1 Surahs6 Versesركوع 18
2:142
۞سَيَقُولُ
Will say
the foolish ones
مِنَ
from
the people
مَا
What
وَلَّـٰ هُمۡ
(has) turned them
عَن
from
their direction of prayer
which
كَانُواۡ
they were used to
عَلَيۡهَاۚ
[on it]
قُل
Say
لِّلَّهِ
For Allah
(is) the east
وَٱ لۡمَغۡرِبُۚ
and the west
يَهۡدِى
He guides
مَن
whom
He wills
إِلَىٰ
to
صِرٰ طٍ
a path
straight
The foolish among the people will say, "What has turned them away from their qiblah,1 which they used to face?"2 Say, "To Allāh belongs the east and the west. He guides whom He wills to a straight path."
2:143
وَكَذٰ لِكَ
And thus
جَعَلۡنَـٰ كُمۡ
We made you
أُمّ َةً
a community
(of the) middle way
so that you will be
شُهَدَا ٓءَ
witnesses
عَلَى
over
the mankind
وَيَكُونَ
and will be
the Messenger
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
on you
شَهِيدًاۗ
a witness
And not
جَعَلۡنَا
We made
the direction of prayer
which
كُنت َ
you were used to
عَلَيۡهَآ
[on it]
إِلَّا
except
لِنَعۡلَمَ
that We make evident
مَن
(he) who
follows
the Messenger
مِمّ َن
from (he) who
turns back
عَلَىٰ
on
عَقِبَيۡهِۚ
his heels
وَإِن
And indeed
it was
لَكَبِيرَةً
certainly a great (test)
إِلَّا
except
عَلَى
for
those whom
هَدَى
guided
(by) Allah
وَمَا
And not
كَانَ
will
Allah
لِيُضِيعَ
let go waste
إِيمَـٰ نَكُمۡۚ
your faith
إِنّ َ
Indeed
Allah
بِٱ ل نّ َاسِ
(is) to [the] mankind
لَرَءُوفٌ
Full of Kindness
Most Merciful
And thus We have made you a median [i.e., just] community that you will be witnesses over the people and the Messenger will be a witness over you. And We did not make the qiblah which you used to face except that We might make evident who would follow the Messenger from who would turn back on his heels.1 And indeed, it is difficult except for those whom Allāh has guided. And never would Allāh have caused you to lose your faith [i.e., your previous prayers]. Indeed Allāh is, to the people, Kind and Merciful.
2:144
قَدۡ
Indeed
نَرَىٰ
We see
تَقَلُّبَ
(the) turning
وَجۡ هِكَ
(of) your face
فِى
towards
the heaven
فَلَنُوَلِّيَنّ َكَ
So We will surely turn you
قِبۡ لَةً
(to the) direction of prayer
you will be pleased with
فَوَلِّ
So turn
وَجۡ هَكَ
your face
شَطۡ رَ
towards the direction
(of) Al-Masjid
Al-Haraam
وَحَيۡثُ
and wherever
مَا
that
كُنت ُمۡ
you are
فَوَلُّواۡ
[so] turn
وُجُوهَكُمۡ
your faces
شَطۡ رَهُۥ ۗ
(in) its direction
وَإِنّ َ
And indeed
those who
أُوتُواۡ
were given
the Book
لَيَعۡلَمُونَ
surely know
أَنّ َهُ
that it
(is) the truth
مِن
from
their Lord
وَمَا
And not
(is) Allah
بِغَـٰ فِلٍ
unaware
عَمّ َا
of what
يَعۡمَلُو نَ
١٤٤they do
We have certainly seen the turning of your face, [O Muḥammad], toward the heaven, and We will surely turn you to a qiblah with which you will be pleased. So turn your face [i.e., yourself] toward al-Masjid al-Ḥarām.1 And wherever you [believers] are, turn your faces [i.e., yourselves] toward it [in prayer]. Indeed, those who have been given the Scripture [i.e., the Jews and the Christians] well know that it is the truth from their Lord. And Allāh is not unaware of what they do.
2:145
وَلَئِنۡ
And even if
أَتَيۡتَ
you come
(to) those who
أُوتُواۡ
were given
the Book
بِكُلِّ
with all
ءَايَةٍ
(the) signs
not
تَبِعُواۡ
they would follow
قِبۡ لَتَكَۚ
your direction of prayer
وَمَآ
and not
أَنت َ
(will) you (be)
بِتَابِعٍ
a follower
(of) their direction of prayer
وَمَا
And not
بَعۡضُهُم
some of them
(are) followers
(of the) direction of prayer
بَعۡضٍۚ
(of each) other
And if
you followed
أَهۡوَا ٓءَهُم
their desires
from
after
مَا
[what]
جَا ٓءَكَ
came to you
مِنَ
of
the knowledge
إِنّ َكَ
indeed, you
إِذًا
(would) then
(be) surely among
the wrongdoers
And if you brought to those who were given the Scripture every sign, they would not follow your qiblah. Nor will you be a follower of their qiblah. Nor would they be followers of one another's qiblah. So if you were to follow their desires after what has come to you of knowledge, indeed, you would then be among the wrongdoers.
2:146
ٱلَّذِينَ
(To) those whom
ءَاتَيۡنَـٰ هُمُ
We gave [them]
the Book
يَعۡرِفُونَهُۥ
they recognize it
كَمَا
like
يَعۡرِفُونَ
they recognize
أَبۡ نَا ٓءَهُمۡۖ
their sons
وَإِنّ َ
And indeed
فَرِيقًا
a group
of them
لَيَكۡتُمُونَ
surely they conceal
the Truth
وَهُمۡ
while they
يَعۡلَمُو نَ
١٤٦know
Those to whom We gave the Scripture know him [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)] as they know their own sons. But indeed, a party of them conceal the truth while they know [it].
2:147
ٱلۡحَقُّ
The Truth
مِن
(is) from
your Lord
فَلَا
so (do) not
تَكُونَنّ َ
be
مِنَ
among
the doubters
The truth is from your Lord, so never be among the doubters.
