Hizb 29

1 Surahs98 Versesالحزب 29
17:1
سُبۡحَـٰنَ
Exalted
ٱلَّذِىٓ
(is) the One Who
أَسۡرَىٰ
took
بِعَبۡدِهِۦ
His servant
لَيۡلاً
(by) night
مِّنَ
from
ٱلۡمَسۡجِدِ
Al-Masjid Al-Haraam
ٱلۡحَرَامِ
Al-Masjid Al-Haraam
إِلَى
to
ٱلۡمَسۡجِدِ
Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa
ٱلۡأَقۡصَا
Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa
ٱلَّذِى
which
بَـٰرَكۡنَا
We blessed
حَوۡلَهُۥ
its surroundings
لِنُرِيَهُۥ
that We may show him
مِنۡ
of
ءَايَـٰتِنَآ‌ۚ
Our Signs
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed He
هُوَ
He
ٱلسَّمِيعُ
(is) the All-Hearer
ٱلۡبَصِيرُ
the All-Seer
١
Exalted1 is He who took His Servant [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)] by night from al-Masjid al-Ḥarām to al-Masjid al-Aqṣā,2 whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing,3 the Seeing.4
17:2
وَءَاتَيۡنَا
And We gave
مُوسَى
Musa
ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ
the Book
وَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُ
and made it
هُدًى
a guidance
لِّبَنِىٓ
for the Children
إِسۡرٰٓءِيلَ
(of) Israel
أَلَّا
That not
تَتَّخِذُواۡ
you take
مِن
other than Me
دُونِى
other than Me
وَكِيلاً
(as) a Disposer of affairs
٢
And We gave Moses the Scripture and made it a guidance for the Children of Israel that you not take other than Me as Disposer of affairs,1
17:3
ذُرِّيَّةَ
Offsprings
مَنۡ
(of one) who
حَمَلۡنَا
We carried
مَعَ
with
نُوحٍ‌ۚ
Nuh
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed, he
كَانَ
was
عَبۡدًا
a servant
شَكُورًا
grateful
٣
O descendants of those We carried [in the ship] with Noah. Indeed, he was a grateful servant.
17:4
وَقَضَيۡنَآ
And We decreed
إِلَىٰ
for
بَنِىٓ
(the) Children
إِسۡرٰٓءِيلَ
(of) Israel
فِى
in
ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ
the Book
لَتُفۡسِدُنَّ
Surely you will cause corruption
فِى
in
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
the earth
مَرَّتَيۡنِ
twice
وَلَتَعۡلُنَّ
and surely you will reach
عُلُوًّا
haughtiness
كَبِيرًا
great
٤
And We conveyed1 to the Children of Israel in the Scripture that, "You will surely cause corruption on the earth twice, and you will surely reach [a degree of] great haughtiness."
17:5
فَإِذَا
So when
جَآءَ
came
وَعۡدُ
(the) promise
أُولَـٰهُمَا
(for) the first of the two
بَعَثۡنَا
We raised
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
against you
عِبَادًا
servants
لَّنَآ
of Ours
أُوۡلِى
those of great military might
بَأۡسٍ
those of great military might
شَدِيدٍ
those of great military might
فَجَاسُواۡ
and they entered
خِلَـٰلَ
the inner most part
ٱلدِّيَارِ‌ۚ
(of) the homes
وَكَانَ
and (it) was
وَعۡدًا
a promise
مَّفۡعُولاً
fulfilled
٥
So when the [time of] promise came for the first of them,1 We sent against you servants of Ours - those of great military might, and they probed [even] into the homes,2 and it was a promise fulfilled.
17:6
ثُمَّ
Then
رَدَدۡنَا
We gave back
لَكُمُ
to you
ٱلۡكَرَّةَ
the return victory
عَلَيۡهِمۡ
over them
وَأَمۡدَدۡنَـٰكُم
And We reinforced you
بِأَمۡوٰلٍ
with the wealth
وَبَنِينَ
and sons
وَجَعَلۡنَـٰكُمۡ
and made you
أَكۡثَرَ
more
نَفِيرًا
numerous
٦
Then We gave back to you a return victory over them. And We reinforced you with wealth and sons and made you more numerous in manpower.
17:7
إِنۡ
If
أَحۡسَنتُمۡ
you do good
أَحۡسَنتُمۡ
you do good
لِأَنفُسِكُمۡ‌ۖ
for yourselves
وَإِنۡ
and if
أَسَأۡتُمۡ
you do evil
فَلَهَا‌ۚ
then it is for it
فَإِذَا
So when
جَآءَ
came
وَعۡدُ
promise
ٱلۡأَخِرَةِ
the last
لِيَسُــۥٓــُٔواۡ
to sadden
وُجُوهَكُمۡ
your faces
وَلِيَدۡخُلُواۡ
and to enter
ٱلۡمَسۡجِدَ
the Masjid
كَمَا
just as
دَخَلُوهُ
they (had) entered it
أَوَّلَ
first
مَرَّةٍ
time
وَلِيُتَبِّرُواۡ
and to destroy
مَا
what
عَلَوۡاۡ
they had conquered
تَتۡبِيرًا
(with) destruction
٧
[And said], "If you do good, you do good for yourselves; and if you do evil, [you do it] to them [i.e., yourselves]." Then when the final [i.e., second] promise came, [We sent your enemies] to sadden your faces and to enter the masjid [i.e., the temple in Jerusalem], as they entered it the first time, and to destroy what they had taken over with [total] destruction.
17:8
عَسَىٰ
(It) may be
رَبُّكُمۡ
that your Lord
أَن
that your Lord
يَرۡحَمَكُمۡ‌ۚ
(may) have mercy upon you
وَإِنۡ
But if
عُدتُّمۡ
you return
عُدۡنَا‌ۘ
We will return
وَجَعَلۡنَا
And We have made
جَهَنَّمَ
Hell
لِلۡكَـٰفِرِينَ
for the disbelievers
حَصِيرًا
a prison-bed
٨
[Then Allāh said], "It is expected, [if you repent], that your Lord will have mercy upon you. But if you return [to sin], We will return [to punishment]. And We have made Hell, for the disbelievers, a prison-bed."
17:9
إِنَّ
Indeed
هَـٰذَا
this
ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ
the Quran
يَهۡدِى
guides
لِلَّتِى
to that
هِىَ
which
أَقۡوَمُ
(is) most straight
وَيُبَشِّرُ
and gives glad tidings
ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ
to the believers
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
يَعۡمَلُونَ
do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
the righteous deeds
أَنَّ
that
لَهُمۡ
for them
أَجۡرًا
(is) a reward
كَبِيرًا
great
٩
Indeed, this Qur’ān guides to that which is most suitable and gives good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a great reward
17:10
وَأَنَّ
And that
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
لَا
(do) not
يُؤۡمِنُونَ
believe
بِٱلۡأَخِرَةِ
in the Hereafter
أَعۡتَدۡنَا
We have prepared
لَهُمۡ
for them
عَذَابًا
a punishment
أَلِيمًا
painful
١٠
And that those who do not believe in the Hereafter - We have prepared for them a painful punishment.
17:11
وَيَدۡعُ
And prays
ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ
the man
بِٱلشَّرِّ
for evil
دُعَآءَهُۥ
(as) he prays
بِٱلۡخَيۡرِ‌ۖ
for the good
وَكَانَ
And is
ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ
the man
عَجُولاً
ever hasty
١١
And man supplicates for evil [when angry] as he supplicates for good, and man is ever hasty.1
17:12
وَجَعَلۡنَا
And We have made
ٱلَّيۡلَ
the night
وَٱلنَّهَارَ
and the day
ءَايَتَيۡنِ‌ۖ
(as) two signs
فَمَحَوۡنَآ
Then We erased
ءَايَةَ
(the) sign
ٱلَّيۡلِ
(of) the night
وَجَعَلۡنَآ
and We made
ءَايَةَ
(the) sign
ٱلنَّهَارِ
(of) the day
مُبۡصِرَةً
visible
لِّتَبۡتَغُواۡ
that you may seek
فَضۡلاً
bounty
مِّن
from
رَّبِّكُمۡ
your Lord
وَلِتَعۡلَمُواۡ
and that you may know
عَدَدَ
(the) number
ٱلسِّنِينَ
(of) the years
وَٱلۡحِسَابَ‌ۚ
and the account
وَكُلَّ
And every
شَىۡءٍ
thing
فَصَّلۡنَـٰهُ
We have explained it
تَفۡصِيلاً
(in) detail
١٢
And We have made the night and day two signs, and We erased the sign of the night and made the sign of the day visible1 that you may seek bounty from your Lord and may know the number of years and the account [of time]. And everything We have set out in detail.
17:13
وَكُلَّ
And (for) every
إِنسَـٰنٍ
man
أَلۡزَمۡنَـٰهُ
We have fastened to him
طَـٰٓئِرَهُۥ
his fate
فِى
in
عُنُقِهِۦ‌ۖ
his neck
وَنُخۡرِجُ
and We will bring forth
لَهُۥ
for him
يَوۡمَ
(on the) Day
ٱلۡقِيَـٰمَةِ
(of) the Resurrection
كِتَـٰبًا
a record
يَلۡقَـٰهُ
which he will find
مَنشُورًا
wide open
١٣
And [for] every person We have imposed his fate upon his neck,1 and We will produce for him on the Day of Resurrection a record which he will encounter spread open.
17:14
ٱقۡرَأۡ
Read
كِتَـٰبَكَ
your record
كَفَىٰ
Sufficient
بِنَفۡسِكَ
(is) yourself
ٱلۡيَوۡمَ
today
عَلَيۡكَ
against you
حَسِيبًا
(as) accountant
١٤
[It will be said], "Read your record. Sufficient is yourself against you this Day as accountant."
17:15
مَّنِ
Whoever
ٱهۡتَدَىٰ
(is) guided
فَإِنَّمَا
then only
يَهۡتَدِى
he is guided
لِنَفۡسِهِۦ‌ۖ
for his soul
وَمَن
And whoever
ضَلَّ
goes astray
فَإِنَّمَا
then only
يَضِلُّ
he goes astray
عَلَيۡهَا‌ۚ
against it
وَلَا
And not
تَزِرُ
will bear
وَازِرَةٌ
a bearer of burden
وِزۡرَ
burden
أُخۡرَىٰ‌ۗ
(of) another
وَمَا
And not
كُنَّا
We
مُعَذِّبِينَ
are to punish
حَتَّىٰ
until
نَبۡعَثَ
We have sent
رَسُولاً
a Messenger
١٥
Whoever is guided is only guided for [the benefit of] his soul. And whoever errs only errs against it. And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. And never would We punish until We sent a messenger.
17:16
وَإِذَآ
And when
أَرَدۡنَآ
We intend
أَن
that
نُّهۡلِكَ
We destroy
قَرۡيَةً
a town
أَمَرۡنَا
We order
مُتۡرَفِيهَا
its wealthy people
فَفَسَقُواۡ
but they defiantly disobey
فِيهَا
therein
فَحَقَّ
so (is) proved true
عَلَيۡهَا
against it
ٱلۡقَوۡلُ
the word
فَدَمَّرۡنَـٰهَا
and We destroy it
تَدۡمِيرًا
(with) destruction
١٦
And when We intend to destroy a city, We command its affluent1 but they defiantly disobey therein; so the word [i.e., deserved decree] comes into effect upon it, and We destroy it with [complete] destruction.
17:17
وَكَمۡ
And how many
أَهۡلَكۡنَا
We destroyed
مِنَ
from
ٱلۡقُرُونِ
the generations
مِنۢ
after
بَعۡدِ
after
نُوحٍ‌ۗ
Nuh
وَكَفَىٰ
And sufficient
بِرَبِّكَ
(is) your Lord
بِذُنُوبِ
concerning the sins
عِبَادِهِۦ
(of) His servants
خَبِيرَۢا
All-Aware
بَصِيرًا
All-Seer
١٧
And how many have We destroyed from the generations after Noah. And sufficient is your Lord, concerning the sins of His servants, as Aware and Seeing.
17:18
مَّن
Whoever
كَانَ
should
يُرِيدُ
desire
ٱلۡعَاجِلَةَ
the immediate
عَجَّلۡنَا
We hasten
لَهُۥ
for him
فِيهَا
in it
مَا
what
نَشَآءُ
We will
لِمَن
to whom
نُّرِيدُ
We intend
ثُمَّ
Then
جَعَلۡنَا
We have made
لَهُۥ
for him
جَهَنَّمَ
Hell
يَصۡلَـٰهَا
he will burn
مَذۡمُومًا
disgraced
مَّدۡحُورًا
rejected
١٨
Whoever should desire the immediate1 - We hasten for him from it what We will to whom We intend. Then We have made for him Hell, which he will [enter to] burn, censured and banished.
17:19
وَمَنۡ
And whoever
أَرَادَ
desires
ٱلۡأَخِرَةَ
the Hereafter
وَسَعَىٰ
and exerts
لَهَا
for it
سَعۡيَهَا
the effort
وَهُوَ
while he
مُؤۡمِنٌ
(is) a believer
فَأُوۡلَـٰٓئِكَ
then those
كَانَ
[are]
سَعۡيُهُم
their effort
مَّشۡكُورًا
(is) appreciated
١٩
But whoever desires the Hereafter and exerts the effort due to it while he is a believer - it is those whose effort is ever appreciated [by Allāh].
17:20
كُلاًّ
(To) each
نُّمِدُّ
We extend
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ
(to) these
وَهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ
and (to) these
مِنۡ
from
عَطَآءِ
(the) gift
رَبِّكَ‌ۚ
(of) your Lord
وَمَا
And not
كَانَ
is
عَطَآءُ
(the) gift
رَبِّكَ
(of) your Lord
مَحۡظُورًا
restricted
٢٠
To each [category] We extend - to these and to those - from the gift of your Lord. And never has the gift of your Lord been restricted.
17:21
ٱنظُرۡ
See
كَيۡفَ
how
فَضَّلۡنَا
We preferred
بَعۡضَهُمۡ
some of them
عَلَىٰ
over
بَعۡضٍ‌ۚ
others
وَلَلۡأَخِرَةُ
And surely the Hereafter
أَكۡبَرُ
(is) greater
دَرَجَـٰتٍ
(in) degrees
وَأَكۡبَرُ
and greater
تَفۡضِيلاً
(in) excellence
٢١
Look how We have favored [in provision] some of them over others. But the Hereafter is greater in degrees [of difference] and greater in distinction.
17:22
لَّا
(Do) not
تَجۡعَلۡ
make
مَعَ
with
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
إِلَـٰهًا
god
ءَاخَرَ
another
فَتَقۡعُدَ
lest you will sit
مَذۡمُومًا
disgraced
مَّخۡذُولاً
forsaken
٢٢
Do not make [as equal] with Allāh another deity and [thereby] become censured and forsaken.
17:23
۞وَقَضَىٰ
And has decreed
رَبُّكَ
your Lord
أَلَّا
that (do) not
تَعۡبُدُوٓاۡ
worship
إِلَّآ
except
إِيَّاهُ
Him Alone
وَبِٱلۡوٰلِدَيۡنِ
and to the parents
إِحۡسَـٰنًا‌ۚ
(be) good
إِمَّا
Whether
يَبۡلُغَنَّ
reach
عِندَكَ
with you
ٱلۡكِبَرَ
the old age
أَحَدُهُمَآ
one of them
أَوۡ
or
كِلَاهُمَا
both of them
فَلَا
then (do) not
تَقُل
say
لَّهُمَآ
to both of them
أُفٍّ
a word of disrespect
وَلَا
and (do) not
تَنۡهَرۡهُمَا
repel them
وَقُل
but speak
لَّهُمَا
to them
قَوۡلاً
a word
كَرِيمًا
noble
٢٣
And your Lord has decreed that you worship not except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff,"1 and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word.
17:24
وَٱخۡفِضۡ
And lower
لَهُمَا
to them
جَنَاحَ
(the) wing
ٱلذُّلِّ
(of) humility
مِنَ
(out) of
ٱلرَّحۡمَةِ
[the] mercy
وَقُل
and say
رَّبِّ
My Lord
ٱرۡحَمۡهُمَا
Have mercy on both of them
كَمَا
as
رَبَّيَانِى
they brought me up
صَغِيرًا
(when I was) small
٢٤
And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, "My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small."
17:25
رَّبُّكُمۡ
Your Lord
أَعۡلَمُ
(is) most knowing
بِمَا
of what
فِى
(is) in
نُفُوسِكُمۡ‌ۚ
yourselves
إِن
If
تَكُونُواۡ
you are
صَـٰلِحِينَ
righteous
فَإِنَّهُۥ
then indeed, He
كَانَ
is
لِلۡأَوّٰبِينَ
to those who often turn (to Him)
غَفُورًا
Most Forgiving
٢٥
Your Lord is most knowing of what is within yourselves. If you should be righteous [in intention] - then indeed He is ever, to the often returning [to Him], Forgiving.1
17:26
وَءَاتِ
And give
ذَا
the relatives
ٱلۡقُرۡبَىٰ
the relatives
حَقَّهُۥ
his right
وَٱلۡمِسۡكِينَ
and the needy
وَٱبۡنَ
and the wayfarer
ٱلسَّبِيلِ
and the wayfarer
وَلَا
and (do) not
تُبَذِّرۡ
spend
تَبۡذِيرًا
wastefully
٢٦
And give the relative his right, and [also] the poor and the traveler, and do not spend wastefully.1
17:27
إِنَّ
Indeed
ٱلۡمُبَذِّرِينَ
the spendthrifts
كَانُوٓاۡ
are
إِخۡوٰنَ
brothers
ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ‌ۖ
(of) the devils
وَكَانَ
And is
ٱلشَّيۡطَـٰنُ
the Shaitaan
لِرَبِّهِۦ
to his Lord
كَفُورًا
ungrateful
٢٧
Indeed, the wasteful are brothers of the devils, and ever has Satan been to his Lord ungrateful.
17:28
وَإِمَّا
And if
تُعۡرِضَنَّ
you turn away
عَنۡهُمُ
from them
ٱبۡتِغَآءَ
seeking
رَحۡمَةٍ
mercy
مِّن
from
رَّبِّكَ
your Lord
تَرۡجُوهَا
which you expect
فَقُل
then say
لَّهُمۡ
to them
قَوۡلاً
a word
مَّيۡسُورًا
gentle
٢٨
And if you [must] turn away from them [i.e., the needy] awaiting mercy from your Lord which you expect,1 then speak to them a gentle word.
17:29
وَلَا
And (do) not
تَجۡعَلۡ
make
يَدَكَ
your hand
مَغۡلُولَةً
chained
إِلَىٰ
to
عُنُقِكَ
your neck
وَلَا
and not
تَبۡسُطۡهَا
extend it
كُلَّ
(to its) utmost
ٱلۡبَسۡطِ
reach
فَتَقۡعُدَ
so that you sit
مَلُومًا
blameworthy
مَّحۡسُورًا
insolvent
٢٩
And do not make your hand [as] chained to your neck1 or extend it completely2 and [thereby] become blamed and insolvent.
17:30
إِنَّ
Indeed
رَبَّكَ
your Lord
يَبۡسُطُ
extends
ٱلرِّزۡقَ
the provision
لِمَن
for whom
يَشَآءُ
He wills
وَيَقۡدِرُ‌ۚ
and straitens
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed, He
كَانَ
is
بِعِبَادِهِۦ
of His slaves
خَبِيرَۢا
All-Aware
بَصِيرًا
All-Seer
٣٠
Indeed, your Lord extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]. Indeed He is ever, concerning His servants, Aware and Seeing.
17:31
وَلَا
And (do) not
تَقۡتُلُوٓاۡ
kill
أَوۡلَـٰدَكُمۡ
your children
خَشۡيَةَ
(for) fear
إِمۡلَـٰقٍ‌ۖ
(of) poverty
نَّحۡنُ
We
نَرۡزُقُهُمۡ
(We) provide for them
وَإِيَّاكُمۡ‌ۚ
and for you
إِنَّ
Indeed
قَتۡلَهُمۡ
their killing
كَانَ
is
خِطۡــًٔا
a sin
كَبِيرًا
great
٣١
And do not kill your children for fear of poverty. We provide for them and for you. Indeed, their killing is ever a great sin.
17:32
وَلَا
And (do) not
تَقۡرَبُواۡ
go near
ٱلزِّنَىٰٓ‌ۖ
adultery
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed, it
كَانَ
is
فَـٰحِشَةً
an immorality
وَسَآءَ
and (an) evil
سَبِيلاً
way
٣٢
And do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse.1 Indeed, it is ever an immorality and is evil as a way.
17:33
وَلَا
And (do) not
تَقۡتُلُواۡ
kill
ٱلنَّفۡسَ
the soul
ٱلَّتِى
which
حَرَّمَ
Allah has forbidden
ٱللَّهُ
Allah has forbidden
إِلَّا
except
بِٱلۡحَقِّ‌ۗ
by right
وَمَن
And whoever
قُتِلَ
(is) killed
مَظۡلُومًا
wrongfully
فَقَدۡ
verily
جَعَلۡنَا
We have made
لِوَلِيِّهِۦ
for his heir
سُلۡطَـٰنًا
an authority
فَلَا
but not
يُسۡرِف
he should exceed
فِّى
in
ٱلۡقَتۡلِ‌ۖ
the killing
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed, he
كَانَ
is
مَنصُورًا
helped
٣٣
And do not kill the soul [i.e., person] which Allāh has forbidden, except by right.1 And whoever is killed unjustly - We have given his heir authority,2 but let him not exceed limits in [the matter of] taking life. Indeed, he has been supported [by the law].
17:34
وَلَا
And (do) not
تَقۡرَبُواۡ
come near
مَالَ
(the) wealth
ٱلۡيَتِيمِ
(of) the orphan
إِلَّا
except
بِٱلَّتِى
with what
هِىَ
[it] is
أَحۡسَنُ
best
حَتَّىٰ
until
يَبۡلُغَ
he reaches
أَشُدَّهُۥ‌ۚ
his maturity
وَأَوۡفُواۡ
And fulfil
بِٱلۡعَهۡدِ‌ۖ
the covenant
إِنَّ
Indeed
ٱلۡعَهۡدَ
the covenant
كَانَ
will be
مَسۡــُٔولاً
questioned
٣٤
And do not approach the property of an orphan, except in the way that is best,1 until he reaches maturity. And fulfill [every] commitment. Indeed, the commitment is ever [that about which one will be] questioned.
17:35
وَأَوۡفُواۡ
And give full
ٱلۡكَيۡلَ
[the] measure
إِذَا
when
كِلۡتُمۡ
you measure
وَزِنُواۡ
and weigh
بِٱلۡقِسۡطَاسِ
with the balance
ٱلۡمُسۡتَقِيمِ‌ۚ
the straight
ذٰلِكَ
That
خَيۡرٌ
(is) good
وَأَحۡسَنُ
and best
تَأۡوِيلاً
(in) result
٣٥
And give full measure when you measure, and weigh with an even [i.e., honest] balance. That is the best [way] and best in result.
17:36
وَلَا
And (do) not
تَقۡفُ
pursue
مَا
what
لَيۡسَ
not
لَكَ
you have
بِهِۦ
of it
عِلۡمٌ‌ۚ
any knowledge
إِنَّ
Indeed
ٱلسَّمۡعَ
the hearing
وَٱلۡبَصَرَ
and the sight
وَٱلۡفُؤَادَ
and the heart
كُلُّ
all
أُوۡلَـٰٓئِكَ
those
كَانَ
will be
عَنۡهُ
[about it]
مَسۡــُٔولاً
questioned
٣٦
And do not pursue1 that of which you have no knowledge. Indeed, the hearing, the sight and the heart - about all those [one] will be questioned.
17:37
وَلَا
And (do) not
تَمۡشِ
walk
فِى
in
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
the earth
مَرَحًا‌ۖ
(with) insolence
إِنَّكَ
Indeed, you
لَن
will never
تَخۡرِقَ
tear
ٱلۡأَرۡضَ
the earth
وَلَن
and will never
تَبۡلُغَ
reach
ٱلۡجِبَالَ
the mountains
طُولاً
(in) height
٣٧
And do not walk upon the earth exultantly. Indeed, you will never tear the earth [apart], and you will never reach the mountains in height.1
17:38
كُلُّ
All
ذٰلِكَ
that
كَانَ
is
سَيِّئُهُۥ
[its] evil
عِندَ
near
رَبِّكَ
your Lord
مَكۡرُوهًا
hateful
٣٨
All that [i.e., the aforementioned] - its evil is ever, in the sight of your Lord, detested.
17:39
ذٰلِكَ
That
مِمَّآ
(is) from what
أَوۡحَىٰٓ
(was) revealed
إِلَيۡكَ
to you
رَبُّكَ
(from) your Lord
مِنَ
of
ٱلۡحِكۡمَةِ‌ۗ
the wisdom
وَلَا
And (do) not
تَجۡعَلۡ
make
مَعَ
with
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
إِلَـٰهًا
god
ءَاخَرَ
other
فَتُلۡقَىٰ
lest you should be thrown
فِى
in
جَهَنَّمَ
Hell
مَلُومًا
blameworthy
مَّدۡحُورًا
abandoned
٣٩
That is from what your Lord has revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], of wisdom. And, [O mankind], do not make [as equal] with Allāh another deity, lest you be thrown into Hell, blamed and banished.
17:40
أَفَأَصۡفَـٰكُمۡ
Then has your Lord chosen (for) you
رَبُّكُم
Then has your Lord chosen (for) you
بِٱلۡبَنِينَ
sons
وَٱتَّخَذَ
and He has taken
مِنَ
from
ٱلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ
the Angels
إِنَـٰثًا‌ۚ
daughters
إِنَّكُمۡ
Indeed, you
لَتَقُولُونَ
surely say
قَوۡلاً
a word
عَظِيمًا
grave
٤٠
Then, has your Lord chosen you for [having] sons and taken [i.e., adopted] from among the angels daughters? Indeed, you say a grave saying.
17:41
وَلَقَدۡ
And verily
صَرَّفۡنَا
We have explained
فِى
in
هَـٰذَا
this
ٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ
the Quran
لِيَذَّكَّرُواۡ
that they may take heed
وَمَا
but not
يَزِيدُهُمۡ
it increases them
إِلَّا
except
نُفُورًا
(in) aversion
٤١
And We have certainly diversified [the contents] in this Qur’ān that they [i.e., mankind] may be reminded, but it does not increase them [i.e., the disbelievers] except in aversion.
17:42
قُل
Say
لَّوۡ
If
كَانَ
(there) were
مَعَهُۥٓ
with Him
ءَالِهَةٌ
gods
كَمَا
as
يَقُولُونَ
they say
إِذًا
then
لَّٱبۡتَغَوۡاۡ
surely they (would) have sought
إِلَىٰ
to
ذِى
(the) Owner
ٱلۡعَرۡشِ
(of) the Throne
سَبِيلاً
a way
٤٢
Say, [O Muḥammad], "If there had been with Him [other] gods, as they say, then they [each] would have sought to the Owner of the Throne a way."1
17:43
سُبۡحَـٰنَهُۥ
Glorified is He
وَتَعَـٰلَىٰ
and Exalted is He
عَمَّا
above what
يَقُولُونَ
they say
عُلُوًّا
(by) height
كَبِيرًا
great
٤٣
Exalted is He and high above what they say by great sublimity.
17:44
تُسَبِّحُ
Glorify
لَهُ
[to] Him
ٱلسَّمَـٰوٰتُ
the seven heavens
ٱلسَّبۡعُ
the seven heavens
وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ
and the earth
وَمَن
and whatever
فِيهِنَّ‌ۚ
(is) in them
وَإِن
And (there is) not
مِّن
any
شَىۡءٍ
thing
إِلَّا
except
يُسَبِّحُ
glorifies
بِحَمۡدِهِۦ
His Praise
وَلَـٰكِن
but
لَّا
not
تَفۡقَهُونَ
you understand
تَسۡبِيحَهُمۡ‌ۗ
their glorification
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed, He
كَانَ
is
حَلِيمًا
Ever-Forbearing
غَفُورًا
Oft-Forgiving
٤٤
The seven heavens and the earth and whatever is in them exalt Him. And there is not a thing except that it exalts [Allāh] by His praise, but you do not understand their [way of] exalting. Indeed, He is ever Forbearing1 and Forgiving.
17:45
وَإِذَا
And when
قَرَأۡتَ
you recite
ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ
the Quran
جَعَلۡنَا
We place
بَيۡنَكَ
between you
وَبَيۡنَ
and between
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
لَا
(do) not
يُؤۡمِنُونَ
believe
بِٱلۡأَخِرَةِ
in the Hereafter
حِجَابًا
a barrier
مَّسۡتُورًا
hidden
٤٥
And when you recite the Qur’ān, We put between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter a concealed partition.1
17:46
وَجَعَلۡنَا
And We have placed
عَلَىٰ
over
قُلُوبِهِمۡ
their hearts
أَكِنَّةً
coverings
أَن
lest
يَفۡقَهُوهُ
they understand it
وَفِىٓ
and in
ءَاذَانِهِمۡ
their ears
وَقۡرًا‌ۚ
deafness
وَإِذَا
And when
ذَكَرۡتَ
you mention
رَبَّكَ
your Lord
فِى
in
ٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ
the Quran
وَحۡدَهُۥ
Alone
وَلَّوۡاۡ
they turn
عَلَىٰٓ
on
أَدۡبَـٰرِهِمۡ
their backs
نُفُورًا
(in) aversion
٤٦
And We have placed over their hearts coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness. And when you mention your Lord alone in the Qur’ān, they turn back in aversion.
17:47
نَّحۡنُ
We
أَعۡلَمُ
know best
بِمَا
[of] what
يَسۡتَمِعُونَ
they listen
بِهِۦٓ
to [it]
إِذۡ
when

Not
تَتَّبِعُونَ
you follow
إِلَّا
but
رَجُلاً
a man
مَّسۡحُورًا
bewitched
٤٧
We are most knowing of how they listen to it when they listen to you and [of] when they are in private conversation, when the wrongdoers say, "You follow not but a man affected by magic."
17:48
ٱنظُرۡ
See
كَيۡفَ
how

they put forth
لَكَ
for you
ٱلۡأَمۡثَالَ

but they have gone astray
فَلَا
so not
يَسۡتَطِيعُونَ
they can
سَبِيلاً

٤٨
Look how they strike for you comparisons;1 but they have strayed, so they cannot [find] a way.
17:49
وَقَالُوٓاۡ
And they say
أَءِذَا
Is it when
كُنَّا
we are
عِظَـٰمًا

And they say, "When we are bones and crumbled particles, will we [truly] be resurrected as a new creation?"

يَوۡمَ
(On) the Day

On the Day He will call you and you will respond with praise of Him and think that you had not remained [in the world] except for a little."

ٱلَّتِى

ٱلشَّيۡطَـٰنَ

Indeed
ٱلشَّيۡطَـٰنَ
the Shaitaan

And tell My servants to say that which is best. Indeed, Satan induces [dissension] among them. Indeed Satan is ever, to mankind, a clear enemy.
17:54
رَّبُّكُمۡ
Your Lord

He will punish you
وَمَآ
And not
أَرۡسَلۡنَـٰكَ
We have sent you
عَلَيۡهِمۡ
over them
وَكِيلاً
(as) a guardian
٥٤
Your Lord is most knowing of you. If He wills, He will have mercy upon you; or if He wills, He will punish you. And We have not sent you, [O Muḥammad], over them as a manager.
17:55
وَرَبُّكَ
And your Lord
أَعۡلَمُ
(is) most knowing
بِمَن
of whoever

ٱلسَّمَـٰوٰتِ
the heavens

فَضَّلۡنَا
We have preferred
بَعۡضَ
some
ٱلنَّبِيِّــۧنَ

بَعۡضٍ‌ۖ
others
وَءَاتَيۡنَا
And We gave

زَبُورًا
Zaboor
٥٥
And your Lord is most knowing of whoever is in the heavens and the earth. And We have made some of the prophets exceed others [in various ways], and to David We gave the book [of Psalms].

Say, "Invoke those you have claimed [as gods] besides Him, for they do not possess the [ability for] removal of adversity from you or [for its] transfer [to someone else]."
17:57
أُوۡلَـٰٓئِكَ
Those

Indeed
عَذَابَ

٥٧
Those whom they invoke1 seek means of access to their Lord, [striving as to] which of them would be nearest, and they hope for His mercy and fear His punishment. Indeed, the punishment of your Lord is ever feared.
17:58
وَإِن

And there is no city but that We will destroy it1 before the Day of Resurrection or punish it with a severe punishment. That has ever been in the Register2 inscribed.
17:59
وَمَا
And not
مَنَعَنَآ
stopped Us
أَن
that

We send
بِٱلۡأَيَـٰتِ
the Signs

٥٩
And nothing has prevented Us from sending signs [i.e., miracles] except that the former peoples denied them. And We gave Thamūd the she-camel as a visible sign, but they wronged her. And We send not the signs except as a warning.
17:60
وَإِذۡ
And when

the accursed

ٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ‌ۚ
the Quran
وَنُخَوِّفُهُمۡ
And We threaten them

but not
يَزِيدُهُمۡ
it increases them
إِلَّا
except
طُغۡيَـٰنًا
(in) transgression
كَبِيرًا
great
٦٠
And [remember, O Muḥammad], when We told you, "Indeed, your Lord has encompassed the people."1 And We did not make the sight which We showed you2 except as a trial for the people, as was the accursed tree [mentioned] in the Qur’ān. And We threaten [i.e., warn] them, but it increases them not except in great transgression.
17:61
وَإِذۡ
And when
قُلۡنَا
We said
لِلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ
to the Angels
ٱسۡجُدُواۡ
Prostrate

to Adam
فَسَجَدُوٓاۡ
So they prostrated
إِلَّآ

إِبۡلِيسَ
Iblis
قَالَ
He said
ءَأَسۡجُدُ
Shall I prostrate

خَلَقۡتَ
You created
طِينًا

٦١
And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except for Iblees.1 He said, "Should I prostrate to one You created from clay?"
17:62
قَالَ
He said
أَرَءَيۡتَكَ
Do You see
هَـٰذَا
this
ٱلَّذِى
whom

ٱلۡقِيَـٰمَةِ
(of) the Resurrection
لَأَحۡتَنِكَنَّ
I will surely destroy
ذُرِّيَّتَهُۥٓ
his offspring
إِلَّا
except
قَلِيلاً
a few
٦٢
[Iblees] said, "Do You see this one whom You have honored above me? If You delay me [i.e., my death] until the Day of Resurrection, I will surely destroy1 his descendants, except for a few."
17:63
قَالَ
He said
ٱذۡهَبۡ

جَزَآءً
a recompense
مَّوۡفُورًا
ample
٦٣
[Allāh] said, "Go, for whoever of them follows you, indeed Hell will be the recompense of [all of] you - an ample recompense.
17:64
وَٱسۡتَفۡزِزۡ

وَشَارِكۡهُمۡ
and be a partner
فِى
in
ٱلۡأَمۡوٰلِ
the wealth

وَمَا
And not
يَعِدُهُمُ
promises them
ٱلشَّيۡطَـٰنُ
the Shaitaan
إِلَّا
except
غُرُورًا
delusion
٦٤
And incite [to senselessness] whoever you can among them with your voice and assault them with your horses and foot soldiers and become a partner in their wealth and their children and promise them." But Satan does not promise them except delusion.
17:65

Indeed, over My [believing] servants there is for you no authority. And sufficient is your Lord as Disposer of affairs.1
17:66
رَّبُّكُمُ
Your Lord
ٱلَّذِى

It is your Lord who drives the ship for you through the sea that you may seek of His bounty. Indeed, He is ever, to you, Merciful.
17:67

And when adversity touches you at sea, lost are [all] those you invoke except for Him. But when He delivers you to the land, you turn away [from Him]. And ever is man ungrateful.
