَوۡنَ
Firaun
وَمَلَإِيۡهِۦ
and his chiefs
فَٱتَّبَعُوٓاۡ
but they followed
أَمۡرَ
(the) command of Firaun
فِرۡعَوۡنَ‌ۖ
(the) command of Firaun
وَمَآ
and not
أَمۡرُ
(the) command of Firaun
فِرۡعَوۡنَ
(the) command of Firaun
بِرَشِيدٍ
was right
٩٧
To Pharaoh and his establishment, but they followed the command of Pharaoh, and the command of Pharaoh was not [at all] discerning.
11:98
يَقۡدُمُ
He will precede
قَوۡمَهُۥ
his people
يَوۡمَ
(on the) Day
ٱلۡقِيَـٰمَةِ
(of) the Resurrection
فَأَوۡرَدَهُمُ
and lead them
ٱلنَّارَ‌ۖ
(into) the Fire
وَبِئۡسَ
And wretched
ٱلۡوِرۡدُ
(is) the place
ٱلۡمَوۡرُودُ
to which (they are) led
٩٨
He will precede his people on the Day of Resurrection and lead them into the Fire; and wretched is the place to which they are led.
11:99
وَأُتۡبِعُواۡ
And they were followed
فِى
in
هَـٰذِهِۦ
this
لَعۡنَةً
(by) a curse
وَيَوۡمَ
and (on the) Day
ٱلۡقِيَـٰمَةِ‌ۚ
(of) the Resurrection
بِئۡسَ
Wretched
ٱلرِّفۡدُ
(is) the gift
ٱلۡمَرۡفُودُ
which (will) be given
٩٩
And they were followed in this [world] with a curse and on the Day of Resurrection. And wretched is the gift1 which is given.
11:100
ذٰلِكَ
That
مِنۡ
(is) from
أَنۢبَآءِ
(the) news
ٱلۡقُرَىٰ
(of) the cities
نَقُصُّهُۥ
(which) We relate
عَلَيۡكَ‌ۖ
to you
مِنۡهَا
of them
قَآئِمٌ
some are standing
وَحَصِيدٌ
and (some) mown
١٠٠
That is from the news of the cities, which We relate to you; of them, some are [still] standing and some are [as] a harvest [mowed down].1
11:101
وَمَا
And not
ظَلَمۡنَـٰهُمۡ
We wronged them
وَلَـٰكِن
but
ظَلَمُوٓاۡ
they wronged
أَنفُسَهُمۡ‌ۖ
themselves
فَمَآ
So not
أَغۡنَتۡ
availed
عَنۡهُمۡ
them
ءَالِهَتُهُمُ
their gods
ٱلَّتِى
which
يَدۡعُونَ
they invoked
مِن
other than Allah
دُونِ
other than Allah
ٱللَّهِ
other than Allah
مِن
any
شَىۡءٍ
thing
لَّمَّا
when
جَآءَ
came
أَمۡرُ
(the) command (of) your Lord
رَبِّكَ‌ۖ
(the) command (of) your Lord
وَمَا
And not
زَادُوهُمۡ
they increased them
غَيۡرَ
other than
تَتۡبِيبٍ
ruin
١٠١
And We did not wrong them, but they wronged themselves. And they were not availed at all by their gods which they invoked other than Allāh when there came the command of your Lord. And they did not increase them in other than ruin.
11:102
وَكَذٰلِكَ
And thus
أَخۡذُ
(is) the seizure (of) your Lord
رَبِّكَ
(is) the seizure (of) your Lord
إِذَآ
when
أَخَذَ
He seizes
ٱلۡقُرَىٰ
the cities
وَهِىَ
while they
ظَـٰلِمَةٌ‌ۚ
(are) doing wrong
إِنَّ
Indeed
أَخۡذَهُۥٓ
His seizure
أَلِيمٌ
(is) painful
شَدِيدٌ
(and) severe
١٠٢
And thus is the seizure of your Lord when He seizes the cities while they are committing wrong. Indeed, His seizure is painful and severe.
11:103
إِنَّ
Indeed
فِى
in
ذٰلِكَ
that
لَأَيَةً
(is) surely a Sign
لِّمَنۡ
for (those) who
خَافَ
fear
عَذَابَ
(the) punishment
ٱلۡأَخِرَةِ‌ۚ
(of) the Hereafter
ذٰلِكَ
That
يَوۡمٌ
(is) a Day
مَّجۡمُوعٌ
(will) be gathered
لَّهُ
on it
ٱلنَّاسُ
the mankind
وَذٰلِكَ
and that
يَوۡمٌ
(is) a Day
مَّشۡهُودٌ
witnessed
١٠٣
Indeed in that is a sign for those who fear the punishment of the Hereafter. That is a Day for which the people will be collected, and that is a Day [which will be] witnessed.
11:104
وَمَا
And not
نُؤَخِّرُهُۥٓ
We delay it
إِلَّا
except
لِأَجَلٍ
for a term
مَّعۡدُودٍ
limited
١٠٤
And We do not delay it except for a limited term.
11:105
يَوۡمَ
(The) Day
يَأۡتِ
(it) comes
لَا
not
تَكَلَّمُ
will speak
نَفۡسٌ
a soul
إِلَّا
except
بِإِذۡنِهِۦ‌ۚ
by His leave
فَمِنۡهُمۡ
Then among them
شَقِىٌّ
(will be the) wretched
وَسَعِيدٌ
and (the) glad
١٠٥
The Day it comes no soul will speak except by His permission. And among them will be the wretched and the prosperous.
11:106
فَأَمَّا
As for
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
شَقُواۡ
were wretched
فَفِى
then (they will be) in
ٱلنَّارِ
the Fire
لَهُمۡ
For them
فِيهَا
therein
زَفِيرٌ
(is) sighing
وَشَهِيقٌ
and wailing
١٠٦
As for those who were [destined to be] wretched, they will be in the Fire. For them therein is [violent] exhaling and inhaling.1
11:107
خَـٰلِدِينَ
(Will be) abiding
فِيهَا
therein
مَا
as long as remain
دَامَتِ
as long as remain
ٱلسَّمَـٰوٰتُ
the heavens
وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ
and the earth
إِلَّا
except
مَا
what your Lord wills
شَآءَ
what your Lord wills
رَبُّكَ‌ۚ
what your Lord wills
إِنَّ
Indeed
رَبَّكَ
your Lord
فَعَّالٌ
(is) All-Accomplisher
لِّمَا
of what
يُرِيدُ
He intends
١٠٧
[They will be] abiding therein as long as the heavens and the earth endure, except what your Lord should will. Indeed, your Lord is an effecter of what He intends.
11:108
۞وَأَمَّا
And as for
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
سُعِدُواۡ
were glad
فَفِى
then (they will be) in
ٱلۡجَنَّةِ
Paradise
خَـٰلِدِينَ
(will be) abiding
فِيهَا
therein
مَا
as long as remains
دَامَتِ
as long as remains
ٱلسَّمَـٰوٰتُ
the heavens
وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ
and the earth
إِلَّا
except
مَا
what your Lord wills
شَآءَ
what your Lord wills
رَبُّكَ‌ۖ
what your Lord wills
عَطَآءً
a bestowal
غَيۡرَ
not
مَجۡذُوذٍ
interrupted
١٠٨
And as for those who were [destined to be] prosperous, they will be in Paradise, abiding therein as long as the heavens and the earth endure, except what your Lord should will - a bestowal uninterrupted.
11:109
فَلَا
So (do) not
تَكُ
be
فِى
in
مِرۡيَةٍ
doubt
مِّمَّا
as to what
يَعۡبُدُ
worship
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ‌ۚ
these (polytheists)
مَا
Not
يَعۡبُدُونَ
they worship
إِلَّا
except
كَمَا
as what
يَعۡبُدُ
worshipped
ءَابَآؤُهُم
their forefathers
مِّن
before
قَبۡلُ‌ۚ
before
وَإِنَّا
And indeed, We
لَمُوَفُّوهُمۡ
will surely pay them in full
نَصِيبَهُمۡ
their share
غَيۡرَ
without
مَنقُوصٍ
being diminished
١٠٩
So do not be in doubt, [O Muḥammad], as to what these [polytheists] are worshipping. They worship not except as their fathers worshipped before. And indeed, We will give them their share undiminished.
11:110
وَلَقَدۡ
And verily
ءَاتَيۡنَا
We gave
مُوسَى
Musa
ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ
the Book
فَٱخۡتُلِفَ
but differences arose
فِيهِ‌ۚ
therein
وَلَوۡلَا
And if not
كَلِمَةٌ
(for) a Word
سَبَقَتۡ
(that) preceded
مِن
from
رَّبِّكَ
your Lord
لَقُضِىَ
surely would have been judged
بَيۡنَهُمۡ‌ۚ
between them
وَإِنَّهُمۡ
And indeed, they
لَفِى
surely (are) in
شَكٍّ
doubt
مِّنۡهُ
concerning it
مُرِيبٍ
suspicious
١١٠
And We had certainly given Moses the Scripture, but it came under disagreement. And if not for a word1 that preceded from your Lord, it would have been judged between them. And indeed they are, concerning it [i.e., the Qur’ān], in disquieting doubt.
11:111
وَإِنَّ
And indeed
كُلاًّ
to each [when]
لَّمَّا
to each [when]
لَيُوَفِّيَنَّهُمۡ
surely will pay them in full
رَبُّكَ
your Lord
أَعۡمَـٰلَهُمۡ‌ۚ
their deeds
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed, He
بِمَا
of what
يَعۡمَلُونَ
they do
خَبِيرٌ
(is) All-Aware
١١١
And indeed, each [of the believers and disbelievers] - your Lord will fully compensate them for their deeds. Indeed, He is Aware of what they do.
11:112
فَٱسۡتَقِمۡ
So stand firm
كَمَآ
as
أُمِرۡتَ
you are commanded
وَمَن
and (those) who
تَابَ
turn (in repentance)
مَعَكَ
with you
وَلَا
and (do) not
تَطۡغَوۡاۡ‌ۚ
transgress
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed, He
بِمَا
of what
تَعۡمَلُونَ
you do
بَصِيرٌ
(is) All-Seer
١١٢
So remain on a right course as you have been commanded, [you] and those who have turned back with you [to Allāh], and do not transgress. Indeed, He is Seeing of what you do.
11:113
وَلَا
And (do) not
تَرۡكَنُوٓاۡ
incline
إِلَى
to
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
ظَلَمُواۡ
do wrong
فَتَمَسَّكُمُ
lest touches you
ٱلنَّارُ
the Fire
وَمَا
and not
لَكُم
(is) for you
مِّن
besides Allah
دُونِ
besides Allah
ٱللَّهِ
besides Allah
مِنۡ
any
أَوۡلِيَآءَ
protectors
ثُمَّ
then
لَا
not
تُنصَرُونَ
you will be helped
١١٣
And do not incline toward those who do wrong, lest you be touched by the Fire, and you would not have other than Allāh any protectors; then you would not be helped.
11:114
وَأَقِمِ
And establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
the prayer
طَرَفَىِ
(at the) two ends
ٱلنَّهَارِ
(of) the day
وَزُلَفًا
and (at) the approach
مِّنَ
of
ٱلَّيۡلِ‌ۚ
the night
إِنَّ
Indeed
ٱلۡحَسَنَـٰتِ
the good deeds
يُذۡهِبۡنَ
remove
ٱلسَّيِّـَٔـاتِ‌ۚ
the evil deeds
ذٰلِكَ
That
ذِكۡرَىٰ
(is) a reminder
لِلذّٰكِرِينَ
for those who remember
١١٤
And establish prayer at the two ends of the day and at the approach of the night. Indeed, good deeds do away with misdeeds. That is a reminder for those who remember.
11:115
وَٱصۡبِرۡ
And be patient
فَإِنَّ
for indeed
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
لَا
(does) not
يُضِيعُ
let go waste
أَجۡرَ
(the) reward
ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ
(of) the good-doers
١١٥
And be patient, for indeed, Allāh does not allow to be lost the reward of those who do good.
11:116
فَلَوۡلَا
So why not
كَانَ
had been
مِنَ
of
ٱلۡقُرُونِ
the generations
مِن
before you
قَبۡلِكُمۡ
before you
أُوۡلُواۡ
those possessing a remnant
بَقِيَّةٍ
those possessing a remnant
يَنۡهَوۡنَ
forbidding
عَنِ
from
ٱلۡفَسَادِ
the corruption
فِى
in
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
the earth
إِلَّا
except
قَلِيلاً
a few
مِّمَّنۡ
of those
أَنجَيۡنَا
We saved
مِنۡهُمۡ‌ۗ
among them
وَٱتَّبَعَ
But followed
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
ظَلَمُواۡ
did wrong
مَآ
what
أُتۡرِفُواۡ
luxury they were given
فِيهِ
therein
وَكَانُواۡ
and they were
مُجۡرِمِينَ
criminals
١١٦
So why were there not1 among the generations before you those of enduring discrimination forbidding corruption on earth - except a few of those We saved from among them? But those who wronged pursued what luxury they were given therein, and they were criminals.
11:117
وَمَا
And not
كَانَ
would
رَبُّكَ
your Lord
لِيُهۡلِكَ
destroy
ٱلۡقُرَىٰ
the cities
بِظُلۡمٍ
unjustly
وَأَهۡلُهَا
while its people
مُصۡلِحُونَ
(were) reformers
١١٧
And your Lord would not have destroyed the cities unjustly while their people were reformers.
11:118
وَلَوۡ
And if
شَآءَ
your Lord (had) willed
رَبُّكَ
your Lord (had) willed
لَجَعَلَ
surely He (could) have made
ٱلنَّاسَ
the mankind
أُمَّةً
one community
وٰحِدَةً‌ۖ
one community
وَلَا
but not
يَزَالُونَ
they will cease
مُخۡتَلِفِينَ
to differ
١١٨
And if your Lord had willed, He could have made mankind one community; but they will not cease to differ,
11:119
إِلَّا
Except
مَن
(on) whom
رَّحِمَ
your Lord has bestowed Mercy
رَبُّكَ‌ۚ
your Lord has bestowed Mercy
وَلِذٰلِكَ
and for that
خَلَقَهُمۡ‌ۗ
He created them
وَتَمَّتۡ
And will be fulfilled
كَلِمَةُ
(the) Word of your Lord
رَبِّكَ
(the) Word of your Lord
لَأَمۡلَأَنَّ
Surely I will fill
جَهَنَّمَ
Hell
مِنَ
with
ٱلۡجِنَّةِ
the Jinn
وَٱلنَّاسِ
and the men
أَجۡمَعِينَ
all together
١١٩
Except whom your Lord has given mercy, and for that He created them. But the word of your Lord is to be fulfilled that, "I will surely fill Hell with jinn and men all together."
11:120
وَكُلاًّ
And each
نَّقُصُّ
We relate
عَلَيۡكَ
to you
مِنۡ
of
أَنۢبَآءِ
(the) news
ٱلرُّسُلِ
(of) the Messengers
مَا
(for) that
نُثَبِّتُ
We may make firm
بِهِۦ
with it
فُؤَادَكَ‌ۚ
your heart
وَجَآءَكَ
And has come to you
فِى
in
هَـٰذِهِ
this
ٱلۡحَقُّ
the truth
وَمَوۡعِظَةٌ
and an admonition
وَذِكۡرَىٰ
and a reminder
لِلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ
for the believers
١٢٠
And each [story] We relate to you from the news of the messengers is that by which We make firm your heart. And there has come to you, in this, the truth and an instruction and a reminder for the believers.
11:121
وَقُل
And say
لِّلَّذِينَ
to those who
لَا
(do) not
يُؤۡمِنُونَ
believe
ٱعۡمَلُواۡ
Work
عَلَىٰ
(according) to
مَكَانَتِكُمۡ
your position
إِنَّا
indeed, we
عَـٰمِلُونَ
(are also) working
١٢١
And say to those who do not believe, "Work according to your position; indeed, we are working.
11:122
وَٱنتَظِرُوٓاۡ
And wait
إِنَّا
indeed, we
مُنتَظِرُونَ
(are) ones who wait
١٢٢
And wait; indeed, we are waiting."
11:123
وَلِلَّهِ
And for Allah
غَيۡبُ
(is the) unseen
ٱلسَّمَـٰوٰتِ
(of) the heavens
وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ
and the earth
وَإِلَيۡهِ
and to Him
يُرۡجَعُ
will be returned
ٱلۡأَمۡرُ
the matter
كُلُّهُۥ
all (of) it
فَٱعۡبُدۡهُ
so worship Him
وَتَوَكَّلۡ
and put your trust
عَلَيۡهِ‌ۚ
upon Him
وَمَا
And your Lord is not
رَبُّكَ
And your Lord is not
بِغَـٰفِلٍ
unaware
عَمَّا
of what
تَعۡمَلُونَ
you do
١٢٣
And to Allāh belong the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth and to Him will be returned the matter, all of it, so worship Him and rely upon Him. And your Lord is not unaware of that which you do.
12:1

١
Alif, Lām, Rā.1 These are the verses of the clear Book.
12:2
إِنَّآ
Indeed, We
أَنزَلۡنَـٰهُ
We have sent it down
قُرۡءٰنًا
(as) a Quran in Arabic
عَرَبِيًّا
(as) a Quran in Arabic
لَّعَلَّكُمۡ

٢
Indeed, We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur’ān1 that you might understand.
12:3
نَحۡنُ
We
نَقُصُّ
relate
عَلَيۡكَ
to you
أَحۡسَنَ
the best
ٱلۡقَصَصِ
of the narrations
بِمَآ
in what
أَوۡحَيۡنَآ
We have revealed
إِلَيۡكَ
to you
هَـٰذَا
(of) this
ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ
the Quran
وَإِن

you were
مِن

ٱلۡغَـٰفِلِينَ

٣
We relate to you, [O Muḥammad], the best of stories in what We have revealed to you of this Qur’ān although you were, before it, among the unaware.
12:4
إِذۡ
When
قَالَ
said
يُوسُفُ
Yusuf
لِأَبِيهِ
to his father
يَـٰٓأَبَتِ
O my father
إِنِّى
Indeed, I
رَأَيۡتُ
I saw
أَحَدَ
eleven
عَشَرَ
eleven
كَوۡكَبًا
stars
وَٱلشَّمۡسَ
and the sun
وَٱلۡقَمَرَ
and the moon
رَأَيۡتُهُمۡ
I saw them
لِى
to me
سَـٰجِدِينَ
prostrating
٤
[Of these stories mention] when Joseph said to his father,1 "O my father, indeed I have seen [in a dream] eleven stars and the sun and the moon; I saw them prostrating to me."
12:5
قَالَ
He said
يَـٰبُنَىَّ
O my son
لَا
(Do) not
تَقۡصُصۡ
relate
رُءۡيَاكَ
your vision
عَلَىٰٓ
to
إِخۡوَتِكَ
your brothers
فَيَكِيدُواۡ
lest they plan
لَكَ

كَيۡدًا‌ۖ
a plot
إِنَّ
Indeed
ٱلشَّيۡطَـٰنَ
the Shaitaan
لِلۡإِنسَـٰنِ
(is) to man
عَدُوٌّ
an enemy
مُّبِينٌ
open
٥
He said, "O my son, do not relate your vision to your brothers or they will contrive against you a plan. Indeed Satan, to man, is a manifest enemy.
12:6
وَكَذٰلِكَ
And thus
يَجۡتَبِيكَ
will choose you
رَبُّكَ
your Lord
وَيُعَلِّمُكَ

(the) interpretation
ٱلۡأَحَادِيثِ
(of) the narratives
وَيُتِمُّ

نِعۡمَتَهُۥ
His Favor
عَلَيۡكَ

وَعَلَىٰٓ
and on

إِنَّ
Indeed
رَبَّكَ
your Lord
عَلِيمٌ
(is) All-Knower
حَكِيمٌ
All-Wise
٦
And thus will your Lord choose you and teach you the interpretation of narratives [i.e., events or dreams] and complete His favor upon you and upon the family of Jacob, as He completed it upon your fathers before, Abraham and Isaac. Indeed, your Lord is Knowing and Wise."
12:7
۞لَّقَدۡ

Certainly were there in Joseph and his brothers signs for those who ask, [such as]
12:8
إِذۡ

When they said, "Joseph and his brother1 are more beloved to our father than we, while we are a clan. Indeed, our father is in clear error.
12:9

Said a speaker among them, "Do not kill Joseph but throw him into the bottom of the well; some travelers will pick him up - if you would do [something]."
12:11
قَالُواۡ
They said
يَـٰٓأَبَانَا
O our father

١١
They said, "O our father, why do you not entrust us with Joseph while indeed, we are to him sincere counselors?
12:12

١٢
Send him with us tomorrow that he may eat well and play. And indeed, we will be his guardians."
12:13
قَالَ
He said
إِنِّى
Indeed, [I]
لَيَحۡزُنُنِىٓ
it surely saddens me
أَن
that
تَذۡهَبُواۡ
you should take him

you should take him

١٣
[Jacob] said, "Indeed, it saddens me that you should take him, and I fear that a wolf would eat him while you are of him unaware."
12:14
قَالُواۡ
They said
لَئِنۡ

إِنَّآ
indeed, we
إِذًا
then
لَّخَـٰسِرُونَ
surely (would be) losers
١٤
They said, "If a wolf should eat him while we are a [strong] clan, indeed, we would then be losers."
12:15
فَلَمَّا
So when
ذَهَبُواۡ
they took him

they took him

about this affair

١٥
So when they took him [out] and agreed to put him into the bottom of the well...1 But We inspired to him, "You will surely inform them [someday] about this affair of theirs while they do not perceive [your identity]."
12:16
وَجَآءُوٓ
And they came
أَبَاهُمۡ

١٦
And they came to their father at night, weeping.
12:17
قَالُواۡ
They said
يَـٰٓأَبَانَآ

١٧
They said, "O our father, indeed we went racing each other and left Joseph with our possessions, and a wolf ate him. But you would not believe us, even if we were truthful."
12:18
وَجَآءُو
And they brought

He said

١٨
And they brought upon his shirt false blood.1 [Jacob] said, "Rather, your souls have enticed you to something, so patience is most fitting. And Allāh is the one sought for help against that which you describe."
12:19
وَجَآءَتۡ
And there came
سَيَّارَةٌ
a caravan
فَأَرۡسَلُواۡ
and they sent
وَارِدَهُمۡ
their water drawer
فَأَدۡلَىٰ
then he let down
دَلۡوَهُۥ‌ۖ
his bucket
قَالَ
He said
يَـٰبُشۡرَىٰ
O good news

١٩
And there came a company of travelers; then they sent their water drawer, and he let down his bucket. He said, "Good news! Here is a boy." And they concealed him, [taking him] as merchandise;1 and Allāh was Knowing of what they did.
12:20
وَشَرَوۡهُ
And they sold him
بِثَمَنِۭ

about him
مِنَ

ٱلزّٰهِدِينَ
those keen to give up
٢٠
And they sold him for a reduced price - a few dirhams - and they were, concerning him, of those content with little.
12:21
وَقَالَ
And said

or
نَتَّخِذَهُۥ
we will take him

وَكَذٰلِكَ
And thus
مَكَّنَّا
We established
لِيُوسُفَ
Yusuf
فِى
in
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
the land
وَلِنُعَلِّمَهُۥ
that We might teach him
مِن
(the) interpretation of
تَأۡوِيلِ
(the) interpretation of
ٱلۡأَحَادِيثِ‌ۚ
the events
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
غَالِبٌ
(is) Predominant
عَلَىٰٓ
over
أَمۡرِهِۦ
His affairs
وَلَـٰكِنَّ
but
أَكۡثَرَ
most
ٱلنَّاسِ

لَا
(do) not
يَعۡلَمُونَ

٢١
And the one from Egypt1 who bought him said to his wife, "Make his residence comfortable. Perhaps he will benefit us, or we will adopt him as a son." And thus, We established Joseph in the land that We might teach him the interpretation of events [i.e., dreams]. And Allāh is predominant over His affair, but most of the people do not know.
12:22
وَلَمَّا
And when
بَلَغَ
he reached
أَشُدَّهُۥٓ
his maturity
ءَاتَيۡنَـٰهُ
We gave him
حُكۡمًا
wisdom

and knowledge
وَكَذٰلِكَ
And thus
نَجۡزِى
We reward
ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ
the good-doers
٢٢
And when he [i.e., Joseph] reached maturity, We gave him judgement and knowledge. And thus We reward the doers of good.
12:23
وَرٰوَدَتۡهُ
And sought to seduce him
ٱلَّتِى
she who
هُوَ
he (was)

And she closed
ٱلۡأَبۡوٰبَ
the doors
وَقَالَتۡ
and she said
هَيۡتَ
Come on
لَكَ‌ۚ
you
قَالَ
He said
مَعَاذَ
I seek refuge in Allah
ٱللَّهِ‌ۖ
I seek refuge in Allah
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed, he
رَبِّىٓ
(is) my lord
أَحۡسَنَ
(who has) made good
مَثۡوَاىَ‌ۖ
my stay
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed
لَا
not
يُفۡلِحُ
will succeed
ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ
the wrongdoers
٢٣
And she, in whose house he was, sought to seduce him. She closed the doors and said, "Come, you." He said, "[I seek] the refuge of Allāh. Indeed, he1 is my master, who has made good my residence. Indeed, wrongdoers will not succeed."
12:24
وَلَقَدۡ
And certainly
هَمَّتۡ
she did desire
بِهِۦ‌ۖ
him
وَهَمَّ
and he would have desired
بِهَا
her
لَوۡلَآ
if not
أَن
that
رَّءَا
he saw
بُرۡهَـٰنَ
the proof
رَبِّهِۦ‌ۚ
(of) his Lord
كَذٰلِكَ
Thus
لِنَصۡرِفَ
that We might avert
عَنۡهُ
from him
ٱلسُّوٓءَ
the evil
وَٱلۡفَحۡشَآءَ‌ۚ
and the immorality
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed, he
مِنۡ
(was) of
عِبَادِنَا
Our slaves
ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ
the sincere
٢٤
And she certainly determined [to seduce] him, and he would have inclined to her had he not seen the proof [i.e., sign] of his Lord. And thus [it was] that We should avert from him evil and immorality. Indeed, he was of Our chosen servants.
12:25
وَٱسۡتَبَقَا
And they both raced
ٱلۡبَابَ
(to) the door
وَقَدَّتۡ
and she tore
قَمِيصَهُۥ
his shirt
مِن
from
دُبُرٍ
the back
وَأَلۡفَيَا
and they both found
سَيِّدَهَا
her husband
لَدَا
at
ٱلۡبَابِ‌ۚ
the door
قَالَتۡ
She said
مَا
What
جَزَآءُ
(is) the recompense
مَنۡ
(of one) who
أَرَادَ
intended
بِأَهۡلِكَ
for your wife
سُوٓءًا
evil
إِلَّآ
except
أَن
that
يُسۡجَنَ
he be imprisoned
أَوۡ
or
عَذَابٌ
a punishment
أَلِيمٌ
painful
٢٥
And they both raced to the door, and she tore his shirt from the back, and they found her husband at the door. She said, "What is the recompense of one who intended evil for your wife but that he be imprisoned or a painful punishment?"
12:26
قَالَ
He said
هِىَ
She
رٰوَدَتۡنِى
sought to seduce me
عَن
about
نَّفۡسِى‌ۚ
myself
وَشَهِدَ
And testified
شَاهِدٌ
a witness
مِّنۡ
of
أَهۡلِهَآ
her family
إِن
If
كَانَ
[is]
قَمِيصُهُۥ
his shirt
قُدَّ

مِن
from
قُبُلٍ
the front
فَصَدَقَتۡ
then she has spoken the truth
وَهُوَ
and he
مِنَ
(is) of
ٱلۡكَـٰذِبِينَ
the liars
٢٦
[Joseph] said, "It was she who sought to seduce me." And a witness from her family testified, "If his shirt is torn from the front, then she has told the truth, and he is of the liars.
12:27
وَإِن
But if
كَانَ
[is]
قَمِيصُهُۥ
his shirt
قُدَّ
(is) torn
مِن
from
دُبُرٍ
(the) back
فَكَذَبَتۡ
then she has lied
وَهُوَ
and he
مِنَ
(is) of
ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ
the truthful
٢٧
But if his shirt is torn from the back, then she has lied, and he is of the truthful."
12:28
فَلَمَّا
So when
رَءَا
he saw
قَمِيصَهُۥ
his shirt
قُدَّ
torn
مِن
from
دُبُرٍ
(the) back
قَالَ
he said
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed, it

كَيۡدِكُنَّ‌ۖ
your plot
إِنَّ
Indeed
كَيۡدَكُنَّ
your plot
عَظِيمٌ
(is) great
٢٨
So when he [i.e., her husband] saw his shirt torn from the back, he said, "Indeed, it is of your [i.e., women's] plan. Indeed, your plan is great [i.e., vehement].
12:29
يُوسُفُ
Yusuf
أَعۡرِضۡ
turn away
عَنۡ
from
هَـٰذَا‌ۚ
this
وَٱسۡتَغۡفِرِى
And ask forgiveness
لِذَنۢبِكِ‌ۖ
for your sin
إِنَّكِ
Indeed, you
كُنتِ
are
مِنَ
of
ٱلۡخَاطِــِٔينَ
the sinful
٢٩
Joseph, ignore this.1 And, [my wife], ask forgiveness for your sin. Indeed, you were of the sinful."
12:30
۞وَقَالَ
And said
نِسۡوَةٌ
women
فِى
in
ٱلۡمَدِينَةِ
the city
ٱمۡرَأَتُ
The wife of
ٱلۡعَزِيزِ
Aziz
تُرٰوِدُ
(is) seeking to seduce
فَتَـٰهَا
her slave boy
عَن
about
نَّفۡسِهِۦ‌ۖ
himself
قَدۡ
indeed
شَغَفَهَا
he has impassioned her
حُبًّا‌ۖ
(with) love
إِنَّا
Indeed, we
لَنَرَٮٰهَا
[we] surely see her
فِى
in
ضَلَـٰلٍ
an error
مُّبِينٍ
clear
٣٠
And women in the city said, "The wife of al-ʿAzeez is seeking to seduce her slave boy; he has impassioned her with love. Indeed, we see her [to be] in clear error."
12:31
فَلَمَّا
So when
سَمِعَتۡ
she heard
بِمَكۡرِهِنَّ
of their scheming
أَرۡسَلَتۡ
she sent
إِلَيۡهِنَّ
for them
وَأَعۡتَدَتۡ
and she prepared
لَهُنَّ
for them
مُتَّكَــًٔا
a banquet
وَءَاتَتۡ
and she gave
كُلَّ
each
وٰحِدَةٍ
one
مِّنۡهُنَّ
of them
سِكِّينًا
a knife
وَقَالَتِ
and she said
ٱخۡرُجۡ
Come out
عَلَيۡهِنَّ‌ۖ
before them
فَلَمَّا
Then when
رَأَيۡنَهُۥٓ
they saw him
أَكۡبَرۡنَهُۥ
they greatly admired him
وَقَطَّعۡنَ
and cut
أَيۡدِيَهُنَّ
their hands
وَقُلۡنَ
they said
حَـٰشَ
Forbid
لِلَّهِ
Allah
مَا
not
هَـٰذَا
(is) this
بَشَرًا
a man
إِنۡ
not
هَـٰذَآ
(is) this
إِلَّا
but
مَلَكٌ
an angel
كَرِيمٌ
noble
٣١
So when she heard of their scheming, she sent for them and prepared for them a banquet and gave each one of them a knife and said [to Joseph], "Come out before them." And when they saw him, they greatly admired him and cut their hands1 and said, "Perfect is Allāh!2 This is not a man; this is none but a noble angel."
12:32
قَالَتۡ
She said
فَذٰلِكُنَّ
That
ٱلَّذِى
(is) the one
لُمۡتُنَّنِى
you blamed me
فِيهِ‌ۖ
about him
وَلَقَدۡ
And certainly
رٰوَدتُّهُۥ
I sought to seduce him
عَن
[from]
نَّفۡسِهِۦ
[himself]
فَٱسۡتَعۡصَمَ‌ۖ
but he saved himself
وَلَئِن
and if
لَّمۡ
not
يَفۡعَلۡ
he does
مَآ
what
ءَامُرُهُۥ
I order him
لَيُسۡجَنَنَّ
surely, he will be imprisoned
وَلَيَكُونًا
and certainly will be
مِّنَ
of
ٱلصَّـٰغِرِينَ
those who are disgraced
٣٢
She said, "That is the one about whom you blamed me. And I certainly sought to seduce him, but he firmly refused; and if he will not do what I order him, he will surely be imprisoned and will be of those debased."
12:33
قَالَ
He said
رَبِّ
My Lord
ٱلسِّجۡنُ
the prison
أَحَبُّ
(is) dearer
إِلَىَّ
to me
مِمَّا
than what
يَدۡعُونَنِىٓ
they invite me
إِلَيۡهِ‌ۖ
to it
وَإِلَّا
And unless
تَصۡرِفۡ
You turn away
عَنِّى
from me
كَيۡدَهُنَّ
their plot
أَصۡبُ
I might incline
إِلَيۡهِنَّ
towards them
وَأَكُن
and [I] be
مِّنَ
of
ٱلۡجَـٰهِلِينَ
the ignorant
٣٣
He said, "My Lord, prison is more to my liking than that to which they invite me. And if You do not avert from me their plan, I might incline toward them and [thus] be of the ignorant."
12:34
فَٱسۡتَجَابَ
So responded
لَهُۥ
to him
رَبُّهُۥ
his Lord
فَصَرَفَ
and turned away
عَنۡهُ
from him
كَيۡدَهُنَّ‌ۚ
their plot
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed, [He]
هُوَ
He
ٱلسَّمِيعُ
(is) All-Hearer
ٱلۡعَلِيمُ
All-Knower
٣٤
So his Lord responded to him and averted from him their plan. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing.
12:35
ثُمَّ
Then
بَدَا
(it) appeared
لَهُم
to them
مِّنۢ
after
بَعۡدِ
after
مَا
[what]
رَأَوُاۡ
they had seen
ٱلۡأَيَـٰتِ
the signs
لَيَسۡجُنُنَّهُۥ
surely they should imprison him
حَتَّىٰ
until
حِينٍ
a time
٣٥
Then it appeared to them after they had seen the signs1 that he [i.e., al-ʿAzeez] should surely imprison him for a time.2
12:36
وَدَخَلَ
And entered
مَعَهُ
with him
ٱلسِّجۡنَ
(in) the prison
فَتَيَانِ‌ۖ
two young men
قَالَ
Said
أَحَدُهُمَآ

the other
إِنِّىٓ
Indeed, I
أَرَٮٰنِىٓ
[I] see myself

the good-doers
٣٦
And there entered the prison with him two young men. One of them said, "Indeed, I have seen myself [in a dream] pressing [grapes for] wine." The other said, "Indeed, I have seen myself carrying upon my head [some] bread, from which the birds were eating. Inform us of its interpretation; indeed, we see you to be of those who do good."
12:37
قَالَ
He said

[it] comes to both of you
ذٰلِكُمَا
That

my Lord
إِنِّى
Indeed, I

(are) disbelievers
٣٧
He said, "You will not receive food that is provided to you except that I will inform you of its interpretation before it comes to you. That is from what my Lord has taught me. Indeed, I have left the religion of a people who do not believe in Allāh, and they, in the Hereafter, are disbelievers.
12:38
