and reject
ءَاخِرَهُۥ
(at) its end
لَعَلَّهُمۡ
perhaps they may
يَرۡجِعُونَ
return
٧٢
And a faction of the People of the Scripture say [to each other], "Believe in that which was revealed to the believers at the beginning of the day and reject it at its end that perhaps they will return [i.e., abandon their religion],
3:73

And do not trust except those who follow your religion." Say, "Indeed, the [true] guidance is the guidance of Allāh. [Do you fear] lest someone be given [knowledge] like you were given or that they would [thereby] argue with you before your Lord?" Say, "Indeed, [all] bounty is in the hand1 of Allāh - He grants it to whom He wills. And Allāh is all-Encompassing and Wise."
3:74
يَخۡتَصُّ

٧٤
He selects for His mercy whom He wills. And Allāh is the possessor of great bounty.
3:75
۞وَمِنۡ

ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ
(of) the Book
مَنۡ
(is he) who

تَأۡمَنۡهُ
you entrust him
بِقِنطَارٍ
with a great amount of wealth
يُؤَدِّهِۦٓ
he will return it
إِلَيۡكَ
to you
وَمِنۡهُم
And from them
مَّنۡ
(is he) who
إِن
if
تَأۡمَنۡهُ
you entrust him
بِدِينَارٍ
with a single coin
لَّا
not
يُؤَدِّهِۦٓ
he will return it
إِلَيۡكَ
to you
إِلَّا
except
مَا
that
دُمۡتَ
you keep constantly
عَلَيۡهِ
over him
قَآئِمًا‌ۗ
standing
ذٰلِكَ
That
بِأَنَّهُمۡ
(is) because they
قَالُواۡ
said
لَيۡسَ
Not
عَلَيۡنَا
on us
فِى
concerning
ٱلۡأُمِّيِّــۧنَ
the unlettered people
سَبِيلٌ
any [way] (accountability)
وَيَقُولُونَ
And they say
عَلَى
about
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
ٱلۡكَذِبَ
the lie
وَهُمۡ
while they
يَعۡلَمُونَ
know
٧٥
And among the People of the Scripture is he who, if you entrust him with a great amount [of wealth], he will return it to you. And among them is he who, if you entrust him with a [single] coin, he will not return it to you unless you are constantly standing over him [demanding it]. That is because they say, "There is no blame upon us concerning the unlearned."1 And they speak untruth about Allāh while they know [it].
3:76
بَلَىٰ
Nay
مَنۡ
whoever
أَوۡفَىٰ
fulfills
بِعَهۡدِهِۦ
his covenant
وَٱتَّقَىٰ
and fears (Allah)
فَإِنَّ
then indeed
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
يُحِبُّ
loves
ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ
those who fear (Him)
٧٦
But yes, whoever fulfills his commitment and fears Allāh - then indeed, Allāh loves those who fear Him.
3:77
إِنَّ
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
يَشۡتَرُونَ
exchange
بِعَهۡدِ
(the) Covenant
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
وَأَيۡمَـٰنِهِمۡ
and their oaths
ثَمَنًا
(for) a price
قَلِيلاً
little
أُوۡلَـٰٓئِكَ
those
لَا
no
خَلَـٰقَ
share
لَهُمۡ
for them
فِى
in
ٱلۡأَخِرَةِ
the Hereafter
وَلَا
and not
يُكَلِّمُهُمُ
will speak to them
ٱللَّهُ
Allah
وَلَا
and not
يَنظُرُ

إِلَيۡهِمۡ
at them
يَوۡمَ
(on the) Day
ٱلۡقِيَـٰمَةِ
(of) the Resurrection
وَلَا
and not
يُزَكِّيهِمۡ
purify them
وَلَهُمۡ
and for them
عَذَابٌ
(is) a punishment
أَلِيمٌ
painful
٧٧
Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allāh and their [own] oaths for a small price will have no share in the Hereafter, and Allāh will not speak to them or look at them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them; and they will have a painful punishment.
3:78
وَإِنَّ
And indeed
مِنۡهُمۡ
among them
لَفَرِيقًا
surely (is) a group
يَلۡوُۥنَ
they distort
أَلۡسِنَتَهُم
their tongues
بِٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ
in (reciting) the Book
لِتَحۡسَبُوهُ
so that you may think it
مِنَ
(is) from
ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ
the Book
وَمَا
and not
هُوَ
it
مِنَ
(is) from
ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ
the Book
وَيَقُولُونَ
And they say
هُوَ
It
مِنۡ
(is)
عِندِ
from
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
وَمَا
But not
هُوَ
it
مِنۡ
(is)
عِندِ
from
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
وَيَقُولُونَ
And they say
عَلَى
about
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
ٱلۡكَذِبَ
the lie
وَهُمۡ
while they
يَعۡلَمُونَ
know
٧٨
And indeed, there is among them a party who alter the Scripture with their tongues so you may think it is from the Scripture, but it is not from the Scripture. And they say, "This is from Allāh," but it is not from Allāh. And they speak untruth about Allāh while they know.
3:79
مَا
Not
كَانَ
is
لِبَشَرٍ
for a human
أَن
that
يُؤۡتِيَهُ
gives him
ٱللَّهُ
Allah
ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ
the Book
وَٱلۡحُكۡمَ
and the wisdom
وَٱلنُّبُوَّةَ
and the Prophethood
ثُمَّ
then
يَقُولَ
he says
لِلنَّاسِ
to the people
كُونُواۡ
Be
عِبَادًا
worshippers
لِّى
of me
مِن
from
دُونِ
besides
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
وَلَـٰكِن
but (would say)
كُونُواۡ
Be
رَبَّـٰنِيِّــۧنَ
worshippers of the Lord
بِمَا
because
كُنتُمۡ
you have been
تُعَلِّمُونَ
teaching
ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ
the Book
وَبِمَا
and because
كُنتُمۡ
you have been
تَدۡرُسُونَ
studying (it)
٧٩
It is not for a human [prophet]1 that Allāh should give him the Scripture2 and authority and prophethood and then he would say to the people, "Be servants to me rather than Allāh," but [instead, he would say], "Be pious scholars of the Lord because of what you have taught of the Scripture and because of what you have studied."
3:80
وَلَا
And not
يَأۡمُرَكُمۡ
he will order you
أَن
that
تَتَّخِذُواۡ
you take
ٱلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ
the Angels
وَٱلنَّبِيِّــۧنَ
and the Prophets
أَرۡبَابًا‌ۗ
(as) lords
أَيَأۡمُرُكُم
Would he order you
بِٱلۡكُفۡرِ
to [the] disbelief
بَعۡدَ
after
إِذۡ
[when]
أَنتُم
you (have become)
مُّسۡلِمُونَ
Muslims
٨٠
Nor could he order you to take the angels and prophets as lords. Would he order you to disbelief after you had been Muslims?
