Back to Ruku Indexٱ للَّهُٱ لَّذِينَٱ لۡكَـٰ ذِبِي نَ٤٣ٱ لَّذِينَٱ لۡأَخِرِي ُجَـٰ هِدُواۡ ب ِٱ لۡمُتَّقِي نَ٤٤ٱ لَّذِينَٱ لۡأَخِرِٱ لۡخُرُوجَو َلَـٰ كِن ك َرِهَٱ للَّهُٱ نۢب ِعَاثَهُمۡٱ قۡ عُدُواۡ ٱ لۡقَـٰ عِدِي نَ٤٦م َّاو َلَأَوۡضَعُواۡ ٱ لۡفِتۡنَةَب ِٱ ل ظَّـٰ لِمِي نَ٤٧ٱ بۡ تَغَوُاۡ ٱ لۡفِتۡنَةَق َبۡ لُٱ لۡأُمُورَٱ لۡحَقُّٱ للَّهِم َّن ي َقُولُٱ ئۡذَن ل ِّىٱ لۡفِتۡنَةِب ِٱ لۡكَـٰ فِرِي نَ٤٩ت ُصِبۡ كَت َسُؤۡهُمۡۖت ُصِبۡ كَي َقُولُواۡ ق َبۡ لُي ُصِيبَنَآ ٱ للَّهُٱ للَّهِٱ لۡمُؤۡمِنُو نَ٥١ٱ لۡحُسۡنَيَيۡنِۖي ُصِيبَكُمُٱ للَّهُم ِّنۡم ُّتَرَبِّصُو نَ٥٢ل َّن ي ُتَقَبَّلَف َـٰ سِقِي نَ٥٣ت ُقۡ بَلَٱ ل صَّلَو ٰ ةَٱ للَّهُب ِهَاٱ لۡحَيَو ٰ ةِٱ ل دُّنۡيَام ِّنك ُمۡي َفۡرَقُو نَ٥٦ل َّوَلَّوۡاۡ م َّن ي َلۡمِزُكَٱ ل صَّدَقَـٰ تِل َّمۡٱ للَّهُٱ للَّهُٱ للَّهُف َضۡلِهِۦ ٱ للَّهِ

9:43
عَفَا
(May) Allah forgive
(May) Allah forgive
عَنك َ
you
لِمَ
Why (did)
أَذِنت َ
you grant leave
لَهُمۡ
to them
حَتَّىٰ
until
يَتَبَيَّنَ
(became) evident
لَكَ
to you
those who
صَدَقُواۡ
were truthful
وَتَعۡلَمَ
and you knew
the liars
Allāh has pardoned you, [O Muḥammad, but] why did you give them permission [to remain behind]? [You should not have] until it was evident to you who were truthful and you knew [who were] the liars.
9:44
لَا
(Would) not ask your permission
يَسۡتَــٔۡذِنُكَ
(Would) not ask your permission
those who
يُؤۡمِنُونَ
believe
بِٱ للَّهِ
in Allah
وَٱ لۡيَوۡمِ
and the Day
the Last
أَن
that
they strive
بِأَمۡوٰ
with their wealth
وَأَنف ُسِهِمۡۗ
and their lives
وَٱ للَّهُ
And Allah
عَلِيمُۢ
(is) All-Knower
of the righteous
Those who believe in Allāh and the Last Day would not ask permission of you to be excused from striving [i.e., fighting] with their wealth and their lives. And Allāh is Knowing of those who fear Him.
9:45
إِنّ َمَا
Only
يَسۡتَــٔۡذِنُكَ
ask your leave
those who
لَا
(do) not
يُؤۡمِنُونَ
believe
بِٱ للَّهِ
in Allah
وَٱ لۡيَوۡمِ
and the Day
the Last
وَٱ رۡتَابَتۡ
and (are in) doubts
قُلُوبُهُمۡ
their hearts
فَهُمۡ
so they
فِى
in
رَيۡبِهِمۡ
their doubts
يَتَرَدَّدُو نَ
٤٥they waver
Only those would ask permission of you who do not believe in Allāh and the Last Day and whose hearts have doubted, and they, in their doubt, are hesitating.
9:46
۞وَلَوۡ
And if
أَرَادُواۡ
they had wished
(to) go forth
لَأَعَدُّواۡ
surely they (would) have prepared
لَهُۥ
for it
عُدَّةً
(some) preparation
But
Allah disliked
Allah disliked
their being sent
فَثَبَّطَهُمۡ
so He made them lag behind
وَقِيلَ
and it was said
Sit
مَعَ
with
those who sit
And if they had intended to go forth, they would have prepared for it [some] preparation. But Allāh disliked their being sent, so He kept them back, and they were told, "Remain [behind] with those who remain."1
9:47
لَوۡ
If
خَرَجُواۡ
they (had) gone forth
فِيكُم
with you
not
زَادُوكُمۡ
they (would) have increased you
إِلَّا
except
خَبَالاً
(in) confusion
and would have been active
خِلَـٰ لَكُمۡ
in your midst
يَبۡ غُونَكُمُ
seeking (for) you
dissension
وَفِيكُمۡ
And among you (are some)
سَمّ َـٰ عُونَ
who would have listened
لَهُمۡۗ
to them
وَٱ للَّهُ
And Allah
عَلِيمُۢ
(is) All-Knower
of the wrongdoers
Had they gone forth with you, they would not have increased you except in confusion, and they would have been active among you, seeking [to cause] you fitnah [i.e., chaos and dissension]. And among you are avid listeners to them. And Allāh is Knowing of the wrongdoers.
9:48
لَقَدِ
Verily
they had sought
dissension
مِن
before
before
وَقَلَّبُواۡ
and had upset
لَكَ
for you
the matters
حَتَّىٰ
until
جَا ٓءَ
came
the truth
وَظَهَرَ
and became manifest
أَمۡرُ
(the) Order of Allah
(the) Order of Allah
وَهُمۡ
while they
كَـٰ رِهُو نَ
٤٨disliked (it)
They had already desired dissension before and had upset matters for you1 until the truth came and the ordinance [i.e., victory] of Allāh appeared, while they were averse.
9:49
وَمِنۡهُم
And among them
(is he) who
says
Grant me leave
Grant me leave
وَلَا
and (do) not
تَفۡتِنّ ِىٓۚ
put me to trial
أَلَا
Surely
فِى
in
the trial
سَقَطُواۡۗ
they have fallen
وَإِنّ َ
And indeed
جَهَنّ َمَ
Hell
لَمُحِيطَةُۢ
(will) surely surround
the disbelievers
And among them is he who says, "Permit me [to remain at home] and do not put me to trial." Unquestionably, into trial they have fallen.1 And indeed, Hell will encompass the disbelievers.
9:50
إِن
If
befalls you
حَسَنَةٌ
good
it distresses them
وَإِن
but if
befalls you
مُصِيبَةٌ
a calamity
they say
قَدۡ
Verily
أَخَذۡنَآ
we took
أَمۡرَنَا
our matter
مِن
before
before
وَيَتَوَلَّواۡ
And they turn away
وَّهُمۡ
while they
فَرِحُو نَ
٥٠(are) rejoicing
If good befalls you, it distresses them; but if disaster strikes you, they say, "We took our matter [in hand] before,"1 and turn away while they are rejoicing.
9:51
قُل
Say
لَّن
Never
will befall us
إِلَّا
except
مَا
what
كَتَبَ
Allah has decreed
Allah has decreed
لَنَا
for us
هُوَ
He
مَوۡلَـٰ نَاۚ
(is) our Protector
وَعَلَى
And on
Allah
فَلۡيَتَوَكَّلِ
[so] let the believers put (their) trust
[so] let the believers put (their) trust
Say, "Never will we be struck except by what Allāh has decreed for us; He is our protector." And upon Allāh let the believers rely.
9:52
قُلۡ
Say
هَلۡ
Do
تَرَبَّصُونَ
you await
بِنَآ
for us
إِلَّآ
except
إِحۡدَى
one
(of) the two best (things)
وَنَحۡنُ
while we
نَتَرَبَّصُ
[we] await
بِكُمۡ
for you
أَن
that
Allah will afflict you
Allah will afflict you
بِعَذَابٍ
with a punishment
from
عِند ِهِۦٓ
[near] Him
أَوۡ
or
بِأَيۡدِينَاۖ
by our hands
فَتَرَبَّصُوٓ اۡ
So wait
إِنّ َا
indeed, we
مَعَكُم
with you
(are) waiting
Say, "Do you await for us except one of the two best things [i.e., martyrdom or victory] while we await for you that Allāh will afflict you with punishment from Himself or at our hands? So wait; indeed we, along with you, are waiting."
9:53
قُلۡ
Say
أَنف ِقُواۡ
Spend
طَوۡعًا
willingly
أَوۡ
or
كَرۡهًا
unwillingly
never
will be accepted
مِنك ُمۡۖ
from you
إِنّ َكُمۡ
Indeed, you
كُنت ُمۡ
[you] are
قَوۡمًا
a people
defiantly disobedient
Say, "Spend willingly or unwillingly; never will it be accepted from you. Indeed, you have been a defiantly disobedient people."
9:54
وَمَا
And not
مَنَعَهُمۡ
prevents them
أَن
that
is accepted
مِنۡهُمۡ
from them
نَفَقَـٰ تُهُمۡ
their contributions
إِلَّآ
except
أَنّ َهُمۡ
that they
كَفَرُواۡ
disbelieve
بِٱ للَّهِ
in Allah
وَبِرَسُولِهِۦ
and in His Messenger
وَلَا
and not
يَأۡتُونَ
they come
(to) the prayer
إِلَّا
except
وَهُمۡ
while they
كُسَالَىٰ
(are) lazy
وَلَا
and not
يُنف ِقُونَ
they spend
إِلَّا
except
وَهُمۡ
while they
كَـٰ رِهُو نَ
٥٤(are) unwilling
And what prevents their expenditures from being accepted from them but that they have disbelieved in Allāh and in His Messenger and that they come not to prayer except while they are lazy and that they do not spend except while they are unwilling.
9:55
فَلَا
So (let) not
تُعۡجِبۡ كَ
impress you
أَمۡوٰ
their wealth
وَلَآ
and not
أَوۡلَـٰ دُهُمۡۚ
their children
إِنّ َمَا
Only
يُرِيدُ
Allah intends
Allah intends
لِيُعَذِّبَهُم
to punish them
with it
فِى
in
the life
(of) the world
وَتَزۡهَقَ
and should depart
أَنف ُسُهُمۡ
their souls
وَهُمۡ
while they
كَـٰ فِرُو نَ
٥٥(are) disbelievers
So let not their wealth or their children impress you. Allāh only intends to punish them through them in worldly life and that their souls should depart [at death] while they are disbelievers.
9:56
وَيَحۡلِفُونَ
And they swear
بِٱ للَّهِ
by Allah
إِنّ َهُمۡ
indeed, they
لَمِنك ُمۡ
surely (are) of you
وَمَا
while not
هُم
they
(are) of you
وَلَـٰ كِنّ َهُمۡ
but they
قَوۡمٌ
(are) a people
(who) are afraid
And they swear by Allāh that they are from among you while they are not from among you; but they are a people who are afraid.
9:57
لَوۡ
If
يَجِدُونَ
they could find
مَلۡجَــًٔا
a refuge
أَوۡ
or
مَغَـٰ رٰ
caves
أَوۡ
or
مُدَّخَلاً
a place to enter
surely, they would turn
إِلَيۡهِ
to it
وَهُمۡ
and they
يَجۡ مَحُو نَ
٥٧run wild
If they could find a refuge or some caves or any place to enter [and hide], they would turn to it while they run heedlessly.
9:58
وَمِنۡهُم
And among them
(is he) who
criticizes you
فِى
concerning
the charities
فَإِنۡ
Then if
أُعۡطُواۡ
they are given
مِنۡهَا
from it
رَضُواۡ
they are pleased
وَإِن
but if
not
يُعۡطَوۡاۡ
they are given
مِنۡهَآ
from it
إِذَا
then
هُمۡ
they
يَسۡخَطُو نَ
٥٨(are) enraged
And among them are some who criticize you concerning the [distribution of] charities. If they are given from them, they approve; but if they are not given from them, at once they become angry.
9:59
وَلَوۡ
And if
أَنّ َهُمۡ
[that] they
رَضُواۡ
(were) satisfied
مَآ
(with) what
ءَاتَـٰ هُمُ
Allah gave them
Allah gave them
وَرَسُولُهُۥ
and His Messenger
وَقَالُواۡ
and said
حَسۡبُنَا
Sufficient for us
(is) Allah
سَيُؤۡتِينَا
Allah will give us
Allah will give us
مِن
of
His Bounty
وَرَسُولُهُۥٓ
and His Messenger
إِنّ َآ
Indeed, we
إِلَى
to
Allah
رٰ ُو نَ
٥٩turn our hopes
If only they had been satisfied with what Allāh and His Messenger gave them and said, "Sufficient for us is Allāh; Allāh will give us of His bounty, and [so will] His Messenger; indeed, we are desirous toward Allāh,"1 [it would have been better for them].
