1 Surahs14 Versesركوع 194
12:7
۞لَّقَدۡ
Certainly
كَانَ
were
فِى
in
يُوسُفَ
Yusuf
وَإِخۡوَتِهِۦٓ
and his brothers
ءَايَـٰ تٌ
signs
for those who ask
Certainly were there in Joseph and his brothers signs for those who ask, [such as]
12:8
إِذۡ
When
قَالُواۡ
they said
لَيُوسُفُ
Surely Yusuf
وَأَخُوهُ
and his brother
أَحَبُّ
(are) more beloved
إِلَىٰٓ
to
أَبِينَا
our father
مِنّ َا
than we
وَنَحۡنُ
while we
عُصۡبَةٌ
(are) a group
إِنّ َ
Indeed
أَبَانَا
our father
لَفِى
(is) surely in
ضَلَـٰ لٍ
an error
clear
When they said, "Joseph and his brother1 are more beloved to our father than we, while we are a clan. Indeed, our father is in clear error.
12:9
ٱقۡ تُلُواۡ
Kill
يُوسُفَ
Yusuf
أَوِ
or
cast him
أَرۡضًا
(to) a land
so will be free
لَكُمۡ
for you
وَجۡ هُ
(the) face
أَبِيكُمۡ
(of) your father
وَتَكُونُواۡ
and you will be
مِنۢ
after that
after that
قَوۡمًا
a people
righteous
Kill Joseph or cast him out to [another] land; the countenance [i.e., attention] of your father will [then] be only for you, and you will be after that a righteous people."1
12:10
قَالَ
Said
قَا ٓئِلٌ
a speaker
among them
لَا
(Do) not
تَقۡ تُلُواۡ
kill
يُوسُفَ
Yusuf
وَأَلۡقُوهُ
but throw him
فِى
in
غَيَـٰ بَتِ
the bottom
(of) the well
يَلۡتَقِطۡ هُ
will pick him
بَعۡضُ
some
[the] caravan
إِن
if
you are
فَـٰ عِلِي نَ
١٠doing
Said a speaker among them, "Do not kill Joseph but throw him into the bottom of the well; some travelers will pick him up - if you would do [something]."
12:11
قَالُواۡ
They said
يَـٰٓ أَبَانَا
O our father
مَا
Why
لَكَ
(do) you
لَا
not
تَأۡمَ۫نّ َا
trust us
عَلَىٰ
with
يُوسُفَ
Yusuf
وَإِنّ َا
while indeed, we
لَهُۥ
(are) for him
لَنَـٰ صِحُو نَ
١١surely well-wishers
They said, "O our father, why do you not entrust us with Joseph while indeed, we are to him sincere counselors?
12:12
أَرۡسِلۡهُ
Send him
مَعَنَا
with us
غَدًا
tomorrow
(to) enjoy
وَيَلۡعَبۡ
and play
وَإِنّ َا
And indeed, we
لَهُۥ
for him
لَحَـٰ فِظُو نَ
١٢(will) surely (be) guardians
Send him with us tomorrow that he may eat well and play. And indeed, we will be his guardians."
12:13
قَالَ
He said
إِنّ ِى
Indeed, [I]
لَيَحۡزُنُنِىٓ
it surely saddens me
أَن
that
you should take him
بِهِۦ
you should take him
وَأَخَافُ
and I fear
أَن
that
would eat him
a wolf
وَأَنت ُمۡ
while you
عَنۡهُ
of him
غَـٰ فِلُو نَ
١٣(are) unaware
[Jacob] said, "Indeed, it saddens me that you should take him, and I fear that a wolf would eat him while you are of him unaware."
12:14
قَالُواۡ
They said
لَئِنۡ
If
أَكَلَهُ
eats him
the wolf
وَنَحۡنُ
while we
عُصۡبَةٌ
(are) a group
إِنّ َآ
indeed, we
إِذًا
then
surely (would be) losers
They said, "If a wolf should eat him while we are a [strong] clan, indeed, we would then be losers."
12:15
فَلَمّ َا
So when
ذَهَبُواۡ
they took him
بِهِۦ
they took him
وَأَجۡ مَعُوٓ اۡ
and agreed
أَن
that
they put him
فِى
in
غَيَـٰ بَتِ
(the) bottom
(of) the well
وَأَوۡحَيۡنَآ
But We inspired
إِلَيۡهِ
to him
لَتُنَبِّئَنّ َهُم
Surely, you will inform them
about this affair
هَـٰ ذَا
about this affair
وَهُمۡ
while they
لَا
(do) not
يَشۡعُرُو نَ
١٥perceive
So when they took him [out] and agreed to put him into the bottom of the well...1 But We inspired to him, "You will surely inform them [someday] about this affair of theirs while they do not perceive [your identity]."
12:16
وَجَا ٓءُوٓ
And they came
أَبَاهُمۡ
(to) their father
عِشَا ٓءً
early at night
weeping
And they came to their father at night, weeping.
12:17
قَالُواۡ
They said
يَـٰٓ أَبَانَآ
O our father
إِنّ َا
Indeed, we
ذَهَبۡ نَا
[we] went
نَسۡتَبِقُ
racing each other
وَتَرَكۡنَا
and we left
يُوسُفَ
Yusuf
عِند َ
with
مَتَـٰ عِنَا
our possessions
فَأَكَلَهُ
and ate him
the wolf
وَمَآ
But not
أَنت َ
you
بِمُؤۡمِنٍ
(will) believe
us
وَلَوۡ
even if
كُنّ َا
we are
صَـٰ دِقِي نَ
١٧truthful
They said, "O our father, indeed we went racing each other and left Joseph with our possessions, and a wolf ate him. But you would not believe us, even if we were truthful."
12:18
وَجَا ٓءُو
And they brought
عَلَىٰ
upon
قَمِيصِهِۦ
his shirt
بِدَمٍ
with false blood
with false blood
He said
بَلۡ
Nay
سَوَّلَتۡ
has enticed you
لَكُمۡ
has enticed you
أَنف ُسُكُمۡ
your souls
أَمۡرًاۖ
(to) a matter
so patience
(is) beautiful
And Allah
(is) the One sought for help
عَلَىٰ
against
مَا
what
تَصِفُو نَ
١٨you describe
And they brought upon his shirt false blood.1 [Jacob] said, "Rather, your souls have enticed you to something, so patience is most fitting. And Allāh is the one sought for help against that which you describe."
12:19
وَجَا ٓءَتۡ
And there came
سَيَّارَةٌ
a caravan
and they sent
وَارِدَهُمۡ
their water drawer
فَأَدۡ لَىٰ
then he let down
دَلۡوَهُۥ ۖ
his bucket
قَالَ
He said
يَـٰ بُشۡرَىٰ
O good news
هَـٰ ذَا
This
غُلَـٰ مٌۚ
(is) a boy
And they hid him
بِضَـٰ عَةًۚ
(as) a merchandise
And Allah
عَلِيمُۢ
(is) All-Knower
of what
يَعۡمَلُو نَ
١٩they do
And there came a company of travelers; then they sent their water drawer, and he let down his bucket. He said, "Good news! Here is a boy." And they concealed him, [taking him] as merchandise;1 and Allāh was Knowing of what they did.
12:20
وَشَرَوۡهُ
And they sold him
بِثَمَنِۭ
for a price
very low
dirhams
مَعۡدُودَةٍ
few
and they were
فِيهِ
about him
مِنَ
of
those keen to give up
And they sold him for a reduced price - a few dirhams - and they were, concerning him, of those content with little.
