Back to Surahsٱ لۡأَنف َالِۖٱ لۡأَنف َالُٱ للَّهَٱ للَّهَك ُنت ُم م ُّؤۡمِنِي نَ١ٱ لۡمُؤۡمِنُونَٱ لَّذِينَٱ للَّهُو َعَلَىٰٱ ل صَّلَو ٰ ةَٱ لۡمُؤۡمِنُونَل َّهُمۡو َرِزۡقٌ ك َرِي مٌ٤ب َيۡتِكَم ِّنَٱ لۡمُؤۡمِنِينَٱ لۡحَقِّٱ لۡمَوۡتِنظ ُرُو نَٱ للَّهُٱ ل طَّا ٓئِفَتَيۡنِٱ ل شَّوۡكَةِٱ للَّهُي ُحِقَّٱ لۡحَقَّٱ لۡكَـٰ فِرِي نَ٧ٱ لۡحَقَّٱ لۡبَـٰ طِلَٱ لۡمُجۡ رِمُو نَ٨ب ِأَلۡفٍ م ِّنَٱ لۡمَلَـٰٓ ئِكَةِٱ للَّهُٱ ل نّ َصۡرُٱ للَّهِۚٱ للَّهَٱ ل نّ ُعَاسَم ِّنۡهُم ِّنَٱ ل سَّمَا ٓءِل ِّيُطَهِّرَكُم ب ِهِۦ ٱ ل شَّيۡطَـٰ نِٱ لۡأَقۡ دَا مَ١١ٱ لۡمَلَـٰٓ ئِكَةِٱ لَّذِينَٱ لَّذِينَٱ ل رُّعۡبَٱ لۡأَعۡنَاقِٱ للَّهَي ُشَاقِقِٱ للَّهَٱ للَّهَٱ لۡعِقَا ب ِ١٣ٱ ل نّ َا رِ١٤ٱ لَّذِينَٱ لَّذِينَف َلَاٱ لۡأَدۡ بَا رَ١٥ي ُوَلِّهِمۡد ُبُرَهُۥٓ ل ِّقِتَالٍف َقَدۡ م ِّنَٱ للَّهِٱ لۡمَصِي رُ١٦ٱ للَّهَٱ للَّهَٱ لۡمُؤۡمِنِينَٱ للَّهَٱ للَّهَٱ لۡكَـٰ فِرِي نَ١٨ت َسۡتَفۡتِحُواۡ ٱ لۡفَتۡحُۖت َنت َهُواۡ ل َّكُمۡۖت َعُودُواۡ ت ُغۡنِىَو َلَوۡٱ للَّهَٱ لۡمُؤۡمِنِي نَ١٩ٱ لَّذِينَٱ للَّهَٱ ل دَّوَا ٓبِّٱ للَّهِٱ ل صُّمّ ُٱ لۡبُكۡمُٱ لَّذِينَٱ للَّهُل َّأَسۡمَعَهُمۡۖم ُّعۡرِضُو نَ٢٣ٱ لَّذِينَٱ سۡتَجِيبُواۡ ٱ للَّهَٱ لۡمَرۡءِل َّاٱ لَّذِينَو َٱ عۡلَمُوٓ اۡ ٱ للَّهَٱ لۡعِقَا ب ِ٢٥م ُّسۡتَضۡعَفُونَٱ لۡأَرۡضِي َتَخَطَّفَكُمُٱ ل نّ َاسُب ِنَصۡرِهِۦ م ِّنَٱ ل طَّيِّبَـٰ تِٱ لَّذِينَٱ للَّهَو َأَنّ َٱ للَّهَٱ لَّذِينَت َتَّقُواۡ ٱ للَّهَو َيُكَفِّرۡٱ لۡفَضۡلِٱ لۡعَظِي مِ٢٩ٱ لَّذِينَٱ للَّهُۖٱ لۡمَـٰ كِرِي نَ٣٠ٱ لۡأَوَّلِي نَ٣١ٱ ل لَّهُمّ َك َانَٱ لۡحَقَّم ِّنَٱ ل سَّمَا ٓءِٱ ئۡتِنَاٱ للَّهُٱ للَّهُٱ للَّهُٱ لۡمَسۡجِدِٱ لۡحَرَامِٱ لۡمُتَّقُونَٱ لۡبَيۡتِو َتَصۡدِيَةًۚ ف َذُوقُواۡ ٱ لۡعَذَابَٱ لَّذِينَس َبِيلِٱ للَّهِۚث ُمّ َٱ للَّهُٱ لۡخَبِيثَٱ ل طَّيِّبِٱ لۡخَبِيثَف َيَرۡكُمَهُۥ ف َيَجۡ عَلَهُۥ ٱ لۡخَـٰ سِرُو نَ٣٧ي َنت َهُواۡ م َّاي َعُودُواۡ ٱ لۡأَوَّلِي نَ٣٨و َيَكُونَٱ ل دِّينُٱ نت َهَوۡاۡ ٱ للَّهَت َوَلَّوۡاۡ ٱ للَّهَٱ لۡمَوۡلَىٰٱ ل نّ َصِي رُ٤٠م ِّن ش َىۡءٍ ف َأَنّ َٱ لۡقُرۡبَىٰٱ ل سَّبِيلِك ُنت ُمۡب ِٱ للَّهِٱ لۡفُرۡقَانِٱ ل ۡتَقَىٱ لۡجَمۡعَانِۗق َدِي رٌ٤١ب ِٱ لۡعُدۡ وَةِٱ ل دُّنۡيَاب ِٱ لۡعُدۡ وَةِٱ لۡقُصۡوَىٰٱ لۡمِيعَـٰ دِۙل ِّيَقۡ ضِىَٱ للَّهُك َانَل ِّيَهۡلِكَب َيِّنَةٍ و َيَحۡيَىٰب َيِّنَةٍۗ و َإِنّ َٱ للَّهَٱ للَّهُو َلَوۡل َّفَشِلۡتُمۡٱ لۡأَمۡرِٱ للَّهَب ِذَاتِٱ ل صُّدُو رِ٤٣ٱ ل ۡتَقَيۡتُمۡو َيُقَلِّلُكُمۡٱ للَّهُك َانَو َإِلَىٱ للَّهِٱ لۡأُمُو رُ٤٤ٱ لَّذِينَف َٱ ثۡبُتُواۡ ٱ للَّهَل َّعَلَّكُمۡٱ للَّهَٱ للَّهَٱ ل صَّـٰ بِرِي نَ٤٦د ِيَـٰ رِهِم ب َطَرًا و َرِئَا ٓءَٱ ل نّ َاسِس َبِيلِٱ للَّهِۚٱ ل شَّيۡطَـٰ نُٱ لۡيَوۡمَٱ ل نّ َاسِل َّكُمۡۖٱ لۡفِئَتَانِم ِّنك ُمۡٱ للَّهَۚٱ لۡعِقَا ب ِ٤٨ٱ لۡمُنَـٰ فِقُونَم َّرَضٌي َتَوَكَّلۡٱ للَّهِٱ للَّهَٱ لَّذِينَٱ لۡمَلَـٰٓ ئِكَةُٱ لۡحَرِي ق ِ٥٠ٱ للَّهَل ِّلۡعَبِي د ِ٥١ق َبۡ لِهِمۡۚٱ للَّهِٱ للَّهُٱ للَّهَش َدِيدُٱ لۡعِقَا ب ِ٥٢ٱ للَّهَن ِّعۡمَةًٱ للَّهَق َبۡ لِهِمۡۚب ِذُنُوبِهِمۡك َانُواۡ ٱ ل دَّوَا ٓبِّٱ للَّهِٱ لَّذِينَو َهُمۡٱ لۡحَرۡبِم َّنۡق َوۡمٍف َٱ نۢب ِذۡٱ للَّهَٱ لۡخَا ٓئِنِي نَ٥٨ٱ لَّذِينَم َّاٱ سۡتَطَعۡتُم م ِّن ق ُوَّةٍ و َمِن ر ِّبَاطِٱ لۡخَيۡلِٱ للَّهِد ُونِهِمۡٱ للَّهُش َىۡءٍ ف ِىٱ للَّهِج َنَحُواۡ ٱ للَّهِۚٱ ل سَّمِيعُٱ لۡعَلِي مُ٦١ي ُرِيدُوٓ اۡ ي َخۡدَعُوكَٱ للَّهُۚٱ لَّذِىٓ ٱ لۡأَرۡضِم َّآ ٱ للَّهَٱ ل نّ َبِىُّٱ للَّهُٱ تَّبَعَكَٱ لۡمُؤۡمِنِي نَ٦٤ٱ ل نّ َبِىُّٱ لۡمُؤۡمِنِينَٱ لۡقِتَالِۚي َكُن م ِّنك ُمۡي َكُن م ِّنك ُم م ِّاۡ ئَةٌ ي َغۡلِبُوٓ اۡ م ِّنَٱ لَّذِينَل َّاٱ للَّهُف َإِن ي َكُن م ِّنك ُم م ِّاۡ ئَةٌ ص َابِرَةٌ ي َغۡلِبُواۡ ي َكُن م ِّنك ُمۡي َغۡلِبُوٓ اۡ ٱ للَّهِۗٱ ل صَّـٰ بِرِي نَ٦٦ي َكُونَٱ لۡأَرۡضِۚٱ ل دُّنۡيَاٱ لۡأَخِرَةَۗم ِّنَٱ للَّهِط َيِّبًاۚ و َٱ تَّقُواۡ ٱ للَّهَۚٱ للَّهَر َّحِي مٌ٦٩ٱ ل نّ َبِىُّف ِىٓ م ِّنَٱ لۡأَسۡرَىٰٓ ي َعۡلَمِٱ للَّهُي ُؤۡتِكُمۡم ِّمّ َآ ر َّحِي مٌ٧٠ي ُرِيدُواۡ ٱ للَّهَق َبۡ لُٱ لَّذِينَٱ للَّهِو َٱ لَّذِينَم ِّن و َلَـٰ يَتِهِم م ِّن ش َىۡءٍٱ سۡتَنص َرُوكُمۡٱ ل دِّينِٱ ل نّ َصۡرُب َيۡنَكُمۡم ِّيثَـٰ قٌۗ و َٱ للَّهُف ِتۡنَةٌ ف ِىٱ لۡأَرۡضِك َبِي رٌ٧٣ٱ للَّهِٱ لۡمُؤۡمِنُونَل َّهُم م َّغۡفِرَةٌ و َرِزۡقٌ ك َرِي مٌ٧٤ب َعۡدُٱ لۡأَرۡحَامِف ِىٱ للَّهِۗٱ للَّهَ
الأنفال
Al-Anfal
The Spoils of War75 Verses26 Hadithsmadinah
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
✦
8:1
يَسۡــَٔلُونَكَ
They ask you
عَنِ
about
the spoils of war
قُلِ
Say
The spoils of war
لِلَّهِ
(are) for Allah
وَٱ ل رَّسُولِۖ
and the Messenger
فَٱ تَّقُواۡ
So fear
Allah
وَأَصۡلِحُواۡ
and set right
ذَاتَ
that
بَيۡنِكُمۡۖ
(which is) between you
وَأَطِيعُواۡ
and obey
Allah
وَرَسُولَهُۥٓ
and His Messenger
إِن
if
you are
believers
They ask you, [O Muḥammad], about the bounties [of war]. Say, "The [decision concerning] bounties is for Allāh and the Messenger." So fear Allāh and amend that which is between you and obey Allāh and His Messenger, if you should be believers.
8:2
إِنّ َمَا
Only
the believers
(are) those who
إِذَا
when
ذُكِرَ
is mentioned
Allah
وَجِلَتۡ
feel fear
قُلُوبُهُمۡ
their hearts
وَإِذَا
and when
تُلِيَتۡ
are recited
عَلَيۡهِمۡ
to them
ءَايَـٰ تُهُۥ
His Verses
زَادَتۡهُمۡ
they increase them
إِيمَـٰ نًا
(in) faith
and upon
رَبِّهِمۡ
their Lord
يَتَوَكَّلُو نَ
٢they put their trust
The believers are only those who, when Allāh is mentioned, their hearts become fearful, and when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith; and upon their Lord they rely -
8:3
ٱلَّذِينَ
Those who
يُقِيمُونَ
establish
the prayer
وَمِمّ َا
and out of what
رَزَقۡ نَـٰ هُمۡ
We have provided them
يُنف ِقُو نَ
٣they spend
The ones who establish prayer, and from what We have provided them, they spend.
8:4
أُوۡ لَـٰٓ ئِكَ
Those
هُمُ
they are
the believers
حَقًّاۚ
(in) truth
For them
دَرَجَـٰ تٌ
(are) ranks
عِند َ
with
رَبِّهِمۡ
their Lord
وَمَغۡفِرَةٌ
and forgiveness
and a provision
noble
Those are the believers, truly. For them are degrees [of high position] with their Lord and forgiveness and noble provision.
8:5
كَمَآ
As
أَخۡرَجَكَ
brought you out
رَبُّكَ
your Lord
مِنۢ
from
your home
بِٱ لۡحَقِّ
in truth
وَإِنّ َ
while indeed
فَرِيقًا
a party
among
the believers
لَكَـٰ رِهُو نَ
٥certainly disliked
[It1 is] just as when your Lord brought you out of your home [for the battle of Badr] in truth, while indeed, a party among the believers were unwilling,
8:6
يُجَـٰ دِلُونَكَ
They dispute with you
فِى
concerning
the truth
بَعۡدَ
after what
مَا
was made clear
تَبَيَّنَ
as if
كَأَنّ َمَا
they were driven
يُسَاقُونَ
to
إِلَى
[the] death
while they
وَهُمۡ
يَ(were) looking
Arguing with you concerning the truth after it had become clear, as if they were being driven toward death while they were looking on.
8:7
وَإِذۡ
And when
يَعِدُكُمُ
promised you
Allah
إِحۡدَى
one
(of) the two groups
أَنّ َهَا
that it (would be)
لَكُمۡ
for you
وَتَوَدُّونَ
and you wished
أَنّ َ
that
غَيۡرَ
(one) other than
ذَاتِ
that
(of) the armed
تَكُونُ
would be
لَكُمۡ
for you
وَيُرِيدُ
But intended
Allah
أَن
to
justify
the truth
بِكَلِمَـٰ تِهِۦ
by His words
وَيَقۡ طَعَ
and cut off
دَابِرَ
(the) roots
(of) the disbelievers
[Remember, O believers], when Allāh promised you one of the two groups1 - that it would be yours - and you wished that the unarmed one would be yours. But Allāh intended to establish the truth by His words and to eliminate the disbelievers
8:8
لِيُحِقَّ
That He might justify
the truth
وَيُبۡ طِلَ
and prove false
the falsehood
وَلَوۡ
even if
كَرِهَ
disliked (it)
the criminals
That He should establish the truth and abolish falsehood, even if the criminals disliked it.
8:9
إِذۡ
When
تَسۡتَغِيثُونَ
you were seeking help
رَبَّكُمۡ
(of) your Lord
فَٱ سۡتَجَابَ
and He answered
لَكُمۡ
[to] you
أَنّ ِى
Indeed, I am
مُمِدُّكُم
going to reinforce you
with a thousand
of
the Angels
مُرۡدِفِي نَ
٩one after another
[Remember] when you were asking help of your Lord, and He answered you, "Indeed, I will reinforce you with a thousand from the angels, following one another."
8:10
وَمَا
And not
جَعَلَهُ
(it was) made
(by) Allah
إِلَّا
but
بُشۡرَىٰ
good tidings
وَلِتَطۡ مَئِنّ َ
and so that might be at rest
بِهِۦ
with it
قُلُوبُكُمۡۚ
your hearts
وَمَا
And (there is) no
[the] victory
إِلَّا
except
مِنۡ
from
عِند ِ
[of]
Allah
إِنّ َ
Indeed
Allah
عَزِيزٌ
(is) All-Mighty
حَكِي مٌ
١٠All-Wise
And Allāh made it not but good tidings and so that your hearts would be assured thereby. And victory is not but from Allāh. Indeed, Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.
8:11
إِذۡ
When
يُغَشِّيكُمُ
He covered you
with [the] slumber
أَمَنَةً
a security
from Him
وَيُنَزِّلُ
and sent down
عَلَيۡكُم
upon you
from
the sky
مَا ٓءً
water
so that He may purify you
with it
وَيُذۡهِبَ
and take away
عَنك ُمۡ
from you
رِجۡ زَ
evil (suggestions)
(of) the Shaitaan
وَلِيَرۡبِطَ
And to strengthen
عَلَىٰ
[on]
قُلُوبِكُمۡ
your hearts
وَيُثَبِّتَ
and make firm
بِهِ
with it
your feet
[Remember] when He overwhelmed you with drowsiness [giving] security from Him and sent down upon you from the sky, rain by which to purify you and remove from you the evil [suggestions] of Satan and to make steadfast your hearts and plant firmly thereby your feet.
8:12
إِذۡ
When
يُوحِى
inspired
رَبُّكَ
your Lord
إِلَى
to
the Angels
أَنّ ِى
I am
مَعَكُمۡ
with you
فَثَبِّتُواۡ
so strengthen
those who
ءَامَنُواۡۚ
believed
سَأُلۡقِى
I will cast
فِى
in
قُلُوبِ
(the) hearts
(of) those who
كَفَرُواۡ
disbelieved
the terror
فَٱ ضۡرِبُواۡ
so strike
فَوۡقَ
above
the necks
وَٱ ضۡرِبُواۡ
and strike
مِنۡهُمۡ
from them
كُلَّ
every
بَنَا نٍ
١٢fingertip[s]
[Remember] when your Lord inspired to the angels, "I am with you, so strengthen those who have believed. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieved, so strike [them] upon the necks and strike from them every fingertip."1
8:13
ذٰ
That
بِأَنّ َهُمۡ
(is) because they
شَا ٓقُّواۡ
opposed
Allah
وَرَسُولَهُۥ ۚ
and His Messenger
وَمَن
And whoever
opposes
Allah
وَرَسُولَهُۥ
and His Messenger
فَإِنّ َ
then indeed
Allah
شَدِيدُ
(is) severe
in [the] penalty
That is because they opposed Allāh and His Messenger. And whoever opposes Allāh and His Messenger - indeed, Allāh is severe in penalty.
8:14
ذٰ
That
فَذُوقُوهُ
So taste it
وَأَنّ َ
And that
لِلۡكَـٰ فِرِينَ
for the disbelievers
عَذَابَ
(is the) punishment
(of) the Fire
"That [is yours], so taste it." And indeed for the disbelievers is the punishment of the Fire.
8:15
يَـٰٓ أَيُّهَا
O you
who
ءَامَنُوٓ اۡ
believe
إِذَا
When
لَقِيتُمُ
you meet
those who
كَفَرُواۡ
disbelieve
زَحۡفًا
advancing
then (do) not
تُوَلُّوهُمُ
turn to them
the backs
O you who have believed, when you meet those who disbelieve advancing [in battle], do not turn to them your backs [in flight].
8:16
وَمَن
And whoever
turns to them
يَوۡمَئِذٍ
that day
his back
إِلَّا
except
مُتَحَرِّفًا
(as) a strategy
of war
أَوۡ
or
مُتَحَيِّزًا
(to) join
إِلَىٰ
to
فِئَةٍ
a group
certainly
بَا ٓءَ
(he has) incurred
بِغَضَبٍ
wrath
of
Allah
وَمَأۡوَٮٰ هُ
and his abode
جَهَنّ َمُۖ
(is) Hell
وَبِئۡسَ
a wretched
destination
And whoever turns his back to them on such a day, unless swerving [as a strategy] for war or joining [another] company, has certainly returned with anger [upon him] from Allāh, and his refuge is Hell - and wretched is the destination.
8:17
فَلَمۡ
And not
تَقۡ تُلُوهُمۡ
you kill them
وَلَـٰ كِنّ َ
but
Allah
قَتَلَهُمۡۚ
killed them
وَمَا
And not
رَمَيۡتَ
you threw
إِذۡ
when
رَمَيۡتَ
you threw
وَلَـٰ كِنّ َ
but
Allah
رَمَىٰۚ
threw
وَلِيُبۡ لِىَ
and that He may test
the believers
مِنۡهُ
from Him
بَلَا ٓءً
(with) a trial
حَسَنًاۚ
good
إِنّ َ
Indeed
Allah
سَمِيعٌ
(is) All-Hearing
عَلِي مٌ
١٧All-Knowing
And you did not kill them, but it was Allāh who killed them.1 And you threw not, [O Muḥammad], when you threw, but it was Allāh who threw2 that He might test the believers with a good test.3 Indeed, Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.
8:18
ذٰ
That (is the case)
وَأَنّ َ
and that
Allah (is)
مُوهِنُ
one who makes weak
كَيۡدِ
(the) plan
(of) the disbelievers
That [is so], and [also] that Allāh will weaken the plot of the disbelievers.
8:19
إِن
If
you ask for victory
فَقَدۡ
then certainly
جَا ٓءَكُمُ
has come to you
the victory
وَإِن
And if
you desist
فَهُوَ
then it (is)
خَيۡرٌ
good
for you
وَإِن
but if
you return
نَعُدۡ
We will return (too)
وَلَن
And never
will avail
عَنك ُمۡ
you
فِئَتُكُمۡ
your forces
شَيۡــًٔا
anything
even if
كَثُرَتۡ
(they are) numerous
وَأَنّ َ
And that
Allah
مَعَ
(is) with
the believers
If you [disbelievers] seek the decision [i.e., victory] - the decision [i.e., defeat] has come to you. And if you desist [from hostilities], it is best for you; but if you return [to war], We will return, and never will you be availed by your [large] company at all, even if it should increase; and [that is] because Allāh is with the believers.
8:20
يَـٰٓ أَيُّهَا
O you
who
ءَامَنُوٓ اۡ
believe
أَطِيعُواۡ
Obey
Allah
وَرَسُولَهُۥ
and His Messenger
وَلَا
And (do) not
تَوَلَّوۡاۡ
turn away
عَنۡهُ
from him
وَأَنت ُمۡ
while you
تَسۡمَعُو نَ
٢٠hear
O you who have believed, obey Allāh and His Messenger and do not turn from him while you hear [his order].
8:21
وَلَا
And (do) not
تَكُونُواۡ
be
كَٱ لَّذِينَ
like those who
قَالُواۡ
say
سَمِعۡنَا
We heard
وَهُمۡ
while they
لَا
(do) not
يَسۡمَعُو نَ
٢١hear
And do not be like those who say, "We have heard," while they do not hear.
8:22
۞إِنّ َ
Indeed
شَرَّ
worst
(of) the living creatures
عِند َ
near
Allah
(are) the deaf
the dumb
those who
لَا
(do) not
يَعۡقِلُو نَ
٢٢use (their) intellect
Indeed, the worst of living creatures in the sight of Allāh are the deaf and dumb who do not use reason [i.e., the disbelievers].
8:23
وَلَوۡ
And if
عَلِمَ
(had) known
Allah
فِيهِمۡ
in them
خَيۡرًا
any good
surely, He (would) have made them hear
وَلَوۡ
And if
أَسۡمَعَهُمۡ
He had made them hear
لَتَوَلَّواۡ
surely they would have turned away
وَّهُم
while they
(were) averse
Had Allāh known any good in them, He would have made them hear. And if He had made them hear, they would [still] have turned away, while they were refusing.
8:24
يَـٰٓ أَيُّهَا
O you
who
ءَامَنُواۡ
believe
Respond
لِلَّهِ
to Allah
وَلِلرَّسُولِ
and His Messenger
إِذَا
when
دَعَاكُمۡ
he calls you
لِمَا
to what
يُحۡيِيكُمۡۖ
gives you life
وَٱ عۡلَمُوٓ اۡ
And know
أَنّ َ
that
Allah
يَحُولُ
comes
بَيۡنَ
(in) between
a man
وَقَلۡبِهِۦ
and his heart
وَأَنّ َهُۥٓ
and that
إِلَيۡهِ
to Him
تُحۡشَرُو نَ
٢٤you will be gathered
O you who have believed, respond to Allāh and to the Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life. And know that Allāh intervenes between a man and his heart and that to Him you will be gathered.
8:25
وَٱ تَّقُواۡ
And fear
فِتۡنَةً
a trial
not
تُصِيبَنّ َ
which will afflict
those who
ظَلَمُواۡ
do wrong
مِنك ُمۡ
among you
خَا ٓصَّةًۖ
exclusively
And know
أَنّ َ
that
Allah
شَدِيدُ
(is) severe
(in) the penalty
And fear a trial1 which will not strike those who have wronged among you exclusively, and know that Allāh is severe in penalty.
8:26
وَٱ ذۡكُرُوٓ اۡ
And remember
إِذۡ
when
أَنت ُمۡ
you
قَلِيلٌ
(were) few
(and) deemed weak
فِى
in
the earth
تَخَافُونَ
fearing
أَن
that
might do away with you
the men
فَـَٔـاوَٮٰ كُمۡ
then He sheltered you
وَأَيَّدَكُم
and strengthened you
with His help
وَرَزَقَكُم
and provided you
of
the good things
لَعَلَّكُمۡ
so that you may
تَشۡكُرُو نَ
٢٦(be) thankful
And remember when you were few and oppressed in the land, fearing that people might abduct you, but He sheltered you, supported you with His victory, and provided you with good things - that you might be grateful.
8:27
يَـٰٓ أَيُّهَا
O you
who
ءَامَنُواۡ
believe
لَا
(Do) not
تَخُونُواۡ
betray
Allah
وَٱ ل رَّسُولَ
and the Messenger
وَتَخُونُوٓ اۡ
or betray
أَمَـٰ نَـٰ تِكُمۡ
your trusts
وَأَنت ُمۡ
while you
تَعۡلَمُو نَ
٢٧know
O you who have believed, do not betray Allāh and the Messenger or betray your trusts while you know [the consequence].
8:28
وَٱ عۡلَمُوٓ اۡ
And know
أَنّ َمَآ
that
أَمۡوٰ
your wealth
وَأَوۡلَـٰ دُكُمۡ
and your children
فِتۡنَةٌ
(are) a trial
And that
Allah
عِند َهُۥٓ
with Him
أَجۡ رٌ
(is) a reward
عَظِي مٌ
٢٨great
And know that your properties and your children are but a trial and that Allāh has with Him a great reward.
8:29
يَـٰٓ أَيُّهَا
O you
who
ءَامَنُوٓ اۡ
believe
إِن
If
you fear
Allah
يَجۡ عَل
He will grant
لَّكُمۡ
you
فُرۡقَانًا
a criterion
and will remove
عَنك ُمۡ
from you
سَيِّـَٔـاتِكُمۡ
your evil deeds
وَيَغۡفِرۡ
and forgive
لَكُمۡۗ
you
وَٱ للَّهُ
And Allah
ذُو
(is) the Possessor
(of) Bounty
the Great
O you who have believed, if you fear Allāh, He will grant you a criterion1 and will remove from you your misdeeds and forgive you. And Allāh is the possessor of great bounty.
8:30
وَإِذۡ
And when
يَمۡكُرُ
plotted
بِكَ
against you
those who
كَفَرُواۡ
disbelieved
لِيُثۡبِتُوكَ
that they restrain you
أَوۡ
or
يَقۡ تُلُوكَ
kill you
أَوۡ
or
يُخۡرِجُوكَۚ
drive you out
وَيَمۡكُرُونَ
And they were planning
وَيَمۡكُرُ
and (also) was planning
Allah
وَٱ للَّهُ
And Allah
خَيۡرُ
is (the) Best
(of) the Planners
And [remember, O Muḥammad], when those who disbelieved plotted against you to restrain you or kill you or evict you [from Makkah]. But they plan, and Allāh plans. And Allāh is the best of planners.
8:31
وَإِذَا
And when
تُتۡلَىٰ
are recited
عَلَيۡهِمۡ
to them
ءَايَـٰ تُنَا
Our Verses
قَالُواۡ
they say
قَدۡ
Verily
سَمِعۡنَا
we have heard
لَوۡ
if
نَشَا ٓءُ
we wish
لَقُلۡنَا
surely, we could say
مِثۡلَ
like
هَـٰ ذَآۙ
this
إِنۡ
Not
هَـٰ ذَآ
is this
إِلَّآ
but
أَسَـٰ طِيرُ
tales
(of) the former (people)
And when Our verses are recited to them, they say, "We have heard. If we willed, we could say [something] like this. This is not but legends of the former peoples."
8:32
وَإِذۡ
And when
قَالُواۡ
they said
O Allah
إِن
If
was
هَـٰ ذَا
this
هُوَ
[it]
the truth
مِنۡ
[of]
عِند ِكَ
from You
فَأَمۡطِرۡ
then (send) rain
عَلَيۡنَا
upon us
حِجَارَةً
(of) stones
from
the sky
أَوِ
or
bring (upon) us
بِعَذَابٍ
a punishment
أَلِي مٍ
٣٢painful
And [remember] when they said, "O Allāh, if this should be the truth from You, then rain down upon us stones from the sky or bring us a painful punishment."
8:33
وَمَا
But not
كَانَ
is
(for) Allah
لِيُعَذِّبَهُمۡ
that He punishes them
وَأَنت َ
while you
فِيهِمۡۚ
(are) among them
وَمَا
and not
كَانَ
is
Allah
مُعَذِّبَهُمۡ
the One Who punishes them
وَهُمۡ
while they
يَسۡتَغۡفِرُو نَ
٣٣seek forgiveness
But Allāh would not punish them while you, [O Muḥammad], are among them, and Allāh would not punish them while they seek forgiveness.
8:34
وَمَا
But what
لَهُمۡ
(is) for them
أَلَّا
that not
يُعَذِّبَهُمُ
(should) punish them
Allah
وَهُمۡ
while they
يَصُدُّونَ
hinder (people)
عَنِ
from
Al-Masjid
Al-Haraam
وَمَا
while not
كَانُوٓ اۡ
they are
أَوۡلِيَا ٓءَهُۥٓۚ
its guardians
إِنۡ
Not (can be)
أَوۡلِيَا ٓؤُهُۥٓ
its guardians
إِلَّا
except
the ones who fear Allah
وَلَـٰ كِنّ َ
but
أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ
most of them
لَا
(do) not
يَعۡلَمُو نَ
٣٤know
But why should Allāh not punish them while they obstruct [people] from al-Masjid al-Ḥarām and they were not [fit to be] its guardians? Its [true] guardians are not but the righteous, but most of them do not know.
8:35
وَمَا
And not
كَانَ
was
صَلَاتُهُمۡ
their prayer
عِند َ
at
the House
إِلَّا
except
مُكَا ٓءً
whistling
and clapping
So taste
the punishment
بِمَا
because
كُنت ُمۡ
you used to
تَكۡفُرُو نَ
٣٥disbelieve
And their prayer at the House [i.e., the Kaʿbah] was not except whistling and handclapping. So taste the punishment for what you disbelieved [i.e., practiced of deviations].
8:36
إِنّ َ
Indeed
those who
كَفَرُواۡ
disbelieve
يُنف ِقُونَ
they spend
أَمۡوٰ
their wealth
لِيَصُدُّواۡ
to hinder (people)
عَن
from
(the) way
(of) Allah
فَسَيُنف ِقُونَهَا
So they will spend it
ثُمّ َ
then
تَكُونُ
it will be
عَلَيۡهِمۡ
for them
حَسۡرَةً
a regret
then
يُغۡلَبُونَۗ
they will be overcome
وَٱ لَّذِينَ
And those who
كَفَرُوٓ اۡ
disbelieve
إِلَىٰ
to
جَهَنّ َمَ
Hell
يُحۡشَرُو نَ
٣٦they will be gathered
Indeed, those who disbelieve spend their wealth to avert [people] from the way of Allāh. So they will spend it; then it will be for them a [source of] regret; then they will be overcome. And those who have disbelieved - unto Hell they will be gathered.
8:37
لِيَمِيزَ
That may distinguish
Allah
the wicked
مِنَ
from
the good
وَيَجۡ عَلَ
and place
the wicked
بَعۡضَهُۥ
some of them
عَلَىٰ
on
بَعۡضٍ
others
and heap them
جَمِيعًا
all together
and put them
فِى
in
جَهَنّ َمَۚ
Hell
أُوۡ لَـٰٓ ئِكَ
Those
هُمُ
they
(are) the losers
[It is] so that Allāh may distinguish the wicked from the good and place the wicked some of them upon others and heap them all together and put them into Hell. It is those who are the losers.
8:38
قُل
Say
لِّلَّذِينَ
to those who
كَفَرُوٓ اۡ
disbelieve
إِن
if
they cease
يُغۡفَرۡ
will be forgiven
لَهُم
for them
what
قَدۡ
[verily]
سَلَفَ
(is) past
وَإِن
But if
they return
فَقَدۡ
then verily
مَضَتۡ
preceded
سُنّ َتُ
(the) practice
(of) the former (people)
Say to those who have disbelieved [that] if they cease, what has previously occurred will be forgiven for them. But if they return [to hostility] - then the precedent of the former [rebellious] peoples has already taken place.1
8:39
وَقَـٰ تِلُوهُمۡ
And fight them
حَتَّىٰ
until
لَا
not
تَكُونَ
there is
فِتۡنَةٌ
oppression
and is
the religion
كُلُّهُۥ
all of it
لِلَّهِۚ
for Allah
فَإِنِ
But if
they cease
فَإِنّ َ
then indeed
Allah
بِمَا
of what
يَعۡمَلُونَ
they do
بَصِي رٌ
٣٩(is) All-Seer
And fight against them until there is no fitnah1 and [until] the religion [i.e., worship], all of it, is for Allāh.2 And if they cease - then indeed, Allāh is Seeing of what they do.
8:40
وَإِن
And if
they turn away
فَٱ عۡلَمُوٓ اۡ
then know
أَنّ َ
that
Allah
مَوۡلَـٰ كُمۡۚ
(is) your Protector
نِعۡمَ
Excellent
(is) the Protector
وَنِعۡمَ
and Excellent
(is) the Helper
But if they turn away - then know that Allāh is your protector. Excellent is the protector, and excellent is the helper.
8:41
۞وَٱ عۡلَمُوٓ اۡ
And know
أَنّ َمَا
that what
غَنِمۡتُم
you obtain (as) spoils of war
of
anything
then that
لِلَّهِ
for Allah
خُمُسَهُۥ
(is) one fifth of it
وَلِلرَّسُولِ
and for the Messenger
وَلِذِى
and for the
near relatives
وَٱ لۡيَتَـٰ مَىٰ
and the orphans
وَٱ لۡمَسَـٰ كِينِ
and the needy
وَٱ بۡ نِ
and the
wayfarer
إِن
if
you
ءَامَنت ُم
believe
in Allah
وَمَآ
and (in) what
أَنز َلۡنَا
We sent down
عَلَىٰ
to
عَبۡ دِنَا
Our slave
يَوۡمَ
(on the) day
(of) the criterion
يَوۡمَ
(the) day
(when) met
the two forces
وَٱ للَّهُ
And Allah
عَلَىٰ
(is) on
كُلِّ
every
شَىۡءٍ
thing
All-Powerful
And know that anything you obtain of war booty - then indeed, for Allāh is one fifth of it and for the Messenger1 and for [his] near relatives2 and the orphans, the needy, and the [stranded] traveler,3 if you have believed in Allāh and in that which We sent down to Our Servant4 on the day of criterion [i.e., decisive encounter] - the day when the two armies met [at Badr]. And Allāh, over all things, is competent.
8:42
إِذۡ
When
أَنت ُم
you (were)
on side of the valley
the nearer
وَهُم
and they
(were) on the side
the farther
وَٱ ل رَّكۡبُ
and the caravan
أَسۡفَلَ
(was) lower
مِنك ُمۡۚ
than you
وَلَوۡ
And if
تَوَاعَد تُّمۡ
you (had) made an appointment
لَٱ خۡتَلَفۡتُمۡ
certainly you would have failed
فِى
in
the appointment
وَلَـٰ كِن
But
that might accomplish
Allah
أَمۡرًا
a matter
(that) was
مَفۡعُولاً
destined
that (might be) destroyed
مَنۡ
(those) who
هَلَكَ
(were to be) destroyed
عَنۢ
on
a clear evidence
and (might) live
مَنۡ
(those) who
حَىَّ
(were to) live
عَنۢ
on
a clear evidence
And indeed
Allah
لَسَمِيعٌ
(is) All-Hearing
عَلِي مٌ
٤٢All-Knowing
[Remember] when you were on the near side of the valley, and they were on the farther side, and the caravan was lower [in position] than you. If you had made an appointment [to meet], you would have missed the appointment. But [it was] so that Allāh might accomplish a matter already destined - that those who perished [through disbelief] would perish upon evidence and those who lived [in faith] would live upon evidence; and indeed, Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.
8:43
إِذۡ
When
يُرِيكَهُمُ
you (where) shown them
(by) Allah
فِى
in
مَنَامِكَ
your dream
قَلِيلاًۖ
(as) few
and if
أَرَٮٰ كَهُمۡ
He had shown them to you
كَثِيرًا
(as) many
surely you would have lost courage
وَلَتَنَـٰ زَعۡتُمۡ
and surely you would have disputed
فِى
in
the matter
وَلَـٰ كِنّ َ
but
Allah
سَلَّمَۗ
saved (you)
إِنّ َهُۥ
Indeed, He
عَلِيمُۢ
(is) All-Knower
of what is in
the breasts
[Remember, O Muḥammad], when Allāh showed them to you in your dream as few; and if He had shown them to you as many, you [believers] would have lost courage and would have disputed in the matter [of whether to fight], but Allāh saved [you from that]. Indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts.
8:44
وَإِذۡ
And when
يُرِيكُمُوهُمۡ
He showed them to you
إِذِ
when
you met
فِىٓ
in
أَعۡيُنِكُمۡ
your eyes
قَلِيلاً
(as) few
and He made you (appear) as few
فِىٓ
in
أَعۡيُنِهِمۡ
their eyes
لِيَقۡ ضِىَ
that might accomplish
Allah might accomplish
أَمۡرًا
a matter
(that) was
مَفۡعُولاًۗ
(already) destined
And to
Allah
تُرۡجَعُ
return
(all) the matters
And [remember] when He showed them to you, when you met, as few in your eyes, and He made you [appear] as few in their eyes so that Allāh might accomplish a matter already destined. And to Allāh are [all] matters returned.
8:45
يَـٰٓ أَيُّهَا
O you
who
ءَامَنُوٓ اۡ
believe
إِذَا
When
لَقِيتُمۡ
you meet
فِئَةً
a force
then be firm
وَٱ ذۡكُرُواۡ
and remember
Allah
كَثِيرًا
much
so that you may
تُفۡلِحُو نَ
٤٥(be) successful
O you who have believed, when you encounter a company [from the enemy forces], stand firm and remember Allāh much that you may be successful.
8:46
وَأَطِيعُواۡ
And obey
Allah
وَرَسُولَهُۥ
and His Messenger
وَلَا
and (do) not
تَنَـٰ زَعُواۡ
dispute
فَتَفۡشَلُواۡ
lest you lose courage
وَتَذۡهَبَ
and (would) depart
رِيحُكُمۡۖ
your strength
وَٱ صۡبِرُوٓاۡ ۚ
and be patient
إِنّ َ
Indeed
Allah
مَعَ
(is) with
the patient ones
And obey Allāh and His Messenger, and do not dispute and [thus] lose courage and [then] your strength would depart; and be patient. Indeed, Allāh is with the patient.
8:47
وَلَا
And (do) not
تَكُونُواۡ
be
كَٱ لَّذِينَ
like those who
خَرَجُواۡ
came forth
مِن
from
their homes
boastfully
and showing off
(to) the people
وَيَصُدُّونَ
and hinder (them)
عَن
from
(the) way
(of) Allah
وَٱ للَّهُ
And Allah
بِمَا
of what
يَعۡمَلُونَ
they do
مُحِي ط ٌ
٤٧(is) All-Encompassing
And do not be like those who came forth from their homes insolently and to be seen by people and avert [them] from the way of Allāh. And Allāh is encompassing1 of what they do.
8:48
وَإِذۡ
And when
زَيَّنَ
made fair-seeming
لَهُمُ
to them
the Shaitaan
أَعۡمَـٰ لَهُمۡ
their deeds
وَقَالَ
and he said
لَا
No (one)
غَالِبَ
(can) overcome
لَكُمُ
[to] you
today
مِنَ
from
the people
وَإِنّ ِى
and indeed, I am
جَارٌ
a neighbor
for you
فَلَمّ َا
But when
تَرَا ٓءَتِ
came in sight
the two forces
نَكَصَ
he turned away
عَلَىٰ
on
عَقِبَيۡهِ
his heels
وَقَالَ
and said
إِنّ ِى
Indeed, I am
بَرِى ٓءٌ
free
of you
إِنّ ِىٓ
Indeed, I
أَرَىٰ
see
مَا
what
لَا
not
تَرَوۡنَ
you see
إِنّ ِىٓ
indeed, I
أَخَافُ
[I] fear
Allah
وَٱ للَّهُ
And Allah
شَدِيدُ
(is) severe
(in) the penalty
And [remember] when Satan made their deeds pleasing to them and said, "No one can overcome you today from among the people, and indeed, I am your protector." But when the two armies sighted each other, he turned on his heels and said, "Indeed, I am disassociated from you. Indeed, I see what you do not see; indeed, I fear Allāh. And Allāh is severe in penalty."
8:49
إِذۡ
When
يَقُولُ
said
the hypocrites
وَٱ لَّذِينَ
and those who
فِى
in
قُلُوبِهِم
their hearts
(was) a disease
غَرَّ
(Had) deluded
هَـٰٓ ؤُلَا ٓءِ
these (people)
دِينُهُمۡۗ
their religion
وَمَن
But whoever
puts (his) trust
عَلَى
in
Allah
فَإِنّ َ
then indeed
Allah
عَزِيزٌ
(is) All-Mighty
حَكِي مٌ
٤٩All-Wise
[Remember] when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts was disease [i.e., arrogance and disbelief] said, "Their religion has deluded those [Muslims]." But whoever relies upon Allāh - then indeed, Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.
8:50
وَلَوۡ
And if
تَرَىٰٓ
you (could) see
إِذۡ
when
يَتَوَفَّى
take away souls
(of) those who
كَفَرُواۡۙ
disbelieve
the Angels
يَضۡرِبُونَ
striking
وُجُوهَهُمۡ
their faces
وَأَدۡ بَـٰ رَهُمۡ
and their backs
وَذُوقُواۡ
Taste
عَذَابَ
(the) punishment
(of) the Blazing Fire
And if you could but see when the angels take the souls of those who disbelieved...1 They are striking their faces and their backs and [saying], "Taste the punishment of the Burning Fire.
8:51
ذٰ
That
بِمَا
(is) for what
قَدَّمَتۡ
sent forth
أَيۡدِيكُمۡ
your hands
وَأَنّ َ
And indeed
Allah
لَيۡسَ
(is) not
بِظَلَّـٰ مٍ
unjust
to His slaves
That is for what your hands have put forth [of evil] and because Allāh is not ever unjust to [His] servants."
8:52
كَدَأۡبِ
Like (the) way
ءَالِ
(of) people
فِرۡعَوۡنَۙ
(of) Firaun
وَٱ لَّذِينَ
and those who
مِن
(were) from
before them
كَفَرُواۡ
They disbelieved
بِـَٔـايَـٰ تِ
in (the) Signs
(of) Allah
فَأَخَذَهُمُ
so seized them
Allah
بِذُنُوبِهِمۡۗ
for their sins
إِنّ َ
Indeed
Allah
قَوِىٌّ
(is) All-Strong
(and) severe
(in) the penalty
[Theirs is] like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and of those before them. They disbelieved in the signs of Allāh, so Allāh seized them for their sins. Indeed, Allāh is Powerful and severe in penalty.
8:53
ذٰ
That
بِأَنّ َ
(is) because
Allah
لَمۡ
not
يَكُ
is
مُغَيِّرًا
One Who changes
a favor
أَنۡعَمَهَا
which He had bestowed
عَلَىٰ
on
قَوۡمٍ
a people
حَتَّىٰ
until
يُغَيِّرُواۡ
they change
مَا
what
بِأَنف ُسِهِمۡۙ
(is) in themselves
وَأَنّ َ
And indeed
Allah
سَمِيعٌ
(is) All-Hearing
عَلِي مٌ
٥٣All-Knowing
That is because Allāh would not change a favor which He had bestowed upon a people until they change what is within themselves. And indeed, Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.
8:54
كَدَأۡبِ
Like (the) way
ءَالِ
(of) people
فِرۡعَوۡنَۙ
(of) Firaun
وَٱ لَّذِينَ
and those who
مِن
(were) from
before them
كَذَّبُواۡ
They denied
بِـَٔـايَـٰ تِ
(the) Signs
رَبِّهِمۡ
(of) their Lord
فَأَهۡلَكۡنَـٰ هُم
so We destroyed them
for their sins
وَأَغۡرَقۡ نَآ
and We drowned
ءَالَ
(the) people
فِرۡعَوۡنَۚ
(of) Firaun
وَكُلٌّ
and (they) all
were
ظَـٰ لِمِي نَ
٥٤wrongdoers
[Theirs is] like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and of those before them. They denied the signs of their Lord, so We destroyed them for their sins, and We drowned the people of Pharaoh. And all [of them] were wrongdoers.
8:55
إِنّ َ
Indeed
شَرَّ
(the) worst
(of) the living creatures
عِند َ
near
Allah
(are) those who
كَفَرُواۡ
disbelieve
فَهُمۡ
and they
لَا
(will) not
يُؤۡمِنُو نَ
٥٥believe
Indeed, the worst of living creatures in the sight of Allāh are those who have disbelieved, and they will not [ever] believe-
8:56
ٱلَّذِينَ
Those who
عَـٰ هَد تَّ
you made a covenant
مِنۡهُمۡ
with them
ثُمّ َ
then
يَنق ُضُونَ
they break
عَهۡدَهُمۡ
their covenant
فِى
[in]
كُلِّ
every
مَرَّةٍ
time
and they
لَا
(do) not
يَتَّقُو نَ
٥٦fear (Allah)
The ones with whom you made a treaty but then they break their pledge every time, and they do not fear Allāh.
8:57
فَإِمّ َا
So if
تَثۡقَفَنّ َهُمۡ
you gain dominance over them
فِى
in
the war
فَشَرِّدۡ
disperse
بِهِم
by them
(those) who
خَلۡفَهُمۡ
(are) behind them
لَعَلَّهُمۡ
so that they may
يَذَّكَّرُو نَ
٥٧take heed
So if you, [O Muḥammad], gain dominance over them in war, disperse by [means of] them those behind them that perhaps they will be reminded.1
8:58
وَإِمّ َا
And if
تَخَافَنّ َ
you fear
مِن
from
a people
خِيَانَةً
betrayal
throw back
إِلَيۡهِمۡ
to them
عَلَىٰ
on
سَوَا ٓءٍۚ
equal (terms)
إِنّ َ
Indeed
Allah
لَا
(does) not
يُحِبُّ
love
the traitors
If you [have reason to] fear from a people betrayal, throw [their treaty] back to them, [putting you] on equal terms.1 Indeed, Allāh does not like traitors.
8:59
وَلَا
And (let) not
يَحۡسَبَنّ َ
think
those who
كَفَرُواۡ
disbelieve
سَبَقُوٓاۡ ۚ
they can outstrip
إِنّ َهُمۡ
Indeed, they
لَا
(can) not
يُعۡجِزُو نَ
٥٩escape
And let not those who disbelieve think they will escape. Indeed, they will not cause failure [to Allāh].
8:60
وَأَعِدُّواۡ
And prepare
لَهُم
for them
whatever
you able (to)
of
force
and of
tethered
horses
تُرۡهِبُونَ
(to) terrify
بِهِۦ
therewith
عَدُوَّ
(the) enemy
(of) Allah
وَعَدُوَّكُمۡ
and your enemy
وَءَاخَرِينَ
and others
مِن
from
besides them
لَا
not
تَعۡلَمُونَهُمُ
(do) you know them
(but) Allah
يَعۡلَمُهُمۡۚ
knows them
وَمَا
And whatever
تُنف ِقُواۡ
you spend
مِن
from
(any) thing
in
سَبِيلِ
(the) way
(of) Allah
يُوَفَّ
it will be fully repaid
إِلَيۡكُمۡ
to you
وَأَنت ُمۡ
and you
لَا
(will) not
تُظۡلَمُو نَ
٦٠be wronged
And prepare against them whatever you are able of power and of steeds of war1 by which you may terrify the enemy of Allāh and your enemy and others besides them whom you do not know [but] whom Allāh knows. And whatever you spend in the cause of Allāh will be fully repaid to you, and you will not be wronged.
8:61
۞وَإِن
And if
they incline
لِلسَّلۡمِ
to peace
فَٱ جۡ نَحۡ
then you (also) incline
لَهَا
to it
وَتَوَكَّلۡ
and put (your) trust
عَلَى
in
Allah
إِنّ َهُۥ
Indeed
هُوَ
He
(is) All-Hearer
All-Knower
And if they incline to peace, then incline to it [also] and rely upon Allāh. Indeed, it is He who is the Hearing, the Knowing.
8:62
وَإِن
But if
they intend
أَن
to
deceive you
فَإِنّ َ
then indeed
حَسۡبَكَ
is sufficient for you
Allah
هُوَ
He
(is) the One Who
أَيَّدَكَ
supported you
بِنَصۡرِهِۦ
with His help
وَبِٱ لۡمُؤۡمِنِي نَ
٦٢and with the believers
But if they intend to deceive you - then sufficient for you is Allāh. It is He who supported you with His help and with the believers
8:63
وَأَلَّفَ
And He (has) put affection
بَيۡنَ
between
قُلُوبِهِمۡۚ
their hearts
لَوۡ
If
أَنف َقۡ تَ
you (had) spent
مَا
whatever
فِى
(is) in
the earth
جَمِيعًا
all
not
أَلَّفۡتَ
(could) you (have) put affection
بَيۡنَ
between
قُلُوبِهِمۡ
their hearts
وَلَـٰ كِنّ َ
but
Allah
أَلَّفَ
(has) put affection
بَيۡنَهُمۡۚ
between them
إِنّ َهُۥ
Indeed, He
عَزِيزٌ
(is) All-Mighty
حَكِي مٌ
٦٣All-Wise
And brought together their hearts. If you had spent all that is in the earth, you could not have brought their hearts together; but Allāh brought them together. Indeed, He is Exalted in Might and Wise.
8:64
يَـٰٓ أَيُّهَا
O
Prophet
حَسۡبُكَ
Sufficient for you
(is) Allah
وَمَنِ
and whoever
follows you
مِنَ
of
the believers
O Prophet, sufficient for you is Allāh and for whoever follows you of the believers.
8:65
يَـٰٓ أَيُّهَا
O
Prophet
حَرِّضِ
Urge
the believers
عَلَى
to
[the] fight
إِن
If
(there) are
among you
عِشۡرُونَ
twenty
صَـٰ بِرُونَ
steadfast
يَغۡلِبُواۡ
they will overcome
مِاۡ ئَتَيۡنِۚ
two hundred
وَإِن
And if
(there) are
among you
a hundred
they will overcome
أَلۡفًا
a thousand
of
those who
كَفَرُواۡ
disbelieve
بِأَنّ َهُمۡ
because they
قَوۡمٌ
(are) a people
(who do) not
يَفۡقَهُو نَ
٦٥understand
O Prophet, urge the believers to battle. If there are among you twenty [who are] steadfast, they will overcome two hundred. And if there are among you one hundred [who are steadfast], they will overcome a thousand of those who have disbelieved because they are a people who do not understand.
8:66
ٱلۡـَٔـٰ نَ
Now
خَفَّفَ
has (been) lightened
(by) Allah
عَنك ُمۡ
for you
وَعَلِمَ
and He knows
أَنّ َ
that
فِيكُمۡ
in you
ضَعۡفًاۚ
(there) is weakness
So if
(there) are
among you
a hundred
steadfast
they will overcome
مِاۡ ئَتَيۡنِۚ
two hundred
وَإِن
And if
(there) are
among you
أَلۡفٌ
a thousand
they will overcome
أَلۡفَيۡنِ
two thousand
بِإِذۡنِ
with (the) permission
(of) Allah
وَٱ للَّهُ
And Allah
مَعَ
(is) with
the steadfast
Now, Allāh has lightened [the hardship] for you, and He knows that among you is weakness. So if there are from you one hundred [who are] steadfast, they will overcome two hundred. And if there are among you a thousand, they will overcome two thousand by permission of Allāh. And Allāh is with the steadfast.
8:67
مَا
Not
كَانَ
is
لِنَبِىٍّ
for a Prophet
أَن
that
(there) should be
لَهُۥٓ
for him
أَسۡرَىٰ
prisoners of war
حَتَّىٰ
until
يُثۡخِنَ
he has battled strenuously
فِى
in
the land
تُرِيدُونَ
You desire
عَرَضَ
(the) commodities
(of) the world
وَٱ للَّهُ
but Allah
يُرِيدُ
desires
(for you) the Hereafter
وَٱ للَّهُ
And Allah
عَزِيزٌ
(is) All-Mighty
حَكِي مٌ
٦٧All-Wise
It is not for a prophet to have captives [of war] until he inflicts a massacre [upon Allāh's enemies] in the land. You [i.e., some Muslims] desire the commodities of this world,1 but Allāh desires [for you] the Hereafter. And Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.
8:68
لَّوۡلَا
Had not
كِتَـٰ بٌ
an ordainment
from
Allah
سَبَقَ
preceded
لَمَسَّكُمۡ
surely (would) have touched you
فِيمَآ
for what
أَخَذۡتُمۡ
you took
عَذَابٌ
a punishment
عَظِي مٌ
٦٨great
If not for a decree from Allāh that preceded,1 you would have been touched for what you took by a great punishment.
8:69
فَكُلُواۡ
So eat
مِمّ َا
from what
غَنِمۡتُمۡ
you got as war booty
حَلَـٰ لاً
lawful
(and) good
and fear
Allah
إِنّ َ
Indeed
Allah
غَفُورٌ
(is) Oft-Forgiving
Most Merciful
So consume what you have taken of war booty [as being] lawful and good, and fear Allāh. Indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.
8:70
يَـٰٓ أَيُّهَا
O
Prophet
قُل
Say
لِّمَن
to whoever
(is) in
أَيۡدِيكُم
your hands
of
the captives
إِن
If
knows
Allah
فِى
in
قُلُوبِكُمۡ
your hearts
خَيۡرًا
any good
He will give you
خَيۡرًا
better
than what
أُخِذَ
was taken
مِنك ُمۡ
from you
وَيَغۡفِرۡ
and He will forgive
لَكُمۡۗ
you
وَٱ للَّهُ
And Allah
غَفُورٌ
(is) Oft-Forgiving
Most Merciful
O Prophet, say to whoever is in your hands of the captives, "If Allāh knows [any] good in your hearts, He will give you [something] better than what was taken from you, and He will forgive you; and Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful."
8:71
وَإِن
But if
they intend
خِيَانَتَكَ
(to) betray you
فَقَدۡ
certainly
خَانُواۡ
they have betrayed
Allah
مِن
from
before
فَأَمۡكَنَ
So He gave (you) power
مِنۡهُمۡۗ
over them
وَٱ للَّهُ
And Allah
عَلِيمٌ
(is) All-Knower
حَكِي مٌ
٧١All-Wise
But if they intend to betray you - then they have already betrayed Allāh before, and He empowered [you] over them. And Allāh is Knowing and Wise.
8:72
إِنّ َ
Indeed
those who
ءَامَنُواۡ
believed
وَهَاجَرُواۡ
and emigrated
وَجَـٰ هَدُواۡ
and strove hard
بِأَمۡوٰ
with their wealth
وَأَنف ُسِهِمۡ
and their lives
فِى
in
سَبِيلِ
(the) way
(of) Allah
وَٱ لَّذِينَ
and those who
ءَاوَواۡ
gave shelter
وَّنَصَرُوٓ اۡ
and helped
أُوۡ لَـٰٓ ئِكَ
those
بَعۡضُهُمۡ
some of them
أَوۡلِيَا ٓءُ
(are) allies
بَعۡضٍۚ
(of) another
But those who
ءَامَنُواۡ
believed
وَلَمۡ
and (did) not
يُهَاجِرُواۡ
emigrate
مَا
(it is) not
لَكُم
for you
(of)
their protection
(in)
(in) anything
حَتَّىٰ
until
يُهَاجِرُواۡۚ
they emigrate
وَإِنِ
And if
they seek your help
فِى
in
the religion
فَعَلَيۡكُمُ
then upon you
(is to) help them
إِلَّا
except
عَلَىٰ
against
قَوۡمِۭ
a people
between you
وَبَيۡنَهُم
and between them
(is) a treaty
And Allah
بِمَا
of what
تَعۡمَلُونَ
you do
بَصِي رٌ
٧٢(is) All-Seer
Indeed, those who have believed and emigrated and fought with their wealth and lives in the cause of Allāh and those who gave shelter and aided - they are allies of one another. But those who believed and did not emigrate - for you there is no support of them until they emigrate. And if they seek help of you for the religion, then you must help, except against a people between yourselves and whom is a treaty. And Allāh is Seeing of what you do.
8:73
وَٱ لَّذِينَ
And those who
كَفَرُواۡ
disbelieve
بَعۡضُهُمۡ
some of them
أَوۡلِيَا ٓءُ
(are) allies
بَعۡضٍۚ
(to) another
إِلَّا
If not
تَفۡعَلُوهُ
you do it
تَكُن
(there) will be
oppression
in
the earth
وَفَسَادٌ
and corruption
great
And those who disbelieved are allies of one another. If you do not do so [i.e., ally yourselves with other believers], there will be fitnah [i.e., disbelief and oppression] on earth and great corruption.
8:74
وَٱ لَّذِينَ
And those who
ءَامَنُواۡ
believed
وَهَاجَرُواۡ
and emigrated
وَجَـٰ هَدُواۡ
and strove hard
فِى
in
سَبِيلِ
(the) way
(of) Allah
وَٱ لَّذِينَ
and those who
ءَاوَواۡ
gave shelter
وَّنَصَرُوٓ اۡ
and helped
أُوۡ لَـٰٓ ئِكَ
those
هُمُ
they (are)
the believers
حَقًّاۚ
(in) truth
For them
(is) forgiveness
and a provision
noble
But those who have believed and emigrated and fought in the cause of Allāh and those who gave shelter and aided - it is they who are the believers, truly. For them is forgiveness and noble provision.
8:75
وَٱ لَّذِينَ
And those who
ءَامَنُواۡ
believed
مِنۢ
from
afterwards
وَهَاجَرُواۡ
and emigrated
وَجَـٰ هَدُواۡ
and strove hard
مَعَكُمۡ
with you
فَأُوۡ لَـٰٓ ئِكَ
then those
مِنك ُمۡۚ
(are) of you
وَأُوۡ لُواۡ
But those
(of) blood relationship
بَعۡضُهُمۡ
some of them
أَوۡلَىٰ
(are) nearer
بِبَعۡضٍ
to another
in
كِتَـٰ بِ
(the) Book
(of) Allah
إِنّ َ
Indeed
Allah
بِكُلِّ
of every
شَىۡءٍ
thing
عَلِي مُۢ
٧٥(is) All-Knower
And those who believed after [the initial emigration] and emigrated and fought with you - they are of you. But those of [blood] relationship are more entitled [to inheritance] in the decree of Allāh.1 Indeed, Allāh is Knowing of all things.
