Al-A'la

The Most High19 Verses6 Hadithsmakkah

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

✦

87:1

سَبِّحِ

Glorify

ٱسۡمَ

(the) name

رَبِّكَ

(of) your Lord

ٱلۡأَعۡلَى

the Most High

Exalt the name of your Lord, the Most High,

87:2

ٱلَّذِى

The One Who

خَلَقَ

created

فَسَوَّىٰ

then proportioned

Who created and proportioned

87:3

وَٱلَّذِى

And the One Who

قَدَّرَ

measured

فَهَدَىٰ

then guided

And who destined and [then] guided

87:4

وَٱلَّذِىٓ

And the One Who

أَخۡرَجَ

brings forth

ٱلۡمَرۡعَىٰ

the pasture

And who brings out the pasture

87:5

فَجَعَلَهُۥ

And then makes it

غُثَآءً

stubble

أَحۡوَىٰ

dark

And [then] makes it black stubble.

87:6

سَنُقۡرِئُكَ

We will make you recite

فَلَا

so not

تَنسَىٰٓ

you will forget

We will make you recite, [O Muḥammad], and you will not forget,

87:7

إِلَّا

Except

مَا

what

شَآءَ

wills

ٱللَّهُ‌ۚ

Allah

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, He

يَعۡلَمُ

knows

ٱلۡجَهۡرَ

the manifest

وَمَا

and what

يَخۡفَىٰ

is hidden

Except what Allāh should will. Indeed, He knows what is declared and what is hidden.

87:8

وَنُيَسِّرُكَ

And We will ease you

لِلۡيُسۡرَىٰ

to the ease

And We will ease you toward ease.¹

87:9

فَذَكِّرۡ

So remind

إِن

نَّفَعَتِ

benefits

ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰ

the reminder

So remind, if the reminder should benefit;¹

87:10

سَيَذَّكَّرُ

He will pay heed

مَن

(one) who

يَخۡشَىٰ

fears (Allah)

١٠

He who fears [Allāh] will be reminded.

87:11

وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا

And will avoid it

ٱلۡأَشۡقَى

the wretched one

١١

But the wretched one will avoid it

87:12

ٱلَّذِى

The one who

يَصۡلَى

will burn

ٱلنَّارَ

(in) the Fire

ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰ

[the] great

١٢

[He] who will [enter and] burn in the greatest Fire,

87:13

ثُمَّ

Then

لَا

not

يَمُوتُ

he will die

فِيهَا

therein

وَلَا

and not

يَحۡيَىٰ

will live

١٣

Neither dying therein nor living.

87:14

قَدۡ

Certainly

أَفۡلَحَ

has succeeded

مَن

(one) who

تَزَكَّىٰ

purifies (himself)

١٤

He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself

87:15

وَذَكَرَ

And remembers

ٱسۡمَ

(the) name

رَبِّهِۦ

(of) his Lord

فَصَلَّىٰ

and prays

١٥

And mentions the name of his Lord and prays.

87:16

بَلۡ

Nay

تُؤۡثِرُونَ

You prefer

ٱلۡحَيَوٰةَ

the life

ٱلدُّنۡيَا

(of) the world

١٦

But you prefer the worldly life,

87:17

وَٱلۡأَخِرَةُ

While the Hereafter

خَيۡرٌ

(is) better

وَأَبۡقَىٰٓ

and everlasting

١٧

While the Hereafter is better and more enduring.

87:18

إِنَّ

Indeed

هَـٰذَا

this

لَفِى

surely (is) in

ٱلصُّحُفِ

the Scriptures

ٱلۡأُولَىٰ

[the] former

١٨

Indeed, this is in the former scriptures,

87:19

صُحُفِ

(The) Scriptures

إِبۡرٰهِيمَ

(of) Ibrahim

وَمُوسَىٰ

and Musa

١٩

The scriptures of Abraham and Moses.
