An-Naba

The Tidings40 Verses1 Hadithsmakkah

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

78:1
عَمَّ
About what
يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
are they asking one another
١
About what are they asking one another?
78:2
عَنِ
About
ٱلنَّبَإِ
the News
ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
the Great
٢
About the great news1 -
78:3
ٱلَّذِى
(About) which
هُمۡ
they
فِيهِ
(are) concerning it
مُخۡتَلِفُونَ
(in) disagreement
٣
That over which they are in disagreement.
78:4
كَلَّا
Nay
سَيَعۡلَمُونَ
(soon) they will know
٤
No! They are going to know.
78:5
ثُمَّ
Then
كَلَّا
Nay
سَيَعۡلَمُونَ
(soon) they will know
٥
Then, no! They are going to know.
78:6
أَلَمۡ
Have not
نَجۡعَلِ
We made
ٱلۡأَرۡضَ
the earth
مِهَـٰدًا
a resting place
٦
Have We not made the earth a resting place?
78:7
وَٱلۡجِبَالَ
And the mountains
أَوۡتَادًا
(as) pegs
٧
And the mountains as stakes?1
78:8
وَخَلَقۡنَـٰكُمۡ
And We created you
أَزۡوٰجًا
(in) pairs
٨
And We created you in pairs.
78:9
وَجَعَلۡنَا
And We made
نَوۡمَكُمۡ
your sleep
سُبَاتًا
(for) rest
٩
And made your sleep [a means for] rest
78:10
وَجَعَلۡنَا
And We made
ٱلَّيۡلَ
the night
لِبَاسًا
(as) covering
١٠
And made the night as clothing1.
78:11
وَجَعَلۡنَا
And We made
ٱلنَّهَارَ
the day
مَعَاشًا
(for) livelihood
١١
And made the day for livelihood.
78:12
وَبَنَيۡنَا
And We constructed
فَوۡقَكُمۡ
over you
سَبۡعًا
seven
شِدَادًا
strong
١٢
And constructed above you seven strong [heavens].
78:13
وَجَعَلۡنَا
And We placed
سِرَاجًا
a lamp
وَهَّاجًا
burning
١٣
And made [therein] a burning lamp
78:14
وَأَنزَلۡنَا
And We sent down
مِنَ
from
ٱلۡمُعۡصِرٰتِ
the rain clouds
مَآءً
water
ثَجَّاجًا
pouring abundantly
١٤
And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water.
78:15
لِّنُخۡرِجَ
That We may bring forth
بِهِۦ
thereby
حَبًّا
grain
وَنَبَاتًا
and vegetation
١٥
That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation.
78:16
وَجَنَّـٰتٍ
And gardens
أَلۡفَافًا
(of) thick foliage
١٦
And gardens of entwined growth.
78:17
إِنَّ
Indeed
يَوۡمَ
(the) Day
ٱلۡفَصۡلِ
(of) the Judgment
كَانَ
is
مِيقَـٰتًا
an appointed time
١٧
Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time -
78:18
يَوۡمَ
(The) Day
يُنفَخُ
(in which) shall be blown
فِى
in
ٱلصُّورِ
the trumpet
فَتَأۡتُونَ
and you will come forth
أَفۡوَاجًا
(in) crowds
١٨
The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes
78:19
وَفُتِحَتِ
And is opened
ٱلسَّمَآءُ
the heaven
فَكَانَتۡ
and becomes
أَبۡوٰبًا
gateways
١٩
And the heaven is opened and will become gateways.
78:20
وَسُيِّرَتِ
And are moved
ٱلۡجِبَالُ
the mountains
فَكَانَتۡ
and become
سَرَابًا
a mirage
٢٠
And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage.
78:21
إِنَّ
Indeed
جَهَنَّمَ
Hell
كَانَتۡ
is
مِرۡصَادًا
lying in wait
٢١
Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait
78:22
لِّلطَّـٰغِينَ
For the transgressors
مَـَٔـابًا
a place of return
٢٢
For the transgressors, a place of return,
78:23
لَّـٰبِثِينَ
(They will) be remaining
فِيهَآ
therein
أَحۡقَابًا
(for) ages
٢٣
In which they will remain for ages [unending].
78:24
لَّا
Not
يَذُوقُونَ
they will taste
فِيهَا
therein
بَرۡدًا
coolness
وَلَا
and not
شَرَابًا
any drink
٢٤
They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink.
78:25
إِلَّا
Except
حَمِيمًا
scalding water
وَغَسَّاقًا
and purulence
٢٥
Except scalding water and [foul] purulence -
78:26
جَزَآءً
A recompense
وِفَاقًا
appropriate
٢٦
An appropriate recompense.1
78:27
إِنَّهُمۡ
Indeed, they
كَانُواۡ
were
لَا
not
يَرۡجُونَ
expecting
حِسَابًا
an account
٢٧
Indeed, they were not expecting an account
78:28
وَكَذَّبُواۡ
And they denied
بِـَٔـايَـٰتِنَا
Our Signs
كِذَّابًا
(with) denial
٢٨
And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial.
78:29
وَكُلَّ
And every
شَىۡءٍ
thing
أَحۡصَيۡنَـٰهُ
We have enumerated it
كِتَـٰبًا
(in) a Book
٢٩
But all things We have enumerated in writing.
78:30
فَذُوقُواۡ
So taste
فَلَن
and never
نَّزِيدَكُمۡ
We will increase you
إِلَّا
except
عَذَابًا
(in) punishment
٣٠
"So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment."1
78:31
إِنَّ
Indeed
لِلۡمُتَّقِينَ
for the righteous
مَفَازًا
(is) success
٣١
Indeed, for the righteous is attainment1 -
78:32
حَدَآئِقَ
Gardens
وَأَعۡنَـٰبًا
and grapevines
٣٢
Gardens and grapevines.
78:33
وَكَوَاعِبَ
And splendid companions
أَتۡرَابًا
well-matched
٣٣
And full-breasted [companions] of equal age.
78:34
وَكَأۡسًا
And a cup
دِهَاقًا
full
٣٤
And a full cup.1
78:35
لَّا
Not
يَسۡمَعُونَ
they will hear
فِيهَا
therein
لَغۡوًا
any vain talk
وَلَا
and not
كِذّٰبًا
any falsehood
٣٥
No ill speech will they hear therein or any falsehood -
78:36
جَزَآءً
(As) a reward
مِّن
from
رَّبِّكَ
your Lord
عَطَآءً
a gift
حِسَابًا
(according to) account
٣٦
[As] reward from your Lord, [a generous] gift [made due by] account,1
78:37
رَّبِّ
Lord
ٱلسَّمَـٰوٰتِ
(of) the heavens
وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ
and the earth
وَمَا
and whatever
بَيۡنَهُمَا
(is) between both of them
ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ‌ۖ
the Most Gracious
لَا
not
يَمۡلِكُونَ
they have power
مِنۡهُ
from Him
خِطَابًا
(to) address
٣٧
[From] the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Most Merciful. They possess not from Him [authority for] speech.1
78:38
يَوۡمَ
(The) Day
يَقُومُ
will stand
ٱلرُّوحُ
the Spirit
وَٱلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ
and the Angels
صَفًّا‌ۖ
(in) rows
لَّا
not
يَتَكَلَّمُونَ
they will speak
إِلَّا
except
مَنۡ
(one) who
أَذِنَ
permits
لَهُ
[for] him
ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ
the Most Gracious
وَقَالَ
and he (will) say
صَوَابًا
(what is) correct
٣٨
The Day that the Spirit [i.e., Gabriel] and the angels will stand in rows, they will not speak except for one whom the Most Merciful permits, and he will say what is correct.
78:39
ذٰلِكَ
That
ٱلۡيَوۡمُ
(is) the Day
ٱلۡحَقُّ‌ۖ
the True
فَمَن
So whoever
شَآءَ
wills
ٱتَّخَذَ
let him take
إِلَىٰ
towards
رَبِّهِۦ
his Lord
مَـَٔـابًا
a return
٣٩
That is the True [i.e., certain] Day; so he who wills may take to his Lord a [way of] return.1
78:40
إِنَّآ
Indeed We
أَنذَرۡنَـٰكُمۡ
[We] have warned you
عَذَابًا
(of) a punishment
قَرِيبًا
near
يَوۡمَ
(the) Day
يَنظُرُ
will see
ٱلۡمَرۡءُ
the man
مَا
what
قَدَّمَتۡ
have sent forth
يَدَاهُ
his hands
وَيَقُولُ
and will say
ٱلۡكَافِرُ
the disbeliever
يَـٰلَيۡتَنِى
O I wish
كُنتُ
I were
تُرٰبَۢا
dust
٤٠
Indeed, We have warned you of an impending punishment on the Day when a man will observe what his hands have put forth1 and the disbeliever will say, "Oh, I wish that I were dust!"
