1 Surahs13 Versesركوع 273
20:77
وَلَقَدۡ
And verily
أَوۡحَيۡنَآ
We inspired
إِلَىٰ
to
مُوسَىٰٓ
Musa
أَنۡ
that
أَسۡرِ
Travel by night
بِعِبَادِى
with My slaves
فَٱ ضۡرِبۡ
and strike
لَهُمۡ
for them
طَرِيقًا
a path
in
the sea
يَبَسًا
dry
not
تَخَـٰ فُ
fearing
دَرَكًا
to be overtaken
and not
تَخۡشَىٰ
٧٧being afraid
And We had inspired to Moses, "Travel by night with My servants and strike for them a dry path through the sea; you will not fear being overtaken [by Pharaoh] nor be afraid [of drowning]."
20:78
فَأَتۡبَعَهُمۡ
Then followed them
فِرۡعَوۡنُ
Firaun
بِجُنُودِهِۦ
with his forces
فَغَشِيَهُم
but covered them
from
the sea
مَا
what
غَشِيَهُمۡ
٧٨covered them
So Pharaoh pursued them with his soldiers, and there covered them from the sea that which covered them,1
20:79
وَأَضَلَّ
And led astray
فِرۡعَوۡنُ
Firaun
قَوۡمَهُۥ
his people
وَمَا
and (did) not
هَدَىٰ
٧٩guide them
And Pharaoh led his people astray and did not guide [them].
20:80
يَـٰ بَنِىٓ
O Children of Israel
إِسۡرٰ ٓءِيلَ
O Children of Israel
قَدۡ
Verily
أَنج َيۡنَـٰ كُم
We delivered you
from
عَدُوِّكُمۡ
your enemy
وَوٰ عَدۡ نَـٰ كُمۡ
and We made a covenant with you
جَانِبَ
on (the) side
(of) the Mount
the right
وَنَزَّلۡنَا
and We sent down
عَلَيۡكُمُ
to you
the Manna
وَٱ ل سَّلۡوَىٰ
٨٠and the quails
O Children of Israel, We delivered you from your enemy, and We made an appointment with you1 at the right side of the mount, and We sent down to you manna and quails,
20:81
كُلُواۡ
Eat
مِن
of
(the) good things
مَا
which
رَزَقۡ نَـٰ كُمۡ
We have provided you
وَلَا
and (do) not
تَطۡ غَوۡاۡ
transgress
فِيهِ
therein
فَيَحِلَّ
lest should descend
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
upon you
غَضَبِىۖ
My Anger
وَمَن
And whoever
on whom descends
عَلَيۡهِ
on whom descends
غَضَبِى
My Anger
فَقَدۡ
indeed
هَوَىٰ
٨١he (has) perished
[Saying], "Eat from the good things with which We have provided you and do not transgress [or oppress others] therein, lest My anger should descend upon you. And he upon whom My anger descends has certainly fallen [i.e., perished]."
20:82
وَإِنّ ِى
But indeed, I Am
لَغَفَّارٌ
the Perpetual Forgiver
of whoever
repents
وَءَامَنَ
and believes
وَعَمِلَ
and does
صَـٰ لِحًا
righteous (deeds)
then
remains guided
But indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance.
20:83
۞وَمَآ
And what
أَعۡجَلَكَ
made you hasten
عَن
from
your people
يَـٰ مُوسَىٰ
٨٣O Musa
[Allāh said], "And what made you hasten from your people, O Moses?"
20:84
قَالَ
He said
هُمۡ
They
أُوۡ لَا ٓءِ
(are) close
عَلَىٰٓ
upon
أَثَرِى
my tracks
وَعَجِلۡتُ
and I hastened
إِلَيۡكَ
to you
رَبِّ
my Lord
لِتَرۡضَىٰ
٨٤that You be pleased
He said, "They are close upon my tracks, and I hastened to You, my Lord, that You be pleased."
20:85
قَالَ
He said
فَإِنّ َا
But indeed, We
قَدۡ
[verily]
فَتَنّ َا
We (have) tried
قَوۡمَكَ
your people
مِنۢ
after you
after you
وَأَضَلَّهُمُ
and has led them astray
the Samiri
[Allāh] said, "But indeed, We have tried your people after you [departed], and the Sāmirī1 has led them astray."
20:86
فَرَجَعَ
Then Musa returned
مُوسَىٰٓ
Then Musa returned
إِلَىٰ
to
قَوۡمِهِۦ
his people
غَضۡبَـٰ نَ
angry
أَسِفًاۚ
(and) sorrowful
He said
يَـٰ قَوۡمِ
O my people
أَلَمۡ
Did not
يَعِدۡ كُمۡ
promise you
رَبُّكُمۡ
your Lord
وَعۡدًا
a promise
حَسَنًاۚ
good
أَفَطَالَ
Then, did seem long
عَلَيۡكُمُ
to you
the promise
أَمۡ
or
أَرَد تُّمۡ
did you desire
أَن
that
descend
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
upon you
غَضَبٌ
(the) Anger
of
your Lord
فَأَخۡلَفۡتُم
so you broke
(the) promise to me
So Moses returned to his people, angry and grieved.1 He said, "O my people, did your Lord not make you a good promise?2 Then, was the time [of its fulfillment] too long for you, or did you wish that wrath from your Lord descend upon you, so you broke your promise [of obedience] to me?"
20:87
قَالُواۡ
They said
مَآ
Not
أَخۡلَفۡنَا
we broke
مَوۡعِدَكَ
promise to you
بِمَلۡكِنَا
by our will
وَلَـٰ كِنّ َا
but we
حُمّ ِلۡنَآ
[we] were made to carry
أَوۡزَارًا
burdens
from
ornaments
(of) the people
فَقَذَفۡنَـٰ هَا
so we threw them
فَكَذٰ لِكَ
and thus
أَلۡقَى
threw
the Samiri
They said, "We did not break our promise to you by our will, but we were made to carry burdens from the ornaments of the people [of Pharaoh], so we threw them [into the fire], and thus did the Sāmirī throw."
20:88
فَأَخۡرَجَ
Then he brought forth
لَهُمۡ
for them
عِجۡ لاً
a calf's
body
it had
خُوَارٌ
a lowing sound
and they said
هَـٰ ذَآ
This
إِلَـٰ هُكُمۡ
(is) your god
وَإِلَـٰ هُ
and the god
مُوسَىٰ
(of) Musa
فَنَسِىَ
٨٨but he forgot
And he extracted for them [the statue of] a calf which had a lowing sound, and they said, "This is your god and the god of Moses, but he forgot."
20:89
أَفَلَا
Then, did not
يَرَوۡنَ
they see
أَلَّا
that not
يَرۡجِعُ
it (could) return
إِلَيۡهِمۡ
to them
قَوۡلاً
a word
and not
يَمۡلِكُ
possess
لَهُمۡ
for them
ضَرًّا
any harm
and not
نَفۡعًا
٨٩any benefit
Did they not see that it could not return to them any speech [i.e., response] and that it did not possess for them any harm or benefit?
