2:261
مَّثَلُ
Example
ٱلَّذِينَ
(of) those who
يُنفِقُونَ
spend
أَمۡوٰلَهُمۡ
their wealth
فِى
in
سَبِيلِ
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
كَمَثَلِ
(is) like
حَبَّةٍ
a grain
أَنۢبَتَتۡ
which grows
سَبۡعَ
seven
سَنَابِلَ
ears
فِى
in
كُلِّ
each
سُنۢبُلَةٍ
ear
مِّاۡئَةُ
hundred
حَبَّةٍ‌ۗ
grain(s)
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
يُضَـٰعِفُ
gives manifold
لِمَن
to whom
يَشَآءُ‌ۗ
He wills
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
وٰسِعٌ
(is) All-Encompassing
عَلِيمٌ
All-Knowing
٢٦١
The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allāh is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allāh multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allāh is all-Encompassing and Knowing.
2:262
ٱلَّذِينَ
Those who
يُنفِقُونَ
spend
أَمۡوٰلَهُمۡ
their wealth
فِى
in
سَبِيلِ
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
ثُمَّ
then
لَا
not
يُتۡبِعُونَ
they follow
مَآ
what
أَنفَقُواۡ
they spend
مَنًّا
(with) reminders of generosity
وَلَآ
and not
أَذًى‌ۙ
hurt
لَّهُمۡ
for them
أَجۡرُهُمۡ
their reward
عِندَ
(is) with
رَبِّهِمۡ
their Lord
وَلَا
and (there will be) no
خَوۡفٌ
fear
عَلَيۡهِمۡ
on them
وَلَا
and not
هُمۡ
they
يَحۡزَنُونَ
will grieve
٢٦٢
Those who spend their wealth in the way of Allāh and then do not follow up what they have spent with reminders [of it] or [other] injury will have their reward with their Lord, and there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.
2:263
۞قَوۡلٌ
A word
مَّعۡرُوفٌ
kind
وَمَغۡفِرَةٌ
and (seeking) forgiveness
خَيۡرٌ
(are) better
مِّن
than
صَدَقَةٍ
a charity
يَتۡبَعُهَآ
followed [it]
أَذًى‌ۗ
(by) hurt
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
غَنِىٌّ
(is) All-Sufficient
حَلِيمٌ
All-Forbearing
٢٦٣
Kind speech and forgiveness are better than charity followed by injury. And Allāh is Free of need and Forbearing.
2:264
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
O you
ٱلَّذِينَ
who
ءَامَنُواۡ
believe[d]
لَا
(Do) not
تُبۡطِلُواۡ
render in vain
صَدَقَـٰتِكُم
your charities
بِٱلۡمَنِّ
with reminders (of it)
وَٱلۡأَذَىٰ
or [the] hurt
كَٱلَّذِى
like the one who
يُنفِقُ
spends
مَالَهُۥ
his wealth
رِئَآءَ
(to) be seen
ٱلنَّاسِ
(by) the people
وَلَا
and (does) not
يُؤۡمِنُ
believe
بِٱللَّهِ
in Allah
وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ
and the Day
ٱلۡأَخِرِ‌ۖ
[the] Last
فَمَثَلُهُۥ
Then his example
كَمَثَلِ
(is) like
صَفۡوَانٍ
(that of a) smooth rock
عَلَيۡهِ
upon it
تُرَابٌ
(is) dust
فَأَصَابَهُۥ
then fell on it
وَابِلٌ
heavy rain
فَتَرَكَهُۥ
then left it
صَلۡدًا‌ۖ
bare
لَّا
Not
يَقۡدِرُونَ
they have control
عَلَىٰ
on
شَىۡءٍ
anything
مِّمَّا
of what
كَسَبُواۡ‌ۗ
they (have) earned
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
لَا
(does) not
يَهۡدِى
guide
ٱلۡقَوۡمَ
the people
ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِينَ
[the] disbelieving
٢٦٤
O you who have believed, do not invalidate your charities with reminders [of it] or injury as does one who spends his wealth [only] to be seen by the people and does not believe in Allāh and the Last Day. His example is like that of a [large] smooth stone upon which is dust and is hit by a downpour that leaves it bare. They are unable [to keep] anything of what they have earned. And Allāh does not guide the disbelieving people.
2:265
وَمَثَلُ
And (the) example
ٱلَّذِينَ
(of) those who
يُنفِقُونَ
spend
أَمۡوٰلَهُمُ
their wealth
ٱبۡتِغَآءَ
seeking
مَرۡضَاتِ
(the) pleasure
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
وَتَثۡبِيتًا
and certainty
مِّنۡ
from
أَنفُسِهِمۡ
their (inner) souls
كَمَثَلِ
(is) like
جَنَّةِۭ
a garden
بِرَبۡوَةٍ
on a height
أَصَابَهَا
fell on it
وَابِلٌ
heavy rain
فَـَٔـاتَتۡ
so it yielded
أُكُلَهَا
its harvest
ضِعۡفَيۡنِ
double
فَإِن
Then if
لَّمۡ
(does) not
يُصِبۡهَا
fall (on) it
وَابِلٌ
heavy rain
فَطَلٌّ‌ۗ
then a drizzle
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
بِمَا
of what
تَعۡمَلُونَ
you do
بَصِيرٌ
(is) All-Seer
٢٦٥
And the example of those who spend their wealth seeking means to the approval of Allāh and assuring [reward for] themselves is like a garden on high ground which is hit by a downpour - so it yields its fruits in double. And [even] if it is not hit by a downpour, then a drizzle [is sufficient]. And Allāh, of what you do, is Seeing.
2:266
أَيَوَدُّ
Would like
أَحَدُكُمۡ
any of you
أَن
that
تَكُونَ
it be
لَهُۥ
for him
جَنَّةٌ
a garden
مِّن
of
نَّخِيلٍ
date-palms
وَأَعۡنَابٍ
and grapevines
تَجۡرِى
flowing
مِن
[from]
تَحۡتِهَا
underneath it
ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُ
the rivers
لَهُۥ
for him
فِيهَا
in it
مِن
of
كُلِّ
all (kinds)
ٱلثَّمَرٰتِ
(of) [the] fruits
وَأَصَابَهُ
and strikes him
ٱلۡكِبَرُ
[the] old age
وَلَهُۥ
and [for] his
ذُرِّيَّةٌ
children
ضُعَفَآءُ
(are) weak
فَأَصَابَهَآ
then falls on it
إِعۡصَارٌ
whirlwind
فِيهِ
in it
نَارٌ
(is) fire
فَٱحۡتَرَقَتۡ‌ۗ
then it is burnt
كَذٰلِكَ
Thus
يُبَيِّنُ
makes clear
ٱللَّهُ
Allah
لَكُمُ
for you
ٱلۡأَيَـٰتِ
(His) Signs
لَعَلَّكُمۡ
so that you may
تَتَفَكَّرُونَ
ponder
٢٦٦
Would one of you like to have a garden of palm trees and grapevines underneath which rivers flow in which he has from every fruit? But he is afflicted with old age and has weak [i.e., immature] offspring, and it is hit by a whirlwind containing fire and is burned. Thus does Allāh make clear to you [His] verses that you might give thought.
