your Lord
لَبِٱ لۡمِرۡصَا د ِ

89:15
فَأَمّ َا
And as for
man
إِذَا
when
مَا
does
try him
رَبُّهُۥ
his Lord
فَأَكۡرَمَهُۥ
and is generous to him
وَنَعَّمَهُۥ
and favors him
فَيَقُولُ
he says
رَبِّىٓ
My Lord
أَكۡرَمَنِ
١٥has honored me
And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me."1
89:16
وَأَمّ َآ
But
إِذَا
when
مَا
does
He try him
فَقَدَرَ
and restricts
عَلَيۡهِ
for him

١٦(has) humiliated me
But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me."
89:17
كَلَّاۖ
Nay
بَل
But
لَّا
not
تُكۡرِمُونَ
you honor
the orphan
No!1 But you do not honor the orphan
89:18
وَلَا
And not

وَتُحِبُّونَ
And you love
wealth
حُبًّا
(with) love
immense
And you love wealth with immense love.
89:21
كَلَّآ
Nay
إِذَا
When
دُكَّتِ
is leveled
the earth
دَكًّا
pounded
(and) crushed
No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed
89:22
وَجَا ٓءَ
And comes
رَبُّكَ
your Lord
وَٱ لۡمَلَكُ
and the Angels

And your Lord has come1 and the angels, rank upon rank,
89:23
وَجِاۡ ىٓ ءَ
And is brought

that Day
Hell
يَوۡمَئِذٍ
That Day
will remember
man
وَأَنّ َىٰ
but how
لَهُ
(will be) for him
the remembrance
And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but how [i.e., what good] to him will be the remembrance?
89:24
يَقُولُ
He will say
يَـٰ لَيۡتَنِى
O I wish
قَدَّمۡتُ
I had sent forth
لِحَيَاتِى
٢٤for my life
He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life."1
89:25
فَيَوۡمَئِذٍ
So that Day
not
يُعَذِّبُ
will punish
عَذَابَهُۥٓ
(as) His punishment
أَحَد ٌ
٢٥anyone
So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment,
89:26
وَلَا
And not
يُوثِقُ
will bind
وَثَاقَهُۥٓ
(as) His binding
أَحَد ٌ
٢٦anyone
And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers].
89:27
يَـٰٓ أَيَّتُهَا

And have shown him the two ways?1
90:11
