Back to Surahsٱ ل نّ َبَإِٱ لۡعَظِي مِ٢ٱ لۡأَرۡضَٱ لَّيۡلَٱ ل نّ َهَارَش ِدَادًا١٢و َهَّاجًا١٣ٱ لۡمُعۡصِرٰ تِث َجَّاجًا١٤و َنَبَاتًا١٥ٱ لۡفَصۡلِٱ ل صُّورِٱ ل سَّمَا ٓءُٱ لۡجِبَالُو َلَاو َغَسَّاقًا٢٥و ِفَاقًا٢٦ن َّزِيدَكُمۡد ِهَاقًا٣٤و َلَام ِّن ر َّبِّكَٱ ل سَّمَـٰ وٰ تِٱ ل رَّحۡمَـٰ نِۖٱ ل رُّوحُل َّاٱ ل رَّحۡمَـٰ نُٱ لۡيَوۡمُٱ لۡحَقُّۖش َا ٓءَٱ تَّخَذَق َرِيبًا ي َوۡمَٱ لۡمَرۡءُٱ لۡكَافِرُ
النبإ
An-Naba
The Tidings40 Verses1 Hadithsmakkah
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
✦
78:1
عَمّ َ
About what
يَتَسَا ٓءَلُو نَ
١are they asking one another
About what are they asking one another?
78:2
عَنِ
About
the News
the Great
About the great news1 -
78:3
ٱلَّذِى
(About) which
هُمۡ
they
فِيهِ
(are) concerning it
مُخۡتَلِفُو نَ
٣(in) disagreement
That over which they are in disagreement.
78:4
كَلَّا
Nay
سَيَعۡلَمُو نَ
٤(soon) they will know
No! They are going to know.
78:5
ثُمّ َ
Then
كَلَّا
Nay
سَيَعۡلَمُو نَ
٥(soon) they will know
Then, no! They are going to know.
78:6
أَلَمۡ
Have not
نَجۡ عَلِ
We made
the earth
مِهَـٰ دًا
٦a resting place
Have We not made the earth a resting place?
78:7
وَٱ لۡجِبَالَ
And the mountains
أَوۡتَادًا
٧(as) pegs
And the mountains as stakes?1
78:8
وَخَلَقۡ نَـٰ كُمۡ
And We created you
أَزۡوٰ جًا
٨(in) pairs
And We created you in pairs.
78:9
وَجَعَلۡنَا
And We made
نَوۡمَكُمۡ
your sleep
سُبَاتًا
٩(for) rest
And made your sleep [a means for] rest
78:10
وَجَعَلۡنَا
And We made
the night
لِبَاسًا
١٠(as) covering
And made the night as clothing1.
78:11
وَجَعَلۡنَا
And We made
the day
مَعَاشًا
١١(for) livelihood
And made the day for livelihood.
78:12
وَبَنَيۡنَا
And We constructed
فَوۡقَكُمۡ
over you
سَبۡ عًا
seven
strong
And constructed above you seven strong [heavens].
78:13
وَجَعَلۡنَا
And We placed
سِرَاجًا
a lamp
burning
And made [therein] a burning lamp
78:14
وَأَنز َلۡنَا
And We sent down
مِنَ
from
the rain clouds
مَا ٓءً
water
pouring abundantly
And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water.
78:15
لِّنُخۡرِجَ
That We may bring forth
بِهِۦ
thereby
حَبًّا
grain
and vegetation
That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation.
78:16
وَجَنّ َـٰ تٍ
And gardens
أَلۡفَافًا
١٦(of) thick foliage
And gardens of entwined growth.
78:17
إِنّ َ
Indeed
يَوۡمَ
(the) Day
(of) the Judgment
كَانَ
is
مِيقَـٰ تًا
١٧an appointed time
Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time -
78:18
يَوۡمَ
(The) Day
يُنف َخُ
(in which) shall be blown
فِى
in
the trumpet
فَتَأۡتُونَ
and you will come forth
أَفۡوَاجًا
١٨(in) crowds
The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes
78:19
وَفُتِحَتِ
And is opened
the heaven
فَكَانَتۡ
and becomes
أَبۡ وٰ بًا
١٩gateways
And the heaven is opened and will become gateways.
78:20
وَسُيِّرَتِ
And are moved
the mountains
فَكَانَتۡ
and become
سَرَابًا
٢٠a mirage
And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage.
78:21
إِنّ َ
Indeed
جَهَنّ َمَ
Hell
كَانَتۡ
is
مِرۡصَادًا
٢١lying in wait
Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait
78:22
لِّلطَّـٰ غِينَ
For the transgressors
مَـَٔـابًا
٢٢a place of return
For the transgressors, a place of return,
78:23
لَّـٰ بِثِينَ
(They will) be remaining
فِيهَآ
therein
أَحۡقَابًا
٢٣(for) ages
In which they will remain for ages [unending].
78:24
لَّا
Not
يَذُوقُونَ
they will taste
فِيهَا
therein
بَرۡدًا
coolness
and not
شَرَابًا
٢٤any drink
They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink.
78:25
إِلَّا
Except
حَمِيمًا
scalding water
and purulence
Except scalding water and [foul] purulence -
78:26
جَزَا ٓءً
A recompense
appropriate
An appropriate recompense.1
78:27
إِنّ َهُمۡ
Indeed, they
كَانُواۡ
were
لَا
not
يَرۡجُونَ
expecting
حِسَابًا
٢٧an account
Indeed, they were not expecting an account
78:28
وَكَذَّبُواۡ
And they denied
بِـَٔـايَـٰ تِنَا
Our Signs
كِذَّابًا
٢٨(with) denial
And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial.
78:29
وَكُلَّ
And every
شَىۡءٍ
thing
أَحۡصَيۡنَـٰ هُ
We have enumerated it
كِتَـٰ بًا
٢٩(in) a Book
But all things We have enumerated in writing.
78:30
فَذُوقُواۡ
So taste
فَلَن
and never
We will increase you
إِلَّا
except
عَذَابًا
٣٠(in) punishment
"So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment."1
78:31
إِنّ َ
Indeed
لِلۡمُتَّقِينَ
for the righteous
مَفَازًا
٣١(is) success
Indeed, for the righteous is attainment1 -
78:32
حَدَا ٓئِقَ
Gardens
وَأَعۡنَـٰ بًا
٣٢and grapevines
Gardens and grapevines.
78:33
وَكَوَاعِبَ
And splendid companions
أَتۡرَابًا
٣٣well-matched
And full-breasted [companions] of equal age.
78:34
وَكَأۡسًا
And a cup
full
And a full cup.1
78:35
لَّا
Not
يَسۡمَعُونَ
they will hear
فِيهَا
therein
لَغۡوًا
any vain talk
and not
كِذّٰ بًا
٣٥any falsehood
No ill speech will they hear therein or any falsehood -
78:36
جَزَا ٓءً
(As) a reward
from
your Lord
عَطَا ٓءً
a gift
حِسَابًا
٣٦(according to) account
[As] reward from your Lord, [a generous] gift [made due by] account,1
78:37
رَّبِّ
Lord
(of) the heavens
وَٱ لۡأَرۡضِ
and the earth
وَمَا
and whatever
بَيۡنَهُمَا
(is) between both of them
the Most Gracious
لَا
not
يَمۡلِكُونَ
they have power
مِنۡهُ
from Him
خِطَابًا
٣٧(to) address
[From] the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Most Merciful. They possess not from Him [authority for] speech.1
78:38
يَوۡمَ
(The) Day
يَقُومُ
will stand
the Spirit
وَٱ لۡمَلَـٰٓ ئِكَةُ
and the Angels
صَفًّاۖ
(in) rows
not
يَتَكَلَّمُونَ
they will speak
إِلَّا
except
مَنۡ
(one) who
أَذِنَ
permits
لَهُ
[for] him
the Most Gracious
وَقَالَ
and he (will) say
صَوَابًا
٣٨(what is) correct
The Day that the Spirit [i.e., Gabriel] and the angels will stand in rows, they will not speak except for one whom the Most Merciful permits, and he will say what is correct.
78:39
ذٰ لِكَ
That
(is) the Day
the True
فَمَن
So whoever
wills
let him take
إِلَىٰ
towards
رَبِّهِۦ
his Lord
مَـَٔـابًا
٣٩a return
That is the True [i.e., certain] Day; so he who wills may take to his Lord a [way of] return.1
78:40
إِنّ َآ
Indeed We
أَنذ َرۡنَـٰ كُمۡ
[We] have warned you
عَذَابًا
(of) a punishment
near
(the) Day
يَنظ ُرُ
will see
the man
مَا
what
قَدَّمَتۡ
have sent forth
يَدَاهُ
his hands
وَيَقُولُ
and will say
the disbeliever
يَـٰ لَيۡتَنِى
O I wish
كُنت ُ
I were
تُرٰ بَۢا
٤٠dust
Indeed, We have warned you of an impending punishment on the Day when a man will observe what his hands have put forth1 and the disbeliever will say, "Oh, I wish that I were dust!"
